  1. I think this speaks to different epistemological stances that we have in research (and that is okay), but personally speaking, I don't believe in objectivity in research, regardless of the type of research. I think a research is more rigourous when the subjectivity of the researcher is made explicit. Because it is always there anyway.
  2. I understand your dissapointment. I also did not get a scholarship I really wanted this year as well. I will try again next year. Yet, I do believe that it is important to have research that is actually impactful and useful to communities. It's more than just "activism". The field of research has historically been quite oppressive to certain communities and have excluded some forms of knowledge. So I'm more than happy about the changes that are happening, it forces all researchers to think about these aspects within their own work. Plus, when it comes to publications, there are a lot of factors to take into consideration, including the prestige of the journals these people were published in. You did not have access to their files, so you do not know who were the other applicants and what were their files. And there's always the "luck" factor as well. Some of these selection processes can be somewhat subjective to a certain extent, for many reasons.
  3. I was told by a the person responsible for the scholarships at my university that non-selected participants won't receive any email from the Foundation. So yes, better luck next year for us.
  4. I own these two books: https://www.amazon.ca/Getting-What-You-Came-Students/dp/0374524777 https://www.amazon.ca/-/fr/Karen-Kelsky/dp/0553419420/ref=pd_sbs_14_t_2/138-3197055-0523917?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=0553419420&pd_rd_r=6a0b0c1a-0893-4127-90bc-22a3935d39c4&pd_rd_w=ltYN6&pd_rd_wg=D6vFB&pf_rd_p=9926bb69-42b9-46e4-b788-f665992e326d&pf_rd_r=NJK17349D2T81J65EJYM&psc=1&refRID=NJK17349D2T81J65EJYM There's also a blog for The Professor Is In.
  5. Someone from my university said that they will contact only the finalists. but there seems to be some confusion about whether 24-26 of February are the interviews dates or the days when they will invite the finalists...
  6. If anyone gets a rejection letter, tell us. I did not get mine but I am expecting it.

I know it's a highly competitive scholarship, though. But my feeling was that they'd give a platform to people from marginalized communities and emerging scholars who have true impact in their communities...
  8. I agree with you that rejection and failure is part of academia (it's my second time applying). But you seem to fit what they are looking for...I was also told by past recipients that I am total fit into what the Foundation is looking for, and they encouraged me to apply as well. And after reading all the changes they've made to the Foundation recently, I would be surprised that they'd pick finalists solely on the prestige of the universities they come from.
  9. I wish I knew about the outcome of my application for the Trudeau scholarship. The waiting is horrible, and it appears that the finalists were already contacted.
  10. Made a media interview today:) Went pretty well!
  11. I was not aware that there is a waitlist...
  12. One prof of my departement appeared extremely surprised that I did not get any news from the Foundation. He appears to have a lot of faith in me (he has read my application, and helped me put it out together). I don't know if that will be enough.
  13. Yes, clearly they've already made their choices...I just wish they could have informed everyone at the same time regardless of the outcome.
  14. Some info here: I saw someone on social media (one of my Facebook friends) asking on behalf of someone information regarding the scholarship today. I am assuming because that person got an interview invite, even if the Facebook post did not say so explicitely. Also, the other person in my department who got nominated by my university also did not get any news. I am under the impression that they are sending out the invites one by one...which is strange. My application is still under review on the Portal.
  15. Hello, I passed. I am in my second semester of my PhD studies
  16. Did anyone else receive any news ?
  17. Did you get to choose which of the three days for the interview?
  18. Maybe. But I don't think I'll get invited. I'll re-try again next year, worst case scenario, it's my second time applying.
  19. Hello, how did you learn this? Were you contacted directly or by your university ? Apparently, there is a group and one-on-one interview from what I have read before. Congrats!!!
  20. I am in my second semester of my PhD.
  21. Publications can be books, book chapters or scientific articles. Thank you for the link, it looks quite helpful and resourseful!
  22. I guess we will know next week the waiting is hard!
  23. I have a feeling it will come from the Foundation
