  1. So on their website, it says that Vanier will open mid-June.
  2. Hello, I will be at a conference at the end of August till early September. I will be in Paris and Nanterre. Any recommendations of restaurants or things I must absolutely see or go to?
  3. Do you know if FRQSC pays 1-2 buisiness days late like SSHRC?
  4. Can you combine FRQSC at the Master's level with TAships and other fellowships? I may be part of a policy institute next year as well as TAing and both are paid opportunities.
  5. Do you need to buy anything specific as a TA?
  6. UofOttawa doesn't have that information yet, I've asked them.
  7. This thread is really helpful. Lots of thoughtful advice. (I love this forum, I'm amazed by the quality of answers we find here which constracts with what you can find on the internet nowadays). I am probably going to be a TA next term (Fall) and I saw that my uni is offering workshops for new TAs and that they are paid. I am definetly going to take advantage of those.
  8. Not necessarily. One of my course papers this term was actually writing a chapter of my thesis. But I am definetly going to change a few things in my actual thesis (add more details for instance, etc.)
  9. I went to the gym and ran for an hour. I only burned 300 calories but I'm proud of myself for taking these steps to enhance my physical health.
  10. I applied to my first TA position. Will know in July if I got selected!
  11. I went to the gym today and paid myself a membership. Only 10 bucks a month!
  12. How do you communicate that you want your award to start for the fall 2018 semester? I feel like we're going to receive funding this summer and I don't want that, because I already have SSHRC.
  13. 7 applications in my committee just to clarify, not for the entire contest lol
  14. They have evaluated 7 applications and I was ranked 2nd. Wow! So surprised!
  15. I just checked, in your portfolio, results are online!!! I got funded, it says "retenu pour financement"!!!
  16. Good to know. I'll check at midnight just to see, but otherwise, I'll just go to bed and see tomorrow. I'm so nervous.
  17. Anyone has used Focusmate before? https://www.focusmate.com/support I've just joined, and will tell you if it's been helpful to me. But it sounds like a great tool to fight against procrastination!
  18. Yes! I've seen something similar at my university. I'll explore that option. Thank you!
  19. Do you think results will go out at midnight?
  20. I took part in a face-to-face tarot reading course with a few people today! Perfect for this rainy day. It was fun.
  21. Hello everyone, I was involved in a awareness campaign on a specific social issue in the last year, and I have seen in the last few days that I am being quoted by name in at least two peer-reviewed research articles. I don't have the premium version of ResearchGate and Academia.edu, so I only get some notifications through emails that someone is citing me by name, but one of my friends who was doing research for a undergraduate university assignment noticed while being on ResearchGate that one article talked about us specifically (she was also part of that campaign) and our contribution to that campaign in a way that wasn't very flattering. Mostly, the article is saying that the campaign used us for their own image or something like that (I haven't read the entire article), so even though it isn't criticizing us directly, it still mentions our names as examples to illustrate the author's point. Although I am fine with people criticizing me, especially in a manner that's articulate and non-personal, and that I agree with most of what's I read from the article (because these were considerations and questions I had in mind after having taking part in the campaign) I still wonder: how do you get used to other scholars critizicing your work or your community involvement? Because I just looked at my emails and I got new notifications again, on a extra article. I don't think that article will go widespread because it's on a online research community, but my colleague who was also part of that campaign seemed to be very much affected by that negative article.
  22. Usually it's A- (80%) at least. But community involvement and leadership is also important at the master's and doctoral level.
  23. Exactly. Thank you for understanding. I just wish I could construct something meaningful in a relationship (not with friends, I have plenty of friends) and having struggled my entire life to find that makes me very sad. It is truly what is missing in my life. Being in love with someone that genuinely loves you back seems like a truly transformative experience, and I am very sad that I never got the opportunity to experience that.
  24. yeah true I'm tired of waiting though
  25. Thats totally not true. The fact that I have dropped by initial research project and that I have picked something that's more realistically doable within the next year, is actually out of respect for that community. PS : I have work experience with sexual assault survivors, and I've been an activist for that cause as well. It's not coming out of the blue.
