I am beginning to go through the same. I lived an hour away from home during undergrad and would go home for dinner, weekends, etc., and I just moved 13 hours away two months ago for graduate school. No matter how hard I try to make friends, it just turns out that I'm not a very social person. I'm sorry that I can't offer any advice and that all I can do is offer sympathy, but I'm in the same boat

Working at the school I'm entering in the fall, which in hindsight was a great idea. Highly recommend for any future grad students reading this.

Well if that's not normal then I'm screwed too

I mean, when I'm at my own home where I can take it out, rinse it, then put it in, sure! But when I'm at school/work, go into stall to take it out, pull up pants, go outside stall with nasty thing full of blood to put it in sink and rinse it, go back in stall, pull down pants, put in? Sounds like a nasty process (and I doubt anyone else really wants to see my cup full of... stuff).

A shot in the ankle? That does sound really painful. Does it go into the bone or something? (note: I know nothing about medicine but I'm not sure if shots that go into the bone are a thing). Can we talk about how EXPENSIVE medication is?? Those of you outside the US can keep your pieholes shut (I'm kidding) but why do I have to pay $40/month just so I can breathe with all the pollen/cats (okay, that's my fault) around? Allergy shots aren't cheap either! I guess it falls under the same reason why feminine hygiene products are so pricey... because people will buy them... but UGH.

I'm with you all on the friends... I had just started to make friends at my undergrad after 4 years there, and then I left. Also @Effloresce that's scary! I have deadly peanut allergies (can't even be nearby) for the same reason as your roommate - the throat swells up and you can't breathe. But 5 epipens... has she seen an allergist? And why wasn't she admitted to the ICU? That sounds like it almost killed her...

I have never been in your situation so I won't give any advice, but I will ask questions and state facts. Q1: Do you have a partner who is willing to help out, or are you able to make accommodations for a nanny? Q2: Imagine your typical day. Do you have the time and energy both at the beginning and the end of the day for a child? Q3: Take the amount of sleep that you get now and divide it by two. Is this sufficient? F1: If you look at this forum, there are quite a few people asking if it is possible to do a PhD while raising a child. Or to do a PhD while working full time. To the best of my knowledge (and I've only been browsing this forum for 6 months), no one has posted about wanting to do all three. Unfortunately, sometimes in life we can't have everything at the time that we want it. Life happens. I wish you the best.
