Official Interview Thread 2017
maurmaur replied to joyannna's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Are you going in person or Skyping in? And yeah, general stuff. I don't really know what you mean by clinical stuff. Like what specifically? I had 2 people who were extremely nice and easy to talk to but I'm pretty sure they have different interviewers.- 200 replies

Just finished my Skype interview with Pacific University! I think it went well!- 200 replies

Yeah, I put a word doc with my questions next to the Skype window for the same reason
-
I forgot about this but yeah with the lag and nerves I feel like it's a little bit harder to know when to speak for some reason so just be aware of that. It's not difficult just something to be aware of
-
Still dress professionally. I have one tomorrow with Pacific. I know some schools have you call them but I'm guessing they are calling me since I don't know what Skype name they are calling from. Make sure you are sitting in a well-lit area with a plain background. It can be a wall, that's okay. It just shouldn't be distracting. Treat it like any formal interview really. Be courteous, look at the camera not always the screen so it's like you are maintaining eye contact. If you want to take notes, do it with pencil and paper so you aren't typing.

I know most decisions aren't out yet but the gradcafe survey page tells me some people have said they've received their admittance on Northeastern's portal. Based on research, they release decisions in waves. does anyone know where in portals decisions are if they are? Would it be obvious or not?

Acceptances, Waitlists, Rejections 2017

For those of us who applied to Northeastern, according to the survey page, someone's portal had their acceptance today. I logged into my portal and cannot find anything. I assume the decision would be obvious so I'm assuming I don't have any news yet. -
Pacific University 2/24 Interview
maurmaur replied to Akon's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Can any of you post here just your thoughts about the campus and stuff since I am unable to attend? And this may sound weird but do we have access to microwaves? -
How did you pick the one you left out?
-
Did you guys submit FAFSA's to every school you applied?

Pacific University 2/24 Interview
maurmaur replied to Akon's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
How far are you? I wish I could make the trip but am almost all the way on the other side of the country so it's just not financially viable -
Haha, you're good and thanks for the info. I kind of assumed, just having grown up in AZ with friends in Utah, there is a stereotype so I figured there would be a decently sized population.
-
Just applied! How do you hear about stuff like this? I'm in the app process and trying to save money so another part time job is something I've been passively looking for.
-
I should throw this out but the university I went to for undergrad had their leveling students take the pre-reqs with undergraduates but they were still leveling students. There isn't a distinct class for the others. I'm sure it's possible, but there might be a lot of leveling students together in an undergraduate class. And yeah, I know an audiologist who said as long as the school is accredited, the name doesn't matter (she said this holds true for SLP as well). I know this is late, I figured I'd add my two cents. EDIT: Just realized I wrote something here that other people said and that you are applying to my school so yeah University of Arizona does have leveling students in the undergrad classes. They all sat together so it was clear they were still a close group. If you have any questions about UofA/Arizona/Tucson, let me know!

Yeah I'm skyping with Pacific University because I live across the country and several hundred dollars for a plane ticket and then hotel fees on top it is just not something I can do, but I really wish I was going out there.- 200 replies

Should I contact the director?

Thanks to both of you! You made me feel better about putting myself out there can't say there was any negative to me doing this! -
Should I contact the director?
maurmaur replied to maurmaur's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Yeah, I doubt it is going to do anything, but I got to thank her for her advice she gave a year ago so hopefully I at least made her day a little bit better. And thanks, I honestly think I just prepped incredibly hard for the interview and then I ended up with questions I didn't have a hard time with whatsoever simply due to luck. I also always try to come up with the best questions possible for interviews so I can impress them with what I am asking if that is even possible. -

Okay, I emailed her, she seems happy to have received an email from me so thanks for the enthusiastic yes! That definitely made me want to do it for sure. -

Thanks! I just don't know what to say. She never like told me to tell her I was applying again or anything but I feel like it's helpful -
This is what I feel I should do. It's medical based and that's what I want

Last year when I applied I was only applying to 3 year programs because I hadn't been a speech major. I applied to a certain school not realizing they didn't do 3 year programs (my mistake). I ended up being waitlisted and then accepted. After emailing and talking on the phone with the director of the program (who I had interviewed with and she said I had interviewed beautifully), she insisted it wouldn't be possible to finish the rest of prereqs, she insisted I wait and apply the next year. im applying to that school again this year, should I email the director to let her know I really want to go to this school so I am again or just apply and not contact her?
