  8. It's nearly impossible to study at my house. What is it about being mom? Children bring every care they have to mom and completely ignore dad. No matter how busy mom is. #supermom has left the building

I've dealt with this for over a decade. Set boundaries. Set specific times that you will study, go somewhere and close the door, and when they come knocking, tell them that when the door is closed, Mom is doing her work and they are to go see Dad. Then kiss foreheads and shut the door in their face. Spend a few minutes breathing deeply to get over Mom-Panic induced by shutting the door in the child's face and putting Mom-needs ahead of kids. Do not waiver from the boundaries you set (...

Thanks @danieleWrites I think I know what my Christmas gift will be to myself. A desk in my room.

  9. Decided not to have a night out with the girls. Instead I'm at home catching up on my reading and finishing my paper that's due on Monday. The scarifices of grad school just got real. #burningthemidnightoil

Yes! I am realizing that it is critical to finish all readings/homework by Friday because there will inevitably be something else that spills over into the weekend!!

  14. I can so relate. This is my first semester in grad school after a 13 year hiatus. I am still looking for a better way to read all the required reading and take notes on it. Sounds like the class you took was helpful. I may need to do some research on those concepts and try to incorporate them.
  15. Sounds like you have a lot going on but that you handling it all well. At times my own realization that I am in grad school seems surreal. Creating a schedule has been very helpful for me to manage the endless reading and preparing for the barrage of papers that I have to write. Beginning 9/22 I have a 2-10 paper due every week until the end of the semester 12/8. How I am remaining calm I don't know.
  16. First paper is due Monday 9/22 I am almost finished with it. Feeling pretty good about it. I think once I receive a grade then I can focus on the areas that need improvement. The biggest adjustment for me is getting used to APA format. Thanking my lucky stars for the APA Manual, Zotero, and YouTube.
  17. Three weeks in and I'm adjusting to the workload and all the changes after a 13 year hiatus. Grateful that I decided to pursue my masters and I think I'm going to make it.

It's only been 3 years for me, so I can't imagine! Good for you! I'm finding it challenging getting back into things, too, but I think I'll make it as well....

^^^Thanks I'm working on the paper today in hopes that I can take it to the professor tomorrow and get some pointers.

  21. Sorry ecm07e, that is how I'm feelng about my first theory review. Its not time to turn in but I have no idea how the paper should look according to APA style. We aren't using any sources except our text and I'm lost if we should do a title page etc. I'm waiting to hear back from my professor now for clarification. Good luck hopefully its not as bad as you think.

  23. I've collected ten peer review journal articles and I'm ordering two or three books for my first paper. I've decided to set aside a portion of my study time each day to the paper. Hopefully, I can get a good start and send it to my professor so she can let me know I'm on the right path or how I need to revise. I am uncomfortable writing long papers because my training as a journalist has taught me how to remove the fluff. Now I have to retrain myself to add the fluff back in. Oh boy....
  24. Good for you getting involved in an organization and going to a conference. I have decided to attend ACA conference 2015 to get a jump start on making connections etc. Wishing you the best, it sounds like you're off to a good start.
