  1. I found a new direction to my research project that seems feasable. Yay!
  2. That's excellent advice. I also live with bipolar disorder and a lot of anxiety/depressive symptoms. And I definetly don't compromise sleeping. Otherwise, I just don't function well if I don't get 8+ hours of sleep. I'm really lucky to not struggle with insomnia.
  3. At my uni, when I pay my student fees, I have an insurance included in it and that covers for my medication. I live in Quebec, so a part of my medication costs are covered by public health care. So basically, it costs nothing to me with the school insurance and the public health care combined.
  4. Hello, so I have met with my supervisor. It went pretty well. We've decided together that I'd keep the same research project but that I would broaden the population that I wanted to study. So my target population are women in general, instead of women of a marginalized community. And instead of doing multiple interviews, I'm going to conduct two to three focus groups with workers who intervene with survivors of sexual assault. We believe I should be able to finish it all within a year. It sounds like a good plan to me!
  5. I'm meeting with my supervisor tomorrow. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks everyone!
  6. When applying for Vanier ,are you automatically considered for SSHRC?
  7. For Ph.D, that's how they grade it. For me, it's 60 (competency) and 40 (research project), so yes, there's more emphasis on research at the Ph.D. level.
  8. I am waiting for a decision for FRQSC at the master's level right now. I believe you need a first class average? Which would be A- for your entire master's studies?
  9. Yeah sorry. My English is not the best (I am a francophone). I am currently at McGill but am applying to Ottawa for my Ph.D. My current advisor is someone I've worked with since my undergraduate studies and I have a great link with her. However, for Ph.D. programs and scholarships, mobility is important and that's why I am applying to Ottawa. The potential supervisor at Ottawa is a safe option for me in terms of my expectations and needs as a supervisee. I don't want to risk studying somewhere else because I trust this advisor at Ottawa. Is that clearer?
  10. It's not my advisor who's saying that I should go elsewhere. It's my friend who read through my proposal.
  11. Hello everyone, I am working on a scholarship application. One of my friends read through my research proposal and she did mention that my topic is very interesting but has difficulty seeing how it relates to social work. She says that it appears to her that it would be a better fit in sociology, political science or communications. Social work is quite interdisciplinary as a field, and the reason why I picked social work is because I did my undergrad and graduate studies in social work. I'm picking a different university for my Ph.D. and have a very good feeling about my advisor (with whom I have developed this proposal). I don't want to risk going elsewhere to an advisor I feel that I won't be able to work with. What are you thoughts on this? I'll probably stick to SW anyway, but just wanted to hear your two cents.
  12. I believe you can't have both at the same time. But CGS-M is more prestigious. It also makes you more likely to win the Ontario Grad Scholarship in the following year. The more scholarships you get, even the small ones, the better it is for the most prestigious ones. PS : I'm also a MSW but in Quebec. I got CGS-M for 2017-2018 and am waiting for the Quebec Grad scholarship (FRQSC) for 2018-2019 (should know by the end of the month).
  13. what is the difference between a scholarship and a grant?
  14. Good luck!!
  15. LOL I am not applying for Vanier this year, but I'd be having a heart attack lol
  16. I'm also considering applying for Fall 2019.
  17. Thanks everyone. I am asking this because I realize that I feel very lonely (although I am an independant person and loves spending time on my own). Grad school is a very lonely process I find.
  18. The results will be out at the end of April. I'm still feeling anxious over the situation that happened last term due to a mistake in my grades....I am still admissible to the scholarship when I look at the portal, but am traumatized about what happened and fear that I will somehow become unadmissible lol
  19. I am at McGill, got the award last year, but do not know what was my ranking. I was just told by a prof that was on the comittee that my ranking was very high.
  20. Hello, how do you guys self-care?
  21. Oh, I'm way too much of a perfectionnist to do that lol.
  22. I totally understand the feeling, I was so surprised I got funded last year! It's a good thing to apply even when one's unsure of their chances.
