  1. At least you can go to Boston. I'd trade Boston for UofF, any day. Michigan is a toss up, but I still think I'd got to Boston.
  2. Being rejected twice from them, myself...they will.
  3. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  4. They literally only say that so you stop messaging them. I've had professors say "Well, if you haven't received a rejection that means you're still in it!" Turns out, they just haven't sent out their mass rejections, yet. They use all sorts of excuses to stop being spammed by scared/worried grad prospects.
  5. Ha. Yeah, don't get caught by your boss while posting on here during work. xD That said, I can't really teach anyone anything. The one thing that I seem to be good at is showing people how to get rejected from PhD programmes.
  6. Ha. Well, I guess it's a good thing there aren't any major cliffs in DC. lol I suggest PM'ing some of the English Lit PhD students/candidates. As for saving your money, I've already wasted over 5k in app fees over the last few years, so I already wasted it for you. You're welcome. lol
  7. They can. Most grad schools have fellowships you can apply for to start your research in the summer before.
  8. Though this is pretty generous, if I were you @crackademik, I'd be cautious sending people my SOP since they are often very very revealing, esp to randos on the internet--no offense.
  9. Don't make the same mistake I've made. Don't apply to the same schools twice. Unless you're making a huge difference in your application, don't bother, you'll get rejected again. You know they specifically look at some and go "Oh this guy? He got rejected last time so I'm not gonna bother with it this time." I've been rejected so many times from the same schools. Though, it's smart to panic apply to grad schools whose app deadlines haven't finished. I'm gonna do that too with University of Missouri. =/
  10. FYI, from the last 30 schools I applied to over the last two years, i have noticed that nearly all of the rejections come in around Feb 14th. The Jan 15 applications, it is usually around Mar 3rd. So...here's hoping the next 2 weeks is good for you all. It clearly won't be for me xD
  11. That's worse than me >_<. *continues banging head on desk* Despite 12 applications, I will probably have another year of rejections. If you get the same, I can lend you my desk. It serves as a good place to bang your head >.>.
  12. As the title says, why has no one created a website for all the deadlines for applications, sorted by program? And if there is, someone tell me what it is. Most of you will be thinking that it is because it is very time consuming, but it is easily something that can be written and designed for community imput. Meaning, you can let users submit the deadlines to the schools they are applying to. That way it allows for the most accuracy, despite the occassional troll. I mean, there's clearly a community of us who are willing to do things like that...this website being a great example of that. Software engineers, where are you on this one?
  13. I'm with you here. Seems to me that my biggest problem is I don't know how to sell myself. I wonder if they have professional SOP writers...I would pay a proper sum of money for someone who writes a great and creative SOP. I see people with my stats get accepted all the time, so it must be my SOP. *bangs head on desk*
  14. So, I've learned over the years that watching acceptances go through does literally nothing but upset you. There's nothing you can do, anymore. You can't call and beg--believe me, if that was a thing, I'd be calling every day. You just have to let the week go by and just hope you get an email that week. If you don't, check the websites over the weekend. In the mean while, share your misery with those who are struggling and try to ignore the people who got acceptances as their excitement bleeds out onto the forums. Literally nothing more you can do.
  15. I'm not exactly applying to Ivy League schools. Hell, two of them are ranked over 100 in physics grad school ranking. lol But thanks for the encouragement.
  16. This reference is lost on me.
  17. I know that pain, man. I really do.
  18. I keep reading these "Where were you when you got accepted" posts and all I keep thinking is I wish these sort of things would happen to me, but, ultimately, I know it won't. I know I'm suppose to be uplifted and feel like "hey, that could happen to me!" but I don't...I've seen too much rejection. So, I'm ambivalent. I'm both happy that they got the opportunity to feel that feeling of absolute excitement and relief and sad knowing that I won't be able to. Hope you all go on to being good academics. Work hard for those of us that will never get the chance. Wish I could be there with ya!
  19. In F17, I got admitted to two schools and was never interviewed by them. Interview is really only done if they feel they need more information to get a better picture. Lots of people get admitted without interviews. Hang in there.
  20. A quck look through your schools and your program show that there are quite a lot of people who have been accepted as late as March. Ghosting by universities is very real. In many ways, I wish they'd just straight out reject those who stand no chance so that you know right away not to waste the anxiety on them. There could be a chance you could be passed over this year. I'm all too familiar with that feeling. That said, it really isn't the end of the world. Remember: Strength is not determined by the number of times you get knocked down, but by the number of times you get back up. Quite a few people get passed over. You just have to keep your head up and work on making a better application for next year. Admittedly, though, it looks like you've gotten some interviews, which is a lot further than most people have gotten--myself included. Just bite your lip and wait until March. Not much you can do by worrying about it.
  21. No harm in replying and thanking them/showing your excitement. They'll largely ignore you email, but who doesn't like thank you emails?
