  1. Hello, I live in Montreal so I can only speak to the admission process at UdeM, UQAM and McGill. You can PM me if you have more questions. PS : This thread is for Ph.D programs applications btw.
  2. Inspiring! Thank you for sharing.
  3. I think they should do it with names as well because there has been studies showing that people from other countries (or even Canadian or US citizens but that have immigrant parents) get discriminated against because of their names that do not sound 'Canadian' or 'English' enough
  4. Yes, and I believe this was precisely due to potential for discrimination that it's not the case in North America, am I correct?
  5. Thank you for your thoughtful answers!
  6. Yes, I agree with this. It's actually normal or not unusual that your research topic changes a little bit after applying.
  7. Thanks! I did not know about this resource!
  8. Amazing! Congrats again
  9. Hello, so I currently live two hours away (by train, bus or car) from the university I am applying to for Ph.D programs. I was told today by a current student that the two seminars offered each semester at the doctoral level are on the same day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon). Do you think I should move to that city or remain where I live now & travel every week to attend that 1 day of seminars? Is it something that you have done yourselves?
  10. I got a grant to work at a health and social policy institute next year on the issue of sexual violence (my thesis' topic).
  11. Thanks for the advice. I am still working on my proposal, and am struggling to distinguish between goals, objectives and methods. I don't know why though. bBecause I was able to distingish those for two other scholarships (that I've won for my master's) but for my Ph.D, these categories get blurred to me.
  12. I just paid my driving lessons! ?
  13. I was moderating a panel today and for two minutes, I was very confused about what it is I was supposed to do exactly due to the instructions I had received prior to the event. Turned out okay, but I felt useless and like I did not know what I was doing and being the perfectionnist that I am, I don't like feeling like this in front of a crowd. It went well, but it could've been better. But yeah, it's done.
  14. Good luck! ❤️
  15. Hello, Is it true that experiences as a RA are more valued in academia than experices as a TA?
  16. Thanks! I also bought also a lonely planet guide (lol, typical)
  17. 1) Taking part in a research congress tomorrow on sexual assault in colleges in universities. I'll be moderating two workshops! 2) Everytime my current supervisor sees me, she smiles a LOT in the same way that she smiles when she talks about her own children. We've known each other and worked together for the last 4-5 years so I guess she must appreciate me a lot.
  18. I should've changed the title of this thread to 2018-2019
  19. If this man was single, I really believe that we've would've been a very solid & happy couple.
  20. Do it anyway. I'm sure you'll be amazing. I also have impostor syndrome (which I feel is quite common among women) and everytime I decided to surpass it, life has given me the greatest rewards. I believe in you & obviously, other people do as well! ❤️
  21. Hello, anyone applying for Fall 2019 at a Canadian university?
  22. I bought my plane ticket yesterday! ?
  23. I just opened up my application fall for Ph.D. in Social Work for Fall 2019! Can't sleep so did that instead, especially since I have to apply to three scholarships this summer alone lol
