I planned on spending exactly six days waxing rhapsodic about the grand, profound decision I was making and that everyone was hanging on. I figured that would maximize the romance and drama. I was crushed on day four to have my process interrupted with the surprising reminder that it wasn't all about me.

I really don't know where you're getting all this from but grad school as soap opera is actually kind of a fun literary style!

I cannot think of a single reason why posting an acceptance you're happy about on your FB would be an issue. At all. Please explain. FB is the ultimate tool of narcissism in which you are the star of your own reality show. Why are you even friends with people who wouldn't be glad to share in your happiness and accomplishment?

"yyyeaaaahhh, I'm still going to need you to go ahead and move out this summer. I have friends moving in. yyeaahh" Imagine that being said in Gary Cole's voice from Office Space. Damn TPS reports.

I have a 2-day interview tomorrow. I'm freaking out! I'm doing what I know helps me "chill out" (reading about the school, going to the gym, breathing, etc.). Any tips for the actual interview?

How far have I taken the insanity?
    (1) Today: it is Saturday and I am staying home so I can keep an eye on my email account.
    (2) The other day, after walking home from work, I really had to pee, but decided to check my email account while squirming. Almost wet myself all for nothing but a coupon from Snapfish.com.
    (3) I regularly re-read the two acceptance letters I have received so far just to make sure I was not imagining my acceptances the first twenty times I read them.
    (4) I dreamt that I was accepted into Yale, but when I went to thank the adcoms personally, I was in Turkey and topless.
    (5) I took the GREs in November... but I am still studying for it... without any intentions of retaking them. Seriously. What is wrong with me?

    Your turn.

The answer is no. Ace of Swords and The Tower. They are grave cards.

Tarot Deck answers that you want to get positive answer from Boulder and will make some actions in order to follow your will, probably, next week. But after a month no positive answer should come.

Anyway, our future changes and if you really want, just do what you could do. But first, think about what you are currently waiting from your studying in Penn State? Would you be satisfied or not:) That is the our answer.

    Hi guys!

Woah, just wanted to share with you that I just realized that (surprisingly) I'm getting a bit excited! Haha, ok this might sound strange but it was sometime during November when I decided to apply :-) At first I wasn't too serious about so I just Googled a bit and saw that people apply to about 6-8 schools on average so I applied to 6 in the first place and later on to two others as well. However, I just realized that I'm actually a bit excited now to know what they are thinking about my application.
Either they will love or hate my SoP because it was only one alinea :-) Also, I'm not some genius either, but I'm just curious what they think about me, I wish I could be there when they read my application.

Anyway I'm having lots of fun her and can't wait until the rejection letters start pouring in

I just wanted to share this with you!

Damn this is making me want a pet even more. I am currently furry-friendless and I miss it! I made the mistake last night of watching the national dog show. NOT good...

This is Gershwin. Sadly, he's no longer with us, but his memory still makes me smile!

    Aww I love this thread!

This is Buddha, aka the Chaquito Puppito, Buddha-Pest, Povre Bete, and/or Comrade Budka. We have no idea what the hell kind of mix he is, but I think he's pretty adorable.

And because he's pretty cute when he sleeps....

He gets all irked when I'm on the computer too long and attacks me.

Also, provide some information about your application, i.e. the name of the university. Keep in mind, that we need not exactly the event from your biography, but an emotional contact with you during the prediction process.

The answer is 2 of Swords. Swords symbolize knowledge, also there are changes to the better. So, I suppose, the answer is yes, congratulations. Waiting a respond from you. Write to us when you have result from the university.

Me and my friend (under Isabell nickname), who is a practicing magician, are currently exploring different approaches to get the application result, without having to wait for official correspondence. The Tarot deck seems to provide a slight advantage over other methods. However, to learn whether this advantage is statistically significant, we need more data collected from different subjects
So, If you would like to know whether miracle will happen and you'll finally get into your dream college - post your request here (one university per subject) Seven additional subjects are invited right now, so please be quick
Prediction is better when there is some kind of emotional contact, so please send us a private message describing (in a few sentences) the one emotionally rich event from your biography.
Results on your request will be obtained and posted in this topic in evening by US time (or kept private if you wish)
Please do not forget to inform us after you get an official decision, if our predictions were helpful!

I just wanted to say I LOVE YOU ALL for your ability to commiserate. The fact that I'm not the only crazy/obsessed grad school applicant is SUCH a relief, as none of my peers are going through the process.

    Thanks, and happy Valentine's Day!

Buuut...without English (in English-speaking countries), you wouldn't be able to read the textbooks and instructions on assignments for the disciplines you work in, to fill out the applications and to write the SOP that gets you into the programs you want to get into, to read the publications that lead you to your ideas for your groundbreaking research, to write the papers about your research that are published to let other people know about your important work, to avoid plagiarism that could end your career, or to write the acceptance speech for your Nobel prize. Let's face it - you can look down your nose at the English folks, but in the end, we're the ones on whose shoulders pretty much everybody else stands.

I'm OK with the fact that as English folks we are (generally) paid less, respected less, and more often than not dismissed as being the step-children of academia...but it would be nice to get some acknowledgement for our fundamental importance in getting everyone else where s/he wants to go.

We're kind of the Cinderellas of academia...without us, nothing gets done around the castle, but in the end, we don't get to go to the ball.

Reading the result board posts (specifically for English) has officially become serial lobotomy. Does anyone think the next six years of any person's life should be reduced to an apostrophe? Is pernicious (not to mention banal) wit an appropriate response to the time, psychic energy, and financial expense required of the application process? It's troubling that PhD applicants can find no better use of their intellect than to impugn themselves, their prospective institutions, future careers, and presumed depth of understanding with so much bland brain matter. Sadly, no amount of good grammar can season it to taste.

This is a stressful time. Please remember, the eyes of more futures than your own look over those posts with alternating hope and pause. Own acceptance, rejection, and the creamy anxiety in between with a little class.
