  1. Hello! I am in the same situation, I learned that I needed to submit to my current university.
  2. What I mean is that many universities where I live give the option to master's and doctoral students to do a scientific paper (scientific article) instead of doing a "typical" thesis. It says on my uni's website that I could publish 1 article and for doctoral students it's 2 articles minimum instead of doing the thesis.
  3. Hello, did anyone here publish their master's thesis under the format of a manuscript for scientific publication? What are the pros and cons?
  4. Originally, I was planning on using phenomenology for my master's thesis as a qualitative method. Turns out that grounded theory appears to be more appropriate and more align with my research goals/questions. The thing is that I have realized that AFTER I recruited my participants for my study (n=11). I am near the end of data collection, I have two interviews left out of these 11 participants. I am not familiar with grounded theory but as I am reading on the topic, I am realizing that my sample is too small for a grounded theory study. I am reading that you need 20-30 participants. The thing is that I cannot recruit 20 participants because I need to finish my thesis in February. What should I do now? (I am meeting with my advisor to discuss this, but it's in two weeks and I feel anxious in the meantime which is why I'm asking here).
  5. I conducted one interview today (two left now) and finished transcribing a 3rd one (3 left to transcribe.) yay!
  6. Don’t be so humble! You deserve the trust.
  7. Hello is there a chat room for the users of this forum?
  8. It's an institutional decision, I got no power over it.
  9. It's because of administrative deadlines and to allow time for the external examiner to correct the initial thesis. The final version has to be submitted April 15, but the initial one is six weeks before that
  10. I just learned that I need to submit my thesis in Early February instead of April 15. (the initial version which is kinda of like the final version). FML. That leaves me 3 months to transcribe, analyze and write the last chapters of my thesis.
  11. Just had the confirmation that I need to submit my thesis in early February in order for me to graduate in June. That’s two months earlier than what I originally thought. FML.
  12. Just found out another student in the exact same program and same university as me also got forwarded to Ottawa. I feel like this will decrease my chances of getting the award.
  13. Finished transcribing a 2nd interview today. 4 more to transcribe and 3 more to conduct. I can do this!
  14. I submitted the final version of my Vanier application. Results: March 31, 2019. Wow.
  15. Thank you. My supervisor also thinks it's doable. I hope I'll be able to finish this for April 15.
  16. Hello everyone, so I am working on my grant application (2 page research proposal) for a very prestigious scholarship for PhD. I am using qualitative methods (print media articles, interviews & focus groups) for my project. As I am writing my grant application, I have a feeling that the Analysis section of my application is not as clear as it could be. The thing is that I don't know how to make it clearer. I've been working on this for a long time and have to submit it tomorrow. I am currently a master's student and still don't have a clear sense on how to analyze media articles, interviews and focus groups for one research project. Help? Thanks!
  17. Good luck to everyone who is being forwarded to Ottawa!
  18. I'm halfway done transcribing another interview today. Yay!
  19. ExpressScribe has expired I can no longer use their free version..
  20. Not really because in SW, at my uni, I am the only student doing a thesis option at the master's level on a cohort of 30-40 students. Everyone else graduated last year because they were doing a field option... but I am part of some groups outside of my department, I can definitely reach out. Thanks!
  21. I got forwarded to the institutional competition for SSHRC Doctoral. I finished transcribing one interview today and began coding.
  22. thanks to both of you for your answers btw.
  23. Yes, these researchers are familiar to me since last week (I did research on grounded theory in the last couple of days).I asked to meet with my advisor, but she cancelled on me again (she's so busy). But I went to the library and took three books on grounded theory, it's from the authors you've mentioned. I'm still trying to figure out how to concretely analyze my data, like a step-by-step thing. I feel confused. Plus, I am going to have a workshop on how to use NVivo (I bought a license) which I don't know how to use yet.
  24. I have to submit my thesis (final version) for April 15, 2019. Currently (October 2018) I have 9 interviews of 1 hour each + 1 focus group of three hours to transcribe. I can't hire someone to do it for me for a number of reasons I won't list here. I have to use grounded theory to analyze my data but have zero idea how to begin and what are the steps. I feel like I won't be able to make it for my deadline (it's a master's thesis).
