  1. What do they base the rankings off of? Research, of course, but what else? Is there any way to find out what a ranking or percentage of their MA students that go on to get into top 20 PhD programs, or what percentage of their PhD graduates go on to gain tenure track positions?
  2. I did, but I haven't received the funding info yet.
  3. I contacted Ole Miss to get a rough estimation of when to expect an answer, and they told me that I am #5 in a 12 person wait list. I could not be more excited. I know it's risky to my emotions, but with all of the people I see waiting to reject their many offers until closer to the deadline, I'm taking this as an acceptance. Eeee! ... In other news, was anyone accepted for their English MA program that doesn't plan to attend?
  4. My reach school rejected me today. I'm trying to tell myself not to be upset, that it was always a long-shot, but it hurts. I'm visiting UA this weekend, a school that has been wonderful to me from the start, and I'm waiting to hear back from Villanova about funding and Ole Miss about acceptance/rejection. The world goes on. Maybe one day I'll see you for a PhD, Syracuse.
  5. It seems like everyone has received all of their responses, whether positive or negative, and have moved on to the final school decisions/planning for a gap year. I was feeling okay when no one had posted any results on here about the MA programs that I'm still waiting to hear from (Syracuse, Ole Miss, Purdue), but now that someone has posted about getting accepted into SU's MA program, my heart is broken. I want to contact them, just to get an answer, but I don't know if that's a good idea. Can it hurt anything this late in the game? If I contact them, what should I say? Extra info: I got into Alabama U, with a great fully funded offer, and Villanova accepted me, but still hasn't contacted me about funding (another joy to obsess over). Do I mention this in the email, if I send one? Is it abnormal to wait this long to send answers? Should I just assume I'm rejected? Not even wait-listed T_T
  6. So it's my birthday, and I woke up to an email from Purdue.. "Happy Birthday from the Purdue Graduate School, Apply Now" with contact info. I know it was sent because I signed up for info way back in the beginning, but it was just so harsh, man. No one has posted results from the MA programs that I am waiting on, negative or positive, but the hope is killing me and harshing my birthday vibe.
  7. I only applied to five schools, and only for MA, but three of them haven't sent me any response, and it's driving me crazy. I got into two programs, and I am eternally grateful. but Villanova said they'd contact me about funding in March (ambiguous much?), and the not knowing is killing me. Seriously, Syracuse University, Ole Miss, and Purdue, where you at?
  8. - Go to your Account Settings (upper left-hand corner / shows up when you click the arrow near your name) - Go to Signature (5th tab on the left) Whatever you set it as will show up on everything you post. There are font and color options, as well as an upload file option for pictures. Hope that helps!
  9. I posted it in another thread, but I have to post it on this one to make it feel official. Second grad school acceptance: Villanova University!! I don't get info on funding until March, and funding makes the world go around, but I am so proud of myself for getting this far. I have options, and there are still 3 grad schools to go. Be still my heart.
  10. I just got my acceptance email! Brb dying.
  11. Hey y'all, So I'm trying not to obsess over the fact that two people already received acceptances to Villanova's MA program, even though the application deadline isn’t even until March 1st. I applied for the Graduate Assistantship – CASA when I applied for the English program, because the deadline for the GA -CASA is March 6th. I just have a couple of questions. 1) Why put the application deadline so late and, apparently, accept people before that? What does that mean? 2) Why make the funding opportunities have applications the same time as the program applications? Wouldn’t that just mean more work, i.e. examining funding applications for students that don’t even end up accepted to the school? 3) The major reason for my breaking down and asking these questions on GC: I just received an email from Villanova stating that all of my materials were sent in correctly for the CASA application, and that “We will be contacting you soon for an interview.” WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
  12. I got accepted to Alabama's MA program, fully funded with stipend, but the email and letter did not mention a recruitment weekend. Are they only for PhD students? Or am I misunderstanding something?
  13. I just created one (credit to your idea). Only time will tell if people actually use it, but it seems like a really good idea.
  14. I thought there might be some benefit in creating a forum where (1) people can post if they are declining an offer, and (2) where people can post where they are wait-listed. Sure, there is no guarantee the wait-listed person will get the spot, but it's still nice to know, right? Or we can put anything related to wait-lists here.
  15. I only applied to MA programs that waive tuition. I told myself that if I can't get into a funded program, then I am not qualified enough to go yet.
  16. I got my first response/acceptance!! I'm officially accepted to University of Alabama's fully funded Masters program!! It comes with waived tuition, a $13,500 Graduate Assistant stipend and an $800 Loomis scholarship (per year). Hallelujah. One down, four more to go. It's just such a relief that no matter what happens, I am moving forward.
  17. I just got an email from Alabama and had a heart attck. Saw the topic and had another one: "Your UA Graduate Application Has Been Referred." Read it, and was both let down and lifted up: "Your application to the English, MA program has been compiled by the Graduate School and referred to the academic department office for their review. You will need to contact the department office directly with any questions about their timeline for making admissions recommendations. For help finding departmental contacts, you can click here. Best regards, UA Graduate School Staff" SO CLOSE.
  18. I can't seem to stop complaining about how bored I am and I feel like everyone is getting annoyed with me. But, it's like all of my anxiety about Grad School combined with going from having 1,000 things to do for applications to just. waiting. is transforming into extreme, overwhelming boredom. I am beginning to regret taking a gap year after graduating. I thought it would give me more time/focus on applications, and eliminate the burnt out feeling, (it did and it has), but now I'm going crazy with academic disuse. I work as a tutor and in retail, and I'm still feeling time crawl, empty and endless. Ugh. Any of y'all feeling this? I can't wait until I get one positive response, so that I can start obsessing over something productive.
  19. Are the acceptance dates for M.A. similar?
  20. Are there sites where people who go to those schools can chat and search for roommates? Are there sites for those schools where students chat and find roommates?
  21. If you don't mind my asking, what did your applications look like? GRE scores, GPA, WS/SoP emphasis, etc.? What do you think set you apart? When did you hear back from the schools?
  22. I just feel my life will be 100% better when ONE SCHOOL accepts me (I know that sounds presumptuous, but we all handle the stress differently). I can finally have purpose again - looking up the school more, apartments in the area, finding potential roommates, budgeting potential stipends/living rate struggles, contacting people accepted/already going there, etc. And if I end up getting accepted later on to another school and have to repeat the process, even better. So much research to do and actions to take, in blinding contrast to this terribly uncomfortable period of knowing nothing and twiddling my thumbs.
  23. I thought I was emotionally ready to wait until February to freak out about application results, but seeing all of your responses has me checking my email and Grad Cafe once an hour. I have to keep reminding myself it's only January. My apartment lease ends July 1st, and every application I sent out is in a different state. Longest. Wait time. Ever.
  24. Is anyone else stalking the Results page, reading and reacting to everyone's responses, even if it has no relation to your program? There are 62 posts from today only. I am living vicariously through these people getting accepted right now.
  25. @Wyatt's Terps, how do you find the programs' Admitted Students days? I tried checking on the Syracuse University website, but couldn't find it.
