  1. I'm going to GWU and need help with housing... does anyone know if it's worth commuting? I worry about the state of public transportation. I live in South Korea and I keep forgetting that not all countries have a good transport system
  2. Thanks so much! I was actually learning towards GWU as an acquaintance of mine also recommended it over Stony Brook.
  3. does anyone know anything about MA programs at either George Washington or Stony Brook? Got accepted, not sure what to do. I'm an international applicant, btw. Would appreciate your insight
  4. Just got rejected from Upenn. About time! I saw it coming but they couldn't be slower meh... it was a long shot.
  5. I suggest talking it out. Really depends on what you and your partner want. I'm in the same boat, but more long distance. We'll be in different countries, time zones etc. but planning on making it work. Fingers crossed!
  6. So far, I've had every single school contact me via e-mail so the only advice I can give is waiting for the postal service or contacting the department for more info.
  7. Today I received an acceptance letter from Stony Brook (SUNY). I'm now in a position of choosing for the first time ever. Both are English MA programs. Both ranked 60-something but may differ since depending on what site you look at. But of course, the tuition costs are different. Which would you recommend for an international student who wants to study American Literature with a big emphasis on queer studies and feminist perspectives? (I know that's not a whole lot to go on but anyway) 1. George Washington University Got a letter early Feb. Got personal e-mails from two different professors. Very kind and enthusiastic. Offered a fellowship of 15,000 USD. According to their website, GWU has some strengths when it comes to queer/crip theory. The major drawback, of course, would be the tuition and living expenses in the DC area which are so massive that 15,000 USD doesn't cover much. 2. Stony Brook (SUNY) Got a letter today. Generic e-mail congratulating me. Admissions packet coming later on. No financial support. However, the tuition is cheaper compared to GWU. There is a certificate program for women's studies and several of the faculty members do focus on gender studies in English literature. Some of my undergrad profs got their PhDs here (not sure if that's relevant). I really don't know much about MA programs in the US so I would like to get some advice from people who know better. Thanks
  8. Mine have come in from anywhere between 1 am and 6 am due to time zones... So mine will never come in the afternoon unless someone decides to send me an email at 4am for whatever reason. But thank you anyways I actually checked this morning and got an acceptance! That only leaves 4 more. (let the cycle repeat)
  9. I wake up every morning thinking that there will be an email in my inbox... but no. Waiting stinks. I can't believe I've waited months on end for what will probably be a rejection letter.
  10. I'm an international student and was accepted to GWU English MA. They gave me a fellowship for 15k USD but the Cost of Attendance is over 50k so... but since this probably is the only school that is going to accept me (I've been rejected from 5 programs thus far with no emails from other schools), I'm pretty sure I'll be attending.
  11. The wait used to be so unbearable in the beginning when I had two rejections under my belt with plenty of lag time in between. But now that I've been accepted to at least one program, it's kind of a dull pain, like a headache you kind of get used to until it starts pounding again. I have five schools left to hear from, and I have half a mind to just a call it quits now and tell the one university that accepted me to count me in!
