  1. @av2010 cool - nice to know there are more of us out there!
  2. Amidst all our waiting angst, It occurs to me that I haven't seen many people here who've applied to interpersonal or social interaction and culture tracks? Or, maybe all us social interaction people are the ironically, the most elusive
  3. Up side
  4. Rejected by Iowa. On Valentine's Day nonetheless. Oh well. Moving on!
  5. @DBear You've obviously earned whatever success you've had this season! And it actually gives me hope - simply because you are an untraditional comm applicant - at least with age, like me, and coming in from another field. Because myself, and many others are too, and schools may be paying attention to those of us who may not fit the mold. And, as far as UMass, I contacted a POI before applying and we had a discussion about research interests etc. Didn't think to ask about interviews. I'll let you know as soon as I hear something though.
  6. @DBear Wow! Congrats - that's awesome. Just a few more to go. I bet you can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.
  7. @The Shade King - for sure! Come on March....please. Thanks @ejpril88 Or, maybe you'll choose Purdue and I'll get in, and we'll be there together. Anything' possible at this point in the game.
  8. It really is! One of my favorite presentations I've heard in a long while from a professor I work with and he gave this awesome lecture to students about essentially, being kind to all your colleagues because you never know who you may be working with, or alongside next. He literally demonstrated it by doing a "6 degrees of separation" style map of the people he worked with in the past, and then how he's now working with at least 3 of those people at our current university. Anyway, long story short - it's good to foster a positive atmosphere among our future colleagues.
  9. Thanks @DBear! I feel like we are all eachother's cheerleaders here - it's great.
  10. Finally some news! Waitlist for Purdue. At least not a rejection.Yay! Glass half full...
  11. @DBear right? It does feel "different" as you said. When job hunting, sure you have those dream spots...but you usually can just go on and keep applying to others and if it doesn't work out, sure it stings but there's always others, or there will be. With this process it's apply. Full stop. And wait. At least we are all in this together! Virtually at least.
  12. Interesting that it's not just Comm that's experiencing an irregular app cycle. Another week brings fresh possibility. Hang in there fellow gradcafers
  13. @heyDW and @DBear so glad I have the great people on this board to commiserate with. Unless you are going through this process yourself it's hard for others around you to truly understand. In my situation I keep telling myself I'm really fortunate - if I get accepted, great, if I don't - it's really okay. I've got a good job, money, etc. and I'll try again next year. But it is interesting how much of yourself gets wrapped up in this process. @The Shade King thanks! I've only applied to 4 schools but contacted a PIO from every one. And, had a great conversation/exchange with two schools about research, fit etc., and they seemed very interested. This whole process has really hit home how many variables are involved with getting into a program. And, my research topic is actually kind of emerging, not particularly traditional which I imagine might possibly be throwing ad comms off a bit. Your story about the infighting between faculty and the late admission date gives me a little hope - that maybe there are other things going on on the back end that I'm not aware of. My (wonderful, patient) partner keeps telling me it's out of my hands at the moment. Which is of course very true but at the same time - does not lessen the anxiety of the season.
  14. Thanks @ejpril88 that's why I'm so perplexed. I just wish I knew something...instead I feel like I've sent apps into this black hole or something.
  15. Okay guys - I'm not really prone to negative thinking - but why the silence from schools? I'm starting to think I'm not even worth a rejection or a waitlist notification. I emailed Purdue on Friday just so I could at least get a formal rejection from them. And Iowa...nothing and Ohio, nothing. I was preparing myself this cycle for rejections - didn't count on absolute silence.
  16. @heyDW Interpersonal track, and no interview. Was hoping to at least receive a rejection so I would know. Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
  17. Has anyone heard from Iowa? I seriously feel like I'm in some weird grad school purgatory. Neither accepted or denied. #maddening.
  18. @ejpril88 CA is my home state, so if you need any tips about Davis area if you decide to go of course, I'd be glad to help - just PM me.
  19. I have to say it's interesting to see the diversity of backgrounds from everyone applying to comm programs. But comm seems to pull from so many other disciplines it's not too surprising. Good luck to everyone with interviews this week - I'm curious to those who've had interviews how long they typically are? I've done phone interviews for jobs which are about 45 min to an hour. These interviews couldn't be that long are they?
  20. @heyDW seriously that kind of made me feel better knowing some schools do the rounds of acceptances. I kind of figured that but it's nice to hear it. Gives me hope since I have no acceptances or rejections at the moment! And wishing your husband good luck on his interview with Iowa.
  21. Continue with my current job, stack up some more savings before the next app season.
  22. Yes please! I thought for sure that U of I interview was for one of you guys.
  23. @DBear totally! Fingers crossed. @The Shade King Your research sounds very interesting. Good luck with the rest of your apps. Screw the waiting and page refreshing and obsessing today...I'm going out tonight!
