  1. Hi! I am already into my program, but am doing an option in gender and women's studies with my major Love feminist studies!
  2. The semester has just started and I already feel overwhelmed (workload and extracurricular activities!) I'm used to manage a lot at the same time, but yeah, I'm a bit anxious.
  3. Anxious a little bit about next class because a former classmate (and now a current student for the class I am TAing for) screamed on the first day of the course that I have done a TEDx talk. Everyone applauded. Instructor asked that I send her the link so she can send it to the class. She did not know I had done a TEDx talk, I was quite low profile about it because it's regarding my mental health journey. I'm used to have people talking to me about this, but I'm afraid it will bring students who are struggling to share personal stories regarding their mental health in university and I am unsure where to draw the line about my role regarding this since this is the first class I am TAing, ever. Wow.
  4. I'm hesitating. They come in my hometown in February, so these consultations seem to be a very long process.
  5. Do you plan to attend those public consultations?
  6. I haven't heard anything and my current university doesn't have any new information as well. I feel just like you, I'm curious to know what the changes will be.
  7. I came back from Europe yesterday and I'm exhausted. I have to TA tomorrow morning..
  8. Submitted my application tonight! Fingers crossed now.
  9. Yeah, two people told me about Dedoose. Never heard of this one before. What do you think of it?
  10. Yay! One LoR has been submitted and my supervisor will submit the second one tonight! So relieved!
  11. Ok, so one of my academic referee said she would write the letter tomorrow. I'm reassured because she was the one I was the most worried about! The other one has not gotten back to me yet, but she is my master's supervisor, so I'm sure it'll be fine. Yes!
  12. I did my conference paper at an international conference this week. I did not have as much content as I would've love to but yeah, it's done.
  13. Hello, Two questions. 1) How common practice is it in qualitative interviews to provide interviewees questions ahead of time? 2) I am conducting focus groups. I read that the ideal size of a focus groups is 6-8 people. However, due to scheduling issues, I may have to reduce the size of focus groups or literally conduct individual interviews with some participants. Is it "bad" research practice if I decide to conduct focus groups of 3-4 people instead and have more total focus groups at the end for the project? ps: I will discuss that with my supervisor after Labor Day, when I get back to school. Thanks
  14. Yes, but it depends on the uni. In my program, doctoral students have priority. However, I did get a TAship for this fall and I am a MSW student, but that's because a spot has opened and I was next on their priority list.
  15. I sent them the reminder through ResearchNet. If in two days, the letters are still not there, I'll send them another reminder by email. I've been working on my application since early 2018 I can't miss the boat because of them.
  16. I did it. It went okay (I believe), I had only a little data to show them, not much... At the panel, I got zero questions at the end of my presentation
  17. Ok, 6 days left and still nothing. I'll send a reminder when there is three days left. Those LOR are pretty lengthy, I don't think it's something that can be done the day before..
  18. Hello, I am sorry things have not gotten better for you. We are in the same boat. And I totally understand what you mean when you talk about "almost relationships". It's the story of my life. It's very frustrating but I have given up on this. I feel better when I tell myself that I don't want to be hopeful anymore and want to start looking at other options. To be honest, I am considering having a family on my own at this point. Not tomorrow, but I am on a waitlist to adopt in a couple of years. Additionally, I recently found an Internet forum of single women in my region who have decided to have a kids on their own either through adoption or medical procedures. Most of these women started their journey at the end of their 20s, a lot of them are mothers already. It's a resource where we support one another no matter what stage we are at in our journey. Some who had their children and were older when they did said they would've started the process earlier if they knew it was possible (so around my age basically). Finding this forum really helped me to realize that I am not insane or being ridiculous for wishing to be in a stable relationship at almost 26. One woman said that she finds it ironical that when a single woman in her mid-twenties wants a family, everybody says "oh you're young, you're worried for nothing, you've got plenty of time." But tons of people are in committed relationships in their mid-twenties and have kids at that age and nobody says anything negative about that. The fact that I am single doesn't change anything to the fact that I'd like to have these types of experiences as well.
  19. I usually just have a notebook with key points I want to address/talk about. It really depends. In terms of my actual thesis, we just communicate by email most of the time.
  20. I'll be joining a peer writing group next year to be working on my first scientific article in which I'll be the sole author
  21. So, I am only missing two LOR and there are 11 days left to the institutional deadline of uOttawa I'll be away in another country until the deadline. When is it reasonable to email the profs about this? I had asked them to submit their letters this week
