not so sure
sivakumaranandan replied to sca1een's topic in Statement of Purpose, Personal History, Diversity
Unless it is personal statement, i will strongly advise you to include anecdotal references from research experience, also generic and auxillary motivations for research in the field does not take you anywhere with research admits. Please include reference to the faculty and project of interest in their research group. -
Please give more details on your profile like GPA in previous studies, research accomplishments. GRE score is a general criteria, but it never shadows your academic strengths! BTW 310 IS NOT low, it's in average range of scores.
-
You get to submit scores of all sections in a GRE attempt. You cannot choose/mismatch section scores across tests, it defeats the purpose.
-
Schedule the GRE atleast 3weeks prior to the earliest deadline for that application season. 2weeks for gre scores 1week buffer time for safety.

Should I purposefully miss some questions?
sivakumaranandan replied to BilboSwaggins's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
Score the best possible in both tests of a section. Missing some questions to increase the overall correct responses does not increase you score proportionally. GRE scores have a upper bound on score based on difficulty level of questions you attempted. -
SOP Review help
sivakumaranandan replied to jxtee's topic in Statement of Purpose, Personal History, Diversity
You can mention the faculty/research group of your interest and also their project that interests you in particular. -
@Stereopticons , Thanks for sharing your understanding. Looked like the candidate was not certain about the profs acquaintance with topics of interest. I meant to assert that relevant professors would be appropriate and adding value to the aspirations.

Applications - Should I send more? Help!
sivakumaranandan replied to speechfan222's topic in Waiting it Out
Please apply to handful of universities that you will really attend on admit. Applying to too many universities does help in anyway, other than serving as plan B. -
Just but the words that establishes your interest and credibility in the past working experiences. The rest will fall in place. Also get strong recommendations from relevant professors.

Sop
sivakumaranandan replied to friendly friend's topic in Statement of Purpose, Personal History, Diversity
SOP has to be precise description in few paragraphs, about your background motivation for research (limit it to research experiences in the past and its learning, not to mention childhood ambitions/other auxiliary reasons) areas of interest and Professors your are keen to work with in that university experience in the industry(if any). possibly add details about you plan after the graduate course at that university. Steps for SOP: draft your sop request peers to review the SOP Dos: refer only to SOP structure from online. take someones help for that. Donts: please never try to indulge in plagiarism, it defeats the purpose. You need to find a way to express yourself, SOP is one best opportunity. never read an example SOP, it spoils the originality. ask someone to read few sop and outline the template like the above i have suggested. Please draft the SOP, i can review (if you would like me to).LOR (you need not worry , its recommenders challenge. please choose them wisely )Universities look at the LOR as establishment of your credibility, basically LORs from your previous college is very important and impressive only if you are new grad or a few years out of college. With some the industry you can get one from peers.Attributes: establish instances where your guide recognized your motivation and contributions, methodology and approach in problem solving, clear evidence as a strong individual and research candidate. Work experience related course: 2 LOR from you industry peers 1 LOR from professor whom you worked very closely with. No prioir work experience related to the course: 3 LOR from professors whom you worked very closely with. -

Please remind your professor again. Be watchful and remind them 3days before, and again on the deadline day,if needed. They might be very busy and often forget. Choose recommenders who can strongly establish your credibility on time for the next applications!
