Hello, I have a membership with ToC Journals alerts. However, I don't get that many emails... is there a way to have journal articles alerts specific to our area of research with SAGE Publications for instance (or other major publications websites for scientific articles)?

Any news? It appears the contest has not opened yet...

The professor emailed me today to tell me that my last summary was excellent. I did not ask for it. So it's reassuring.

I have found books that explain Foucault's arguments for beginners, which has been immensely helpful. But, I have to think critically about his argument and I feel like I'm at a stage where I'm just trying to understand what he says before I can critically comment on it.

Hello everyone, so I just finished my first week of PhD studies, and I have to admit that I find the readings I was assigned quite daunting. I am reading Foucault for the first time in my life. It has taken me 1 and a half day to "partially" understand 2/3 of the chapter I have to read, and I am not done yet. I have to submit a critical commentary of 2 pages on Wednesday, I have started it but, I find it hard to summarize his argument. (I need to learn to do this asap because of the comprehensive exam that is coming next summer.) Is this normal? I'm also the youngest person in my seminar, and I feel like my past degrees and past university did not teach me how to read very heavy theoretical texts in comparison to my class colleagues who come from other disciplines than mine. We had to comment some readings this week, and I find that my comments were not relevant and did not have enough depth.

Yes, that's what I have been told by multiple people, that if you are from Quebec and study in Ontario, you can combine FRQ with OGS (I am not talking about SSHRC here.). But I would check if the rules have changed, but as far I as know, they were no rules about this so that's why many people did that.

Hello, I am reading Foucault for the first time. I am not accustomed to this level of reading. Any tips on how to understand these kinds of texts better while reading? Thanks,

Hello, I have a 1-2 pages critical summary to complete each week on the readings assigned in my class. How much should be allotted to summarizing the text versus commenting on it from my perspective and discipline? thanks!

I also think it depends for how long you've been living in Quebec...I would check the eligibility criteria just to be sure if I were you.

A lot of people I know who are living in Quebec but studying in Ontario apply to both OGS and FRQ. There is nothing that doesn't allow you to combine both. It's a loophole, there seems to be no clear barrier to doing this I have been told multiple times.

Got a radio interview tomorrow after a op-ed I have published two weeks ago. I'm really happy because it's related to my research expertise. Yay!

I was about to start a thread saying the same thing. The forum is quite dead for a while now I find.

Same here

This thread is gold. I have taken an appointment with a therapist in early September. I am dealing with a lot of stressors including 1st year Ph.D. student, moving out for the first time, moving out of my hometown, being far from my social network, etc. I have also just registered for a gym class.

I actually thanked the examiner in my acknowledgements! My thesis is much stronger in terms of quality now and I am proud of my work.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT! I learned a lot from this experience even if it was difficult and I will be able to carry that knowledge on to my PhD studies
