  1. Same here
  2. Hello, you can call Michelle Chiasson at 418-643-7582 ext. 3161. (It's on their website). I just got an email saying that I would get my first 'versement' today. Am I getting it on the 15 and 30 or the entire semester in one shot?
  3. I just called them. So even if I am still in my master's program, I have to declare SSHRC for my first year of studies, and FRQSC will start in September 2018 instead of tomorrow. And then, after that, I will have to start filling up a report form for my first year of my MSW so they can know what I have done so far.
  4. Hum, Im confused about your post. Could you clarify?
  5. I post a lot of stuff like newspaper articles, songs that I enjoy and memes. I truly don't post everything. But even I post some things, I still feel shy. That's why I don't completely understand why this lady said that I was 'shining too much', she literally said she was tired of hearing people talking about me positively.
  6. Hello everyone, so I started working on my Ph.D. research proposal for a scholarship that I have to apply for by September 2018 for entering my program in Fall 2019 (I am currently a master's student). I have a great idea for my Ph.D. thesis, I'm working on it with my Ph.D. supervisor, but I'm really struggling to figure out if the actual objectives of my thesis are achievable in 4-5 years full-time. I'm also having a hard time figuring out what it is about that topic that I want to study specifically. I'm lacking structure in other words, I don't know how to convey what it is I want to study. I've written grant proposals before and have been successful each time I applied for grants, but this one is a major one and I can't wrap my head around how to put into paper what it is that I want to focus on specifically in relation to that main topic. I'm especially struggling with coming up with a research question/objectives and sub-objectives. Help?
  7. Hello, according to this document, I have to do a "rapport d'étape" because I got SSHRC for my first year of my master's studies? I'm very confused
  8. - I feel very lonely and depressed today. - I got a billion things to do and yet, I feel like I don't even know where to begin and that I have plenty of time to do them.
  9. Hello, I wonder if you girls ever feel shy when it comes to talking about your accomplishments on social media? My professional life is going pretty well right now, I've come a long way, and I share what I do online. However, I often feel shy about sharing those things out of fear that people may think that I'm 'bragging'. Once, a woman that I have never met told me that she is deleting me off Facebook for her mental health because she says that I 'shine too much'. (I never responded to her message.) Also, I have a lot of young black teens who are following me on social media and i feel like I have to share the things I do mostly for them. I'm well aware that as a visible minority, people won't come to look for me, that I have to put myself out there but I find it difficult because I don't like talking about the things that I accomplish. Anyone else feeling this way?
  10. Hello! I know Vanier definetely wants more international applicants and winners of this scholarship!
  11. Officially done with my coursework. Finished my first year as a graduate student with a CGPA of 3.83 out of 4. Now on to the ethics approval to start collecting data next fall.
  12. So on their website, it says that Vanier will open mid-June.
  13. Hello, I will be at a conference at the end of August till early September. I will be in Paris and Nanterre. Any recommendations of restaurants or things I must absolutely see or go to?
  14. Do you know if FRQSC pays 1-2 buisiness days late like SSHRC?
  15. Can you combine FRQSC at the Master's level with TAships and other fellowships? I may be part of a policy institute next year as well as TAing and both are paid opportunities.
  16. Do you need to buy anything specific as a TA?
  17. UofOttawa doesn't have that information yet, I've asked them.
  18. This thread is really helpful. Lots of thoughtful advice. (I love this forum, I'm amazed by the quality of answers we find here which constracts with what you can find on the internet nowadays). I am probably going to be a TA next term (Fall) and I saw that my uni is offering workshops for new TAs and that they are paid. I am definetly going to take advantage of those.
  19. Not necessarily. One of my course papers this term was actually writing a chapter of my thesis. But I am definetly going to change a few things in my actual thesis (add more details for instance, etc.)
  20. I went to the gym and ran for an hour. I only burned 300 calories but I'm proud of myself for taking these steps to enhance my physical health.
  21. I applied to my first TA position. Will know in July if I got selected!
  22. I went to the gym today and paid myself a membership. Only 10 bucks a month!
  23. How do you communicate that you want your award to start for the fall 2018 semester? I feel like we're going to receive funding this summer and I don't want that, because I already have SSHRC.
  24. 7 applications in my committee just to clarify, not for the entire contest lol
  25. They have evaluated 7 applications and I was ranked 2nd. Wow! So surprised!
