Did you get her email? It wasn't in the follow-up email and I wanted to thank her. -

Just had my interview with RMUofHP, think it went well! I actually think the program sounds great despite it being its first year! -

Pacific University 2/24 Interview
maurmaur replied to Akon's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Based on this year and previous years, there is a tier one waitlist and then everyone else. I don't think anyone knows where exactly they are on the waitlist and i don't think they would tell us if we asked -

No but when Diana confirmed my waitlist acceptance, she said she would call when they had a spot for me. -
I need some advice regarding ABA.
maurmaur replied to slarsen2's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I recommend working as an ABA therapist first and deciding if you want to go further in it or reapply for SLP. At my clinic, we have ABA, SLPs, OTs, and a PT. We work with kids who have ASD. Some of them have more diagnoses. For instance, I work with a kid who has several other diagnoses some of which have caused blindness. Some of the kids have language disorders. Some script, some have echolalia. Several use AAC devices like LAMP, PECS, Words for Life on devices. We have one SLP who came to work at our clinic because when she entered the job market, she was unable to get behaviors under control and couldn't get therapy done. She is now pursuing her Master's online. A lot of people do the master's online while simultaneously working as a program manager to get their supervision hours. Message me if you have more questions. -

To go further off of that: I am an RBT which is a Registered Behavior Technician in my state. I did in person training at my job as an ABA therapist (I'm still an ABA therapist just with more qualifications) and 40 hours of training videos. Then I saw for the RBT exam. I need so many hours a month of supervised time by a BCBA to maintain my certificate. -

Okay so here it goes: You can just become an ABA therapist. I got hired with just my BS in a sort of related field and they also liked me because I have ambitions of going on further through school. To become a BCBA you need to have a Master's with the approved coursework. This means certain classes. There are ABA master's degrees or psych master's with ABA tracks. Then you need your supervision hours. This is like 1500 hours (with weird rules). Then you can sit for your boards. If you pass the test, you get your BCBA. -
Congratulations! Maybe they just aren't there yet? If you accepted this weekend, people probably aren't working much and maybe it'll happen this week? Either way, I wouldn't complain about not having to pay! I'd feel lucky until they sent me that.

Haha, thanks I appreciate all of the support possible. My mom laughed at me. We live in Indiana and most likely, she'll be the one to help pack up the car and help me drive to wherever I go. She was like you had to pick a school the furthest away from us?!? I'm from AZ and we already did that move, so might as well make it even longer! -

I'm pretty sure that was the only week of interviews overall. -

It would be the emails on the applications, they don't email the portal. If it was on the portal, they would email you to check the portal. But based on previous years, they just email you. -

WSU starts telling people Friday, they sent out an email saying that. RMUofHP's application is due the 1st so I doubt it'll be this week at the very least. -

Professor advised me to attend another program
maurmaur replied to NorCalSLPA's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
My advice, when you get your acceptance officially, approach her or email her to say you want to talk about the pros and cons of each program to sort out what she thinks as an inside might think of your ideas of pros and cons. Honestly, outside of this specific aspect of your situation, it might just be a good idea in general. -
Professor advised me to attend another program
maurmaur replied to NorCalSLPA's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
This is honestly what I think. I was friends with a couple of professors in college and one was a newly minted PhD, she informed me of all the drama. If you love the program, go. But take her advice to heart -
Professor advised me to attend another program
maurmaur replied to NorCalSLPA's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I've had professors do something similar in the past. You mentioned that your department is rather political. It's possible she thinks the quality of the program is lower due to that. Or she knows something the students don't and is recommending them attend elsewhere as a hint nudge situation. (Schools can be shady sometimes, yes, they are great institutions, but still) I don't mean to be the crazy theorist. This is just what came to mind when I read it. While the lack of reasons why may make it feel inappropriate, it's actually pretty common for professors to recommend their opinion especially regarding your future. While it is very hard to do so, I generally assume professors opinions are ground on some facts at least, ideally. -

Yeah I saw that on WWU's website a bit ago and will only start getting nervous when I see other people posting on the survey page -

They're personalized. -
Yeah if you professors in mind, you can casually ask now. It's the polite thing to do. You are probably best case scenario though. professors can/will do it even they're only due at the end of the same semester
