  1. I thought that you meant something else by IRB. Yes, I have to do Ethics Board of course. (sorry, I am a francophone so I don't know how these boards are called in English all the time and depending on the country). For all of your follow-up questions, I have the answers to all of those. It's already been thought out and discussed with my advisor. I have applied for SSHRC last year (and got funded for the first year of my program) and FRSQC, (for next year, am waiting for the answer) so my research proposal is pretty solid and clear (but still flexible and workable for a qualitative study).
  2. I also ask my advisor. I speak regularly with her, but I like having other perspectives too and using this forum as well.
  3. Makes sense. I don't mind graduating one extra semester than what I orginally thought. Thanks for your input and perspective. Really appreciated!
  4. I don't have the actual people I am going to interview, but I've already contacted the organization where these people work. I don't need IRB. Ethics will be quite quick (2 months) because it's a low-risk research. I was planning on starting doing the interviews this summer.
  5. Hello, I would like to start my data collection this summer. I am planning on doing approximately 10 interviews with participants for my research. Then I need to transcribe those interviews, analyse them with the help of the software N'Vivo and write my actual master's thesis. Is it realistic of me to believe that I can finish all of this before the end of 2018 considering that I will be done with my classes this term? I would like to graduate in February 2019 if possible.
  6. Today I got new make-up in the mail. Also, I missed my first class of the semester because I called 911 for a stranger who was not feeling well and approached me to call an ambulance while I was heading to school. We waited 1 hour before the ambulance came. He's fine and I'm glad he is okay now.
  7. I made a joke on my Facebook page that Oprah Winfrey should be the next US President. Some people got overly critical of this by saying things like "she's not a savior; she's a capitalist and bla bla bla." Why so serious? It's just a way for me to say that I loved her speech yesterday that's it. Wow.
  8. I am coping well. This is going to sound strange but school is a coping mechanism for me in terms of my mental health. I truly feel at peace in an academic setting and it helps me a lot (I was quite depressed since last summer and going to school everyday actually helps me go through the days because I feel passionnate about what I study. I'm also on medication and it helps).
  9. Are Vanier and Trudeau scholarships transferable from one university to another (especially if one considers applying to one than more university )?
  10. Just got my last grade for Fall 2017. I got an A. My CGPA is now 3.90 out of 4!!!! Way to start a master's degree, I worked really hard and it paid off. I gotta keep this up for Winter 2018.
  11. I got my nails done today. Yay!
  12. I have one last grade that I did not get from last semester. Come on prof.
  13. I used to enjoy being single. Now I can't stand it anymore.
  14. Retail therapy for me tonight. Best way to deal with a broken heart for me.
  15. You can also live in Gatineau which is in Quebec but nearby Ottawa to have cheaper rent.
  16. It's very doable. There are buses that you can take or VIA Rail trains.
  17. Congrats for being forwarded to the national competition. I'm applying to Vanier this year for 2019-2020.
  18. Hello everyone, what is your greatest accomplishment this year (professional, academic or personal)? What are your hopes for 2018? How did you find 2017?
  19. I have received my new pair of glasses. Never wore glasses before, but the ones I bought were cheap AND really stylish. I'm happy!
  20. Trying out dating websites again. This time a paid one (EliteSingles). I had tried it a few years ago, but I am re-trying again for three months and we'll see where it will take me.
  21. I feel quite depressed lately but I am trying to see friends and/or new people and laugh everyday. This week, I am at an activity for a few days out of my city in which I am meeting a lot of new faces and laughing a lot so it's helpful. I also am trying again dating websites to hopefully find an interesting partner.
  22. I created a thread for Ph.D. applicants (in Canada) a few weeks ago. I am applying also for Ph.D. programs in a few months. Given how little numbers of social workers decide to do Ph.D., do you think it is necessary that I apply to one than more program?
  23. Hello, Someone told me about a microprogram of graduate level on teaching in postsecondary institutions that is being offered at a uni in my city. It's 15 credits (one semester basically), can be done full-time or part-time and you get an attestation at the end (not an actually diploma but it's definetly an added value to a CV). Do you think that it's necessary to get that kind of training to teach at college or university level? I know I want to teach but I don't feel like I will get the tools out of a Ph.D. program...am I wrong? Also, do you think it's possible to do that kind of program while doing a Ph.D.?
