  2. I chose the University of Connecticut! After scheduling a visit to the campus last summer the school immediately became my number one choice. I love that they allow you to do clinical placements and involve you in the clinical setting right away. I also took an online speech class through the university last summer and met with another professor during my first both of who were awesome! I told myself that if I was lucky enough to receive an offer from this school I was immediately going to accept and that's what I did. At the time I had 3 other acceptances (ECU, Southern CT, URI), but the decision was not difficult for me.
  3. I Interviewed at Sacred Heart last week so I haven't heard back yet. I've gone to this school multiple times and each time I try to have an open mind, but there's just something about it I don't like. The staff seems very research based so if you're heavily interested in research it may be a better fit. Fairfield is a small town, its very nice/wealthy. I know a lot people who have gone to SHU and ended up not liking how small of a school it was. Personally I know it's not the school for me and am so relieved I've already been accepted elsewhere. I also am not a fan of there being no on campus clinic. Every time I've gone to visit campus I've spoken to the only girl ever there from the program who does say she loves it. I'm sure it's a great fit for some people, but these are just my thoughts. Best of luck!
  4. I did not prepare at all for my interview and I am glad I didn't. The questions were nothing that I really needed to prepare for. EX. what special talent do you have that will make you a good SLP? The questions were pretty basic. I did not want to go in with preconceived answers and end up getting too caught up in these and panicking if I couldn't remember what I was "supposed" to say.

  6. I did not submit my recommendations through Hobsons either. However, in my portal it says complete next to the recommendation section.
  7. I would be concerned that yours says incomplete. Mine has been completed since December 2. As far as hearing back I thought we would have by no too. I am impatiently waiting...
  8. I actually don't have any information about the program. Since it's still relatively new I don't know anyone who has interviewed here yet. I read on here that last year the group was spilt into two and they worked on a case study. I'm not sure if that's what they mean by problem based learning activity or if we'll be doing something different. I also read that a one-on-one interview took place with two different people and that it was pretty relaxed and the interviewers were very nice. Other than that I really have no idea what to expect.

  10. I have finished writing my Statement of Purpose and have been working on the revisions. However, none of the programs I am applying to have very specific guidelines. I am wondering how I am supposed to format this essay. What do I need to include in a header, is it supposed to be double spaced, etc.? Any information about this would be very helpful!
  11. I've currently been trying to fill in the CSDCAS transcript entry part on my own and it's proving a bit more difficult than I thought. I am unsure of what subject to put many classes under. For example, I had to take an introductory college course and am unsure what subject this would be put under. I also took 2 community service courses along with a volunteer project I was doing in the community. I am unsure what these community service courses would fall under also. At this point I am feeling it might just be worth it pay the $65 and have them input the courses for me to save myself the headache. However, I was wondering if anyone here would be able to help me out first. Thank you!
  12. Hello, I am a current undergrad at URI applying to grad school for Fall 2017. URI specifically looks at your GPA and GRE scores. They put very little emphasis on other aspects in way of helping you, they really only serve to hurt you. Therefore, your GPA and GRE scores need to be very high to be competitive. While I am applying to URI, I will not be surprised if I do not get in. I have a 3.75 cumulative GPA, a 155 V, 149 Q, and a 5.5 writing. URI also does not emphasize the writing component of the GRE from what I've heard. If you really want to go to URI I believe you will need a higher GRE score. On average URI accepts students who have above a 3.7 GPA and Q and V scores both around 155. I truly wish you the best of luck, but don't want to give you false hope.
  13. I have spent a lot of time in an elementary school observing the speech pathologist and working with the children in this setting. Would this be an appropriate person to ask for a letter in reference to my interpersonal abilities?
  14. The problem i encounter is because I am completing my undergrad in three years I have not had as much time to make connections with all of my professors. I have two CMD professors who I have had multiple classes with who are both writing letters. In this case the teacher was my third option recommended by my advisor because I received an A in the course. I know my writing professor rather well, but my advisor told me that the number of letters they say they want should be from within the major and then you can do an extra outside professor. I believe this is going to be my approach.
  15. After speaking with my advisor I was instructed to reach out to professors within my major whose courses I had received an A in and ask them for letters of recommendation. After doing so, one of my professors responded and said she did not feel she should write me a letter because even though I received a 97/100 in her course, the course did not allow me to demonstrate my writing or verbal expression skills. I have two other CMD professors who are going to be writing me letters or recommendation, I am wondering if instead of having the aforementioned professor write a letter I should reach out to a writing professor with who I also earned an A. My professor told me graduate schools care more about your writing abilities than what was learned in her class. Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated!
  16. Hello, I am currently working on my applications and have become overwhelmed very quickly. I have 4 schools on my list that I am going to be applying 3 in Connecticut and one in Rhode Island. I am not very familiar with other programs, but would like to have a few other options for schools to apply to. If anyone could recommend schools in NY, MA, or NJ that they feel have great programs I would greatly appreciate it. My stats are GPA: 3.75 V: 155 Q: 149 AW: 5.5 if that helps with school recommendations! Also, for transcripts do I send them to each school through my current school or is there somewhere I need to upload a transcript onto the CSDCAS? I understand I need to enter my courses into the application, but that is not an official transcript. So my question is do I fill in this information and then separately send a transcript to the school? Thank you!
  17. I have tried asking my schools about superscoring however, I'm not getting a very clear answer. The schools tell me to send all GRE attempts to be reviewed. The first time I took the GRE I scored V: 155 Q: 145 AW: 4.5; the second time I took it I scored V:153 Q: 149 AW: 5.5. I am a bit concerned about sending both scores because my Verbal score did go down. As a whole my second attempt scores are better. Looking for advice on whether to just send second attempt or to send both?

This is interesting because my advisor (I currently attend the University of Rhode Island) has directed me and many other students to the idea that GPA and GRE scores count significantly more than any other aspect of the application. He has actually discouraged people from getting internships and jobs because he says it is more important to focus on having a high GPA.
  19. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought research experience was more important if trying to go for Ph.D.? The schools I am planning to apply to say they look for observation hours which I do have. Any insight on this?
  20. When reading through the previous threads I read that first and second time applicants are viewed the same. My question is does the fact that I will have completed my undergrad in Communicative Disorders in 3 years help my application in anyway? I currently have a 3.75 cumulative GPA and while my GRE scores currently aren't great they are average. I am however, taking the GRE again in two weeks.
  21. Getting ready to apply to schools for Fall 2017 after completing undergrad in 3 years! I'm pretty nervous about my GRE scores, but hoping that I will be okay as I seem to fall in the middle of the average scores in Quantitate and Verbal and higher end for AW for the schools I want to go to. I'm applying in the Northeast, not sure about all schools yet. Definitely applying to University of Connecticut, Southern Connecticut State University, Sacred Heart University, and University of Rhode Island (where I will complete my undergrad).
