UCLA's a quarter system school, so there's more academic terms and more classes to take relative to a semester system school. It's still a 2-year MPP, so I wouldn't judge a program purely based on its unit count.
I did quarter system for undergrad and I'm now in a semester MPP program. I miss the breadth of the quarter system and the chance to take lots of different classes with different faculty, personally.

I got into UCLA but only got a $5k fellowship. I also got into UCI with a 50% scholarship, but I have concerns about its alumni program, strength of curriculum, and the fact their MPP is unranked.

I’m still waiting on USC, and hoping to get a big scholarship from them. My friend just got in with a 75% scholarship. If I get the same or more, I’ll go to USC.

Well, NYU is a higher ranked school but it is MUCH more expensive. I’m not sure about the transportation aspect specifically, but I’m sure that there will be aspects at both, since public transportation is a big deal in LA and NYC. Do you have any other deciding factors? Lol I’m also looking at both!

Would anyone be interested in a "NYU Wagner Fall 2021 Admitted Students" facebook group or something similar, so we can get to know each other? I could make one and maybe the admissions office will help share it out
It sucks that the admitted students events will have to be virtual again this year.

How will it pay for itself?  If you mean it is 'worth it' in terms of experiences, networks etc, then maybe, but that doesn't translate into the cold hard cash you need to pay back your loans. The Harvard name won't get you higher pay for government work (see, for example, numerous posts on this board talking about govt hiring scales), and most non-profits in the field the OP is interested in don't have spare cash to throw around just for prestige - it might get you a couple of thousand extra in salary if you're lucky, but that's not going to make much of a dent in $100K+ of debt. HKS might get you better access to the top consulting firms, which will give you serious cash if that's what you want to do, but that's not what most people who do MPP degrees want to do.

I would be a bit surprised if you got into Wagner or USC Price give how competitive this year is. However, not shocked because you do bring a lot of diversity (Transportation is a rather unique policy area of interest - which sounds strange, but it is true)
I'm decently confident that you should be able to get into most of the other schools (assuming that everything else is straight). I think the best program for you out for the ones I thin you have a strong chance in would be GWU MPP.

    Hi all,
I just want to say thank you to this forum in accompanying me through my graduate application journey. You guys are such a bunch of kind, reliable strangers!
For those who are not coming to LKY, I believe that there will be greater things destined for you. Failures are, after all, learning process and happened to everybody. Anywhere, anytime. I am myself rejected by my other graduate choices. So, cheer up and good luck for your next endeavors!
For those deciding to attend LKY MPP 2017 class, we have started a group in Facebook. The keywords are "LKY MPP 2017-2019". If you do not or cannot access FB, you can contact me through personal message in this forum. Not quite sure about other programs (MPA, MIA) tho as I only know the MPP cohort.
Have a nice day, guys! Best of luck for all of us!

I have visited both schools and both cities, though I have not studied in either. I know professors and graduate students at ANU.
City: If quiet is your thing, go to Canberra. You can take a three-hour bus across beautiful Australian plains to get to Sydney for the hubbub. Or you can drive 1.5 hours to Hyams Beach in Shoalhaven for an escape. There are lots of small towns with amazing restaurants along the way. Melbourne's weather is considered quite mercurial, with multiple changes in the course of a day, including colder-than-Australian-usual temperatures. But Melbourne has all the culture, architecture and whatnot. Crucially, you'll never get stuck in traffic in Canberra. In Melbourne, all bets are off.
Uni: I sat in on a law class at UniMelb. It was pretty good. But walking there, I was taking photos of the campus on my phone when what seemed like a bunch of snotty-nosed undergrads walked past and audibly mocked my touristy-ness. I have had a bad taste in my mouth for UniMelb since. I know doctoral graduates, doctoral candidates, master's graduates and master's students at ANU. They all seem like a pretty close-knit community. I know a couple of their professors. They're extremely nice and take students down to Shoalhaven/Hyams Beach for retreats multiple times a year. ANU hosts a lot of events and foreign visitors. It has very close ties with DFAT, Australia's department of state. Several ambassadors, directors-general and others are ANU grads, so the ANU-DFAT link is strong...professors offer policy input/guidance, etc. to all levels of DFAT and even DIBP, the immigration people.
People: Canberra is a lot like DC...a city of very educated, progressive young professionals, many of them connected with the government, law firms, NGOs, contracting agencies, etc. Melbourne is one of the two cultural capitals of Australia (along with Sydney), so you'll have a lot of events. It's also a melting pot, so a lot of immigrant communities (visit Afghan Bazaar in Dandenong, for example).
I know it's a tough choice. But personally, I can live in a city like Canberra or DC. I don't need constant stimulation. I'd go with the better university. Purely on the basis of its location and the nice community, I'd go with ANU. It's also a more prominent Aussie uni.

oh my god you guys. In a crazy and completely unexpected turn of events i was offered the full scholarship just now. I'm completely taken aback considering how clearly admissions had stated that I was not given anything!  I'm still in shock. So there you have it, my previous advice might have been mistaken. Good luck to all and thank you for the support! I honestly would have lost my mind without gradcafe!

ok guys so I spoke to LKY, they said I didn't get a scholarship and that chances of scholarships being redistributed are slim, exact words were "I can't tell you if it could happen but I would say no". So, there you have it. For anyone still wondering if your letter didn't contain the scholarship that's the end of the game unless a miracle happens but don't hold your breath.
oh and for people still waiting, since all of us from the first batch have to submit our decision by thursday chances are the next round of acceptances will start either friday or next monday or tuesday (this is conjecture on my part, LKY didn't tell me this). Acceptances are done in batches not in a steady stream so don't worry if you don't hear in the next few days, usually they do all of them together throughout one or two days.

Anything we say here on scholarship will just be mare speculations. For me, I'll just keep my fingers crossed waiting for their response. One thing for sure though is the fact that without scholarship, it will be a critical challenge for me.

Yup I asked them this question as well and they said the first batch went to 30 persons and most of them got scholarship. Nevertheless, not everybody will say yes for the offer so next batches will surely see more than 50 persons invited.
    Good luck!

Thanks all for the kind words!
I applied for the MPP program and they said I must send back my response in a week. The scholarship covers monthly stipend, housing, books, and settling costs. Also, flights to and from Singapore.
