If you're trying to decide between 13" and 15", I'd definitely go with the 13. I have an older Macbook Pro 15" and it's a pain in the rear dragging it to and from campus. Admittedly the new models are lighter, but a 13" Pro or Air is lighter still, and it really, really makes a difference. I'm in a social science program and I still need my laptop on campus almost every day.

I will not let that be the reason I give up, failing is a part of success every successful person had to overcome some type of obstacle and I will do just that

@FeministCorgi- the processor for the Air is significantly slower than the Pro. Even though they are both listed at Intel i5. I don't know what software you use, but if you use SPSS, I would say go with the Pro. I ran into the same conondrum myself and after reviewing the info seems the Pro is the way to go.

I totally feel your pain on this one, Read_books!

I need to give notice on my apartment very soon, have been accepted to four programs, and I could be very happy at any of them, but I'm paralyzed by the lack of info on financial aid.

Almost wish I had a bookie who could give me the "odds" on which one is most likely to pull through

the only thing you'd lose out on is the deposit to whichever school you don't end up going to (if it has one). I accepted one school and paid the deposit, but now I've been accepted to another. so I may just forfeit the deposit, and go with the other school. they can't really fault you. you won't be penalized. you don't owe them an explanation if you withdraw your name, either. you have the right to do what's best for you.

That does make sense. If you want to be closer to downtown than WSU, I would suggest looking at places in Oakwood or Kettering. Oakwood can be pretty pricey because it's a really nice neighborhood. That being said, the cost of living in Dayton is crazy low so you might find it affordable. There are some new apartments and lofts downtown that I've heard are nice - some are right on the river, near the Dragons stadium (minor league baseball, and it's actually very popular! Always sold out). Either way you'll need to have a car.

I think since your former supervisor wrote you a recommendation letter then I'd tell her if she asks about it. I would also mention you haven't told your current supervisor yet so if she could not share that information you would appreciate it. I think she will understand why you need some discretion.

I think giving the 4 week notice, telling your supervisor in person when the time comes, and writing a nice resignation letter thanking them for the opportunity will be all you need to do to leave on good terms.

Also, if your current supervisor asks why you didn't let her know as soon as you accepted an offer for grad school, then I would just say something like you wanted to make sure everything was going to fall in place like financial aid and until you were positive you would be attending you didn't want to say anything. It's a reasonable way to explain the gap in notification, but I think it's unlikely she will ask.

When I moved out here I had no idea what to expect. I had never visited and my experience with the south was a few visits to Arkansas. I was worried it would be a lot like Arkansas and super southern. By southern I mean, super conservative, religious, racist, and lots of strip malls with little to no character around the town.

I have been pleasantly surprised since the day I got here. Not only does Knoxville have lots of character, but people are a lot more liberal than I would've ever expected. Now I come from Oregon originally and have lived up and down the west coast and I came here after 4 years in Las Vegas. So I tend to be very liberal, and outdoorsy. That being said, I have felt very welcome and at home in Knoxville. I feel like people are health conscious, outdoorsy, fairly liberal, and dare I say even a tad bit "crunchy". If it were not for the occasional southern accent, I would not even remember I was in the south. When you get here you'll eventually see bumper stickers that read "keep Knoxville scruffy" and it really is a scruffy little town. It's hard to explain why it is referred to a scruffy town, but you'll understand when you see it.  It has sort of a mix of industrial, southern, Appalachian, mountain, feel to it. I also love the weather here, but that's a whole 'nother story.

The summer nights are fantastic too. The night is warm and a little muggy, but there are fire flies everywhere and you can hear the cicada's in the trees. I don't know about you, but we don't have Fire Flies out west, so I had never seen them! I arrived here in mid-july and I was a little in shock coming from Las Vegas. When I left Las Vegas it was 120 degrees, bone dry, and I was used to seeing nothing but sand and desert rocks. I get here and its extremely green, pouring rain, in the mid 80's and I felt like I was in cambodia, haha!

Anyway, I don't think you'll have a problem forming relationships with the professors. Most of my professors prefer to be on a first name basis with their students and really treat you as more of a colleague. I've never had a problem with accessibility either, they're for the most part very accommodating.

I think UT is a pretty major party school, but that is really an undergraduate thing. I don't know any graduate students that are into partying. Most graduate students simply don't have time to party even if they wanted to.

    Hope this helps!

Today while doing the morning check of applications I realized one of the portals looked different. Instead of "application pending" there were different links talking about fincial aid, and money and scheduling classes. I flipped out, as this was my first choice school, I anxiously waited for the site to finish loading.

Then site loaded back to the default "application pending." I had already pulled out my phone to call my Dad with news of my acceptance

For another school I keep recieving emails and getting oh-so-excited at seeing the University's name in my email. The first line "The faculty and staff welcome....... your interest in our x program at the University x" Sent me in a tailspin, only to realize the email is generic and sent to everyone about the school's program, also welcoming ME to the program and welcoming my interest are two very different things. Also, the last line of "and we hope you will choose to study here" is just a kick in the gut because it's like uh I applied- YOU decide if I study there or not at this point.

COME ON SCHOOLS - GET IT TOGETHER PLEASE

    There's also:
    Metropolitan State University of Denver
Social Work Department, Campus Box 70 P.O. Box 173362
    Denver CO 80217
    Program Level: Masters

I think the program looks really awesome. Just a heads up, all the schools in CO are competive. Denver also offers a few different programs for the MSW like the four corners program, which I think is geared for CO locals.

Here is a directory of all CSWE accredited programs: http://cswe.org/default.aspx?id=17491
