  1. Lol! Which city do you like better?
  2. I'm the same exact way! 9 hours is ideal for me. Another student blatantly asked me, "Wow, how do you get anything done?" Well, actually, having a good night's sleep makes me way more productive than all those people getting 3 hours and guzzling coffee. And when they tell me about their habit I'm just like... "neat."
  3. I never thought that I would get multiple acceptances, so I was unprepared for this special kind of stress. It is tough. There are so many factors to consider!
  4. As far as the research match, it's pretty much perfect. But the location is a total deal-breaker, not only for my SO, but for me as well. There are two other programs I applied to where I believe that research match is just as good. One was supposed to set up in interview with me, and still hasn't... the other seems to still be deciding! And my first acceptance from January is a pretty good research match and in a lovely location. Ah, what fun this all is.
  5. Thanks very much! I'm sorry about your predicament I'm not married, but I probably will be before my program is over, so I had to consider him in making choices about where to apply. I cannot believe I found 9 locations that my SO approved of. Plus, the 1 that he didn't - where my post was about.
  6. I think that you should discuss this with your spouse and take the time you need, and follow fuzzy's advice about the work you might be doing. I found this thread in a search, because I am in a similar situation, but kind of the opposite. If I may elaborate: for me, the potential projects look really great, but the location is my least favorite. My POI did ask me how I felt about the location in my interview, and I said it liked it. I guess after thinking about it longer, I realize I'm not comfortable with the mega distance from home, crime rate, cost of living, etc. If this was my only offer, I'm pretty sure I'd take it. But it's not... so I will probably decline. Can anyone help me think of a graceful way to do this? Should I give my reasoning? I want to do it soon so that my POI can have the chance to pick someone else (faculty take turns; if I respond soon enough she won't lose her one chance to take a student this year).
  7. Are you kidding me?! That's one of the worst ones in here. By the way, there are a LOT of posts here. So evil.
  8. Wooo! They're my absolute favorite. I've met Chris Conley several times over the years and he is so cool. All you gotta do is wait by the tour bus after the show. Stalkerish? Maybe, but it works Edit: I forgot in my original post, that I had the chance to meet with Suzanne Corkin, the professor who studied patient H.M. (psych nerds, you know!!!)
  9. Seriously so hilarious!
  10. Jerry Remy, the Red Sox announcer. He is so short, that when I went to give him a high-five, I accidentally smacked him in the head somehow. I've met members of many of my favorite bands, but they're not famous enough, I don't think (unless anyone here likes Saves the Day, Motion City Soundtrack, Valencia, or Say Anything!) My hometown Walmart was once graced by the presence of Beyonce. I don't know why she came to my weird, small, random town, but she did! I wasn't there, though...
  11. My job now basically pays me a graduate stipend so I'll chime in! I have the Bank of America Travel Rewards card - earning 1.5% every time I use the card with no restrictions whatsoever. When I charge a hotel or a plane ticket to the card I can redeem my points. For shorter trips by bus or train I always search on Wanderu to get the best price. For airfare, I use Momondo and Google Flights for maximum flexibility which ultimately gives you the best price. I follow Airfare Watchdog on Twitter for tons of flight deals. They also do email lists! Couldn't recommend them more. My last plane ticket was purchased from STA travel (which is a student-only travel site similar to Student Universe). This flight (to Europe) was so freaking cheap, and I bought an international student discount card off them which is widely accepted for little discounts here and there.
  12. Hm... If you get push notifications on any mobile device / tablet you may own, the checking will be out of your hands!
  13. I received a voicemail during a doctor's appointment. The message was from my POI and she said she had news for me. Funny, I had just told my doctor that I hadn't heard anything yet! So I listened to the voicemail several times before calling back when I got home. Accepted! No less than a second after hanging up the phone I was running laps around my house/screaming. I eventually slowed down to walking laps while I called my mom, boyfriend, etc. lol PS: I totally lurked this thread last year and lived vicariously through everyone's celebrations. So relieved that my chance came, too!!
  14. Thanks, yeah, it's tough. Luckily that hasn't happened to me yet. I used to be hyperaware of taking care of my own life/health first by keeping my stress levels low. I feel guilty leaving for grad school. One parent with bad health, one sibling with bad mental health, and one parent dealing with all of it alone when I leave.
  15. Yeah, I don't expect them to go any faster just because I email them. But it has been 13 weeks and I've been holding on to an actual offer for 5 weeks. So at this point I guess it doesn't seem so bad to email them. It might not be good news, but I am curious about where they're at in the process either way.
  16. Yeah, that's what it was - I updated in the above post after receiving notice this week.
  17. My family's health and mental health situations are so stressful and messed up. I don't know how I'm going to get through another degree dealing with this stuff and being this stressed and worried all the time.
  18. I think I'll wait until at least the first week in March. If the calendar says March it seems less impatient lol
  19. You might want to have this thread moved to Psychology for a response. I don't know much about i/o programs, sorry!
  20. I want to email to ask, but I don't want to annoy them...
  21. When was this? My heart just broke (not to be dramatic or anything). I've wanted to go there for years.
  22. You were right! I was waitlisted but it just took a long time for them to tell me.
  23. I just checked - they said they make decisions by April 1. That's much later than I had hoped. I know that the program I'm accepted to can't force me to decide before April 15, but I was also told they appreciate knowing before then, and I don't blame them.
  24. I was rejected yesterday, and did not interview. I pretty much saw it coming after seeing posts for the interviews way back in December/January.
  25. I'm surprised at how distracting the waiting game has been, in terms of getting my current coursework done. Way more distracting than putting together my materials and applying. I'm pretty disappointed in how I've been doing this semester, but also senioritis tells me not to care anymore.
