I was browsing what universities haven't had their deadlines yet in order to see if there was anywhere else I was interested in. (Really just to reduce my anxiety). The school is only 18 years old and is starting an MS for SLP program this upcoming year. They already offer a clinical doctorate. What do you all think of it? The school sounds good on paper but it's a brand new program!

SLP Interviews! What are they like?
maurmaur replied to SLPosteriorCricoarytenoid's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I don't know if there is a true list, but if you google your school + gradcafe, people say when they receive updates. Here: http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=northeastern&t=a&o=p&p=50 There won't be many posts from this year, but you can sort it by date and you can view last year's. People write if they were accepted/declined or when they were invited for an interview. -

I don't know if you can private message people, but you are welcome to message me! I grew up in Phoenix, and went to college in Tucson! Do you like the heat? I now live in Indiana since my mom lives here while I work, go to school (prereqs), and apply to graduate school. Moving away made me miss AZ, but I don't want to end up there if that makes sense. I'm not a big fan of the heat, but Tucson is on avg cooler than Phoenix (usually). UofA is wonderful, I loved it there. Tucson is definitely different than Phx. Everything in Phx seems new since the suburb I'm from is only about 20 years old in the first place. But its eccentric in a good way.- 200 replies

I accepted my interview maybe 5 minutes after initially receiving the email on Feb. 6th. I then asked if I could Skype in as opposed to show up where they had already scheduled me since I am across the country. I haven't heard a response yet. When is it appropriate to send another email asking?- 200 replies

I could handle being asked about all of these questions such as handling clients and then about myself. It's the part in which they ask about actual speech coursework that makes me nervous (anatomy, physiology, etc.)
-
Okay, that makes a bit more sense. Any tips on how to figure out if your school does this? I don't want to freak out for nothing.

Written assignments during the interviews? What? I didn't think any schools actually did anything relating back to actual coursework.

Last year, I did an interview where they pulled questions out of a cup. I remember 2-ish of them. 1. What would you do if you had a client (who is a kid) and their mom is onboard with therapy plans but their father isn't? 2. Tell us about a time you dealt with diversity and how it went. (it was something like that, you know, dealing with different types/groups of people)

I received an email to interview with Pacific University today. However, they told me what day it was and where to show up. I live over halfway across the country and so I emailed them back thanking them and asking if I could skype.- 200 replies

Hello! This year I am taking pre-reqs for the master's program and I am also applying right now to master's programs. I've heard that other people have asked my current professors (in the classes that started yesterday) for letters of rec and were successful in doing so. However, I want to ask people who are my current professors. Should I wait until after the final when I have received my grade or right before the final which gives a little more time for the deadlines? I know to attach a resume and statement of purpose and all that, but I need advice on when to ask for a letter of rec from a current prof?

Bit of a pickle (WSU and pre reqs) Help Needed!!!
maurmaur replied to maurmaur's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Oh I would happily take that deal. I asked if I did take a leveling year, would I have to go through the process again? and she said yes. Okay, so ignoring the number of classes (I'm currently working on acquiring syllabi so I don't have to take all of those), where would be the best place to get these done or even if I had to take them through a couple of schools? I applied as a non degree seeking at USU, this sounds good! I also applied as non degree seeking at Northern Arizona University, and the University of Alaska Anchorage. Does anyone know of a school that has a Clinical Methods course? -
Bit of a pickle (WSU and pre reqs) Help Needed!!!
maurmaur replied to maurmaur's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
So far, this evening, I have applied to a few universities (one of them being USU) as a non-degree seeking student that offer some to most of the courses I need. I have an Introduction to Communications Disorders class (from last semester) which may or may not work as one of the classes, at least it could count as a pre-req towards the leveling courses this summer to get me into some of those. My goal is to present the woman from WSU I talked to with a plan later this week for the summer and seeing what she says. The problem is making that plan. If I have to admit defeat at some point and take a leveling year, I will. I would just rather not. -
Hello! I've found myself in an interesting situation. I was unsure of Washington State University's situation of allowing non-CSD majors into their program. I was accepted this morning off of their alternate list. Turns out the admissions people didn't read my transcript as thoroughly as normal and let me in assuming I had completed all of the pre-reqs. I have not. I've been emailing and on the phone with one of the heads of the program. Essentially, while she recommends taking a leveling year, I am considering taking these courses over the summer. I understand, and she insisted, that this is a lot of work. However, apart from helping out with siblings, I have a free summer. I'm hoping to do the research and discover how to do this! I'm doing the research obviously, but does anyone have any advice? Been in a similar situation or know of someone who took the leveling courses quickly? Also of any schools from which I could take the classes online
