  1. I believe the some oral defenses are public, so maybe you could attend one from another student (either at the master's level or phD level) just to get an idea of what it is like?
  2. Second driving lessons course tonight.
  3. I am waiting for ethics approval to start recruiting participants for my master's thesis. It's been four weeks. It's long.
  4. I hope you'll still have a chance to apply and be successful!
  5. That's strange, in my case, anyone interested can apply and then the departement/institution select best applicants.
  6. Wow. I don't have advice, but I'm appalled because it seems like horror stories like these are a common thing in Academia. Am I wrong? I'm so sorry you have to go through this, this is really unethical..
  7. The only thing that's missing to my application are my academic referees letters. I always get anxious about that because I'm always afraid that they forget about me.
  8. I don't know why: I can't see the deadline of my chosen university in ResearchNet. Am I the only one? I hope it won't affect the moment when my application will be downloaded by the coordinator of the program at UOttawa.
  9. Do you think I should get a dog? Do you think it's realistic to be able to take care of a pet for the first time (I've never had a pet) while doing a PhD and living on your own?
  10. Wow, no one is applying to PhD programs in SW in Canada? ?
  11. Going to France for a research conference in exactly 1 month!
  12. Everyone tells me that I have good chances of getting a Vanier scholarship, but I feel like for Trudeau they are looking for something different. am unsure.
  13. I wonder what will be the changes to their criteria and when they will launch the scholarship application period. Wonder if it will be very much different from previous years, if there is going to be more scholarships offered, etc.
  14. Amazing. Yes, it's always good to apply for scholarships, that's what I've been doing since CEGEP (in Quebec).
  15. Where are you applying (university)?
  16. You are absolutely right about that.
  17. Had a Pina Colada bubble tea.
  18. I'm moving from Montreal to the Gatineau/Ottawa area, probably Gatineau. It's two hours and a half away from Mtl.
  19. This is common sense, IMO. I don't know if I can make it to Trudeau, it appears that everyone that has won the award was the "director" or some sort of organization they founded or something. I've definetely had a lot of leadership positions in my life (and I still do), but I wonder if this is enough. I feel like Vanier is an easier process as compared to Trudeau.
  20. Yes, I've attended all the workshops that I could and did multiple drafts of my research proposal and asked for feedback from past recipients as well. I'm applying to SSHRC Doctoral, Vanier & Trudeau this year. Good luck to you too!
  21. Hello, so I plan on moving out in about a year for my PhD. How early should I start shopping for stuff for my future apartment (never lived on my own, so for some things I have to start from scratch). Any advice? What was your experience ?
  22. So I only have my referees letters that are missing to my application and that's it. I'm still nervous, everybody says I have good chances of getting the award but still, you never know.
  23. I may be traveling to Switzerland in September. Fingers crossed. I am almost done with my Vanier application. Only two letters of referees are missing to my application and that's it
  24. Since May, I had lost 5lbs. I gained it all back. Losing weight is so hard.
