  1. Mine is LinkedIn. Person XYZ has made some new connections. Person ABC would like to make a new connection with you. And some more from Change.org. FML.
  2. @RCtheSS I think at moments like these, even the emails stating "I am 23/f and I found your profile in Facebook.", although extremely annoying, ought to put a smile on my face. Haha. I am looking for every alternative to keep my cool, I guess.
  3. Exactly! I am getting emails for Webinars from universities that I didn't apply to. My gmail account is in turmoil.
  4. Thankfully, just before applying I decided to remove and unsubscribe all sites that were linked to my Gmail account. That little exclamation button came in handy and now most junk mails end up in spam. Nonetheless, I am checking out the spam folder in the hope that the grad school mails won't end up in spam.
  5. Lol. I am glad that I still use an outdated Samsung smartphone. It doesn't even have Android and no 3G support, which means I am safe from the notorious email notifications to some extent. But then again, one has to come to the computer and face the inevitable.
  6. So, I have been refreshing my Gmail page for quite some time now, waiting for any news from the schools that I applied to. Every time I came and refreshed the page on my laptop, I had new emails, which I have been praying for to be from the grad schools. Alas! The cruel card has been played and the only email I get is "You have won XXXXX". Oh, how badly I wish I could rip off the morons sending me junk emails at such anxious moments. Anyone having similar thoughts?
  7. Wrote emails to each school's graduate coordinator. Got the usual response of "Your application is under review by the department and hopefully a decision will be made by April 15 or until support is available".
  8. Once again, I am in the same boat as you - anxious to the point that I started bombarding the grad school coordinators with emails. They did respond with the usual email stating "Your application is under review by the department and hopefully a decision will be made by April 15, or until support is available." Until then, gotta live with the anxiety, I guess. Anyways, do professors go for an interview after email correspondences are made? I mean since I and the professor are basically in sync regarding the research interests, which she acknowledged of, do you think I should be expecting for an interview? Because, so far the professor hasn't mentioned anything about the interview. Plus the follow up email is not bearing any responses from her.
  9. I agree with you on this. I have come to the same conclusion that it is possible for the professor to get involved with the admissions process, as well as hundreds of other things. I guess it would be right to assume that no response does not mean our applications have been rejected. We just got to have some faith and go on with the waiting process. It would probably fair well if we do a follow up email to the professors, I guess.
  10. @bunception That's great! And thanks, I will deliver him the good news. Northwestern is his dream school. So he will be thrilled to learn about it.
  11. Doing the same at the moment. I am following the survey results and predicting the result declaration dates. For Oregon state, I found that PhD and Masters acceptance are usually declared starting March and continues till the end of the March. I was contacted by the professor on Feb 16, 2016 and we corresponded till Feb 20, 2016. I sent a follow up email by Feb 22, 2016 requesting some more information on her lab, but I have not received any email so far. She did say that she feels that I am interested in her research group and would contact me as soon as she can. Haven't heard anything from her since.
  12. I have applied at University of Houston. Haven't heard back from them yet.
  13. @magnetite It happened to me as well. The professor contacted me via email and asked me about my research interests. Once we finished discussing about my research interests, she said that once she finishes her evaluation, she will contact me asap. I sent a follow up question regarding her lab, but she has not sent any kind of response since.
  14. Contacted by someone who was not in my list of advisers from one university. Haven't heard anything from the other universities. Some of them are claiming to let the admission decisions be declared by March end. Applied to 7 Universities so far.
  15. @aulacrimosa My brother has applied for MS in Sports Journalism. NYU and Boston University has contacted him with positive responses. The Director of Graduate Admissions from BU has spoken about an unofficial invite to the program. Nonetheless, he is waiting for a positive response from NorthWestern. I am applying for PhD in Computer Science and currently riding the same anxiety boat.
  16. Joining the Anxious community. Having a rough week as well. Mostly due to the no responses. Immediately bombarded the graduate coordinators with mails and they hassled to send me some short replies regarding the status of my application. No other responses so far.
  17. @runnernado77 I am having the same dilemma as yours. Apparently the professor said that she will be getting back to me as soon as she can. Since then no correspondence. Hoping dearly that she didn't change her mind.
  18. @RCtheSS You are right. A giant casino in the world of academics. And the worst part is waiting for the ball to stop rolling.
  19. Applied to UCLA, Tufts, Oregon State, Colorado State, University of Houston, University of Tennessee - Knoxville for PhD and University of Ottawa for MS in Computer Science. Non-POI listed professor contacted me from Oregon State so far. No response from the others.
  20. Hello, I have applied for PhD in Oregon State University and on Feb 16th I was contacted by a professor who was not in my list of POI. The professor said that she is looking for a graduate student in her lab and if I am interested, I need to let her know of my research interests. I responded with my research interests on machine learning and cancer research and she immediately responded by asking for my CV/Resume and inquiring if I am interested in graph theory. When I agreed with her on that, she talked about her own current research work and said that since her project goals and my intended research goals were in sync, although our work had different approaches, she would like my help with the project, esp. with graph theory. She said that I also needed to "teach" her students on machine learning and she thinks that I am interested in joining her group. I am very much interested in working with her in her research group and I have responded accordingly by letting her know that I am interested in working with her research group. Upon this, she said that she is currently evaluating other applications and will get back to me as soon as I can. What should I expect of this? Is it a good sign? I am still unaware if our email correspondence was an informal interview or was it the actual interview. Can someone enlighten me on this?
