  1. Congrats, enhorabuena, felicitacions to @HomewardBoundand @Monsieur Vénus! Living vicariously through your acceptances
  2. I'm in the applied to six but haven't heard from any boat, outside one interview a few weeks ago. Still trying to stay optimistic, bracing for the worse, and trying to keep from playing what if and keep busy. @Yanaka Thank you so much for your lovely metaphor It's a great way to look at it! '
  3. I'm hoping to adopt a golden retriever from rescue or the pound or something this summer before grad school. I need a support animal! So count me in the "I want a dog" group.
  4. So question...is it normal for a M.A. in Spanish not to hear anything from any school by Feb. 13? Should I be bracing myself for bad news or keep my hopes up? I've had one interview...it was two weeks ago. Six applications. I think I have too much free time right now to allow my mind go to places.
  5. @Carly Rae Jepsen Hope you're feeling better soon! Gastro is horrible. So my job hasn't paid me for January yet, which in addition to the anxiety of not hearing back from any of my programs yet, is creating a huge anxiety-depression mess for me. And anything I do, I feel like I'm wasting my time. I just wish I knew something about my future...and that I would see the direct deposit in my account already. I really hate weekends because I don't really have anything to do but time to think. I'm trying to write and distract myself with films and series...no money to go anywhere to hike...just want to SCREAM! I feel better venting.
  6. Enhorabuena, @Liljuliet!
  7. CU Boulder is my top choice most days I really like Chicago, but I feel I need a MA first before going for the Ph.D so didn't apply this cycle. Two years from now though.... So an enhorabuena for having your school! Enhorabona and zorionak too, not sure in gallego. I say most days as I love all the programs I applied to! CU just has my beloved Catalán. I'm sure you'll be accepted to both, but I am also selfishly glad that you got into Chicago as that is a bit less competition jejeje It'll only be as awkward as you let it be! I'm sure everyone will be professional about it. They usually just say martes 13 in Spain, but the abuelas add the ni te cases ni te embarques for good measure.. I really don't want any news that day as I think it would be a bad sign.
  8. @sprklinthe I sorta am counting on it myself...I mean, I know no rejection yet, it's still somewhat early for Spanish...but...this is not helping the anxiety and depression issues I already have! We gotta keep the hope alive!
  9. Sorry about Northwestern, @Flor de Liz and enhorabuena about the "informal conversation"...even if you're going somewhere else! Where are you going, if you want to share? I still haven't heard a word from anywhere, so I guess I can still dream about all the possibilities...worried about being a complete shut out though... I'm also worried that I'll hear from one of them on martes 13...martes y trece, ni te cases ni te embarques, ya sabéis. I love reading and living vicariously through good news though
  10. I'm slowly starting to freak out that I haven't heard anything from any of my schools, outside a Skype interview last week. I know humanities and Spanish tend to come later I know that it means I haven't been out right rejected...but every day my mind starts to create stories which is not good...trying to stay positive and send out positive vibes...but I keep freaking out. Especially when I see how many people have heard from other schools. I need better distractions.
  11. @SlyManuel ¡Enhorabuena! I still haven't heard from anywhere yet and am starting to think I won't be admitted anywhere...and I know it's super early. And I know it means I haven't had any rejection either...so trying to tell myself that. Still, I'm so jealous of everyone who has heard back Especially heard back with great news!
  12. Congrats to @Saltshaker and @awhiterussian and anyone else who got an acceptance today. So sorry for the UPenn folks, but I'm sure most of you already have acceptances to other places. Still haven't heard from any of my Spanish applications, so I'm living vicariously through the French folks...and rooting for you all.
  13. Mucha suerte a todos esta semana y este mes ¡Animo! I can't wait to run out of reacts for all the good news we're all getting this week. @Imenol Mucha mierda in the interview (maybe that's only a Spain thing, but good luck). Sorry again about Michigan
  14. Me, but I'm Spanish lit...haven't gotten rejected yet either though. @culturalcriminal I hope neither of us have to worry about applications next autumn
  15. @SlyManuel I think some of the French people have heard from Indiana, Bloomington, but I haven't heard anything about Spanish folks. A lot of people are asking about Rutgers on other forums so I don't think anyone knows anything in any field there, jaja.
  16. I applied for M.A. with an intention of doing a Ph.D after, but I feel I need the M.A. first. Field/Program: Spanish/Hispanic Studies with a focus on Peninsular Literature Schools: Colorado-Boulder, Illinois-Urbana-Champaign, Washington (Seattle), Toronto, McGill, Texas Tech Status? Interview this week with Texas Tech. No word on anything yet.
  17. Sorry you didn't get in, but at least you've heard from a place. The waiting is killing me. My fave profe from undergrad always said Michigan would be a dream school but extremely competitive so I didn't apply. As long as you get into a school that does line up with your interests!
  18. I'm seriously hoping no news is good news...*sigh*
  19. I have moments where I'm sure I'll get into one, and then the next moment I'll feel like "I'm a fraud, I don't know Spanish (I've only lived in Spain 10 years haha), I'm a horrible writer, what was I thinking?
  20. Same here. I don't know if no news is good news or not. I've heard good things about the Michigan program, but I haven't heard of anything this year. Nothing on the results page so guessing no.
  21. Enhorabuena to everyone! So happy for you Frenchies
  22. @Carly Rae Jepsen I'm excited for you. A friend from uni was happy with the French program at IU. ¡Enhorabuena!
  23. Popping in to say hola/bonjour from the Spanish side of things. I'm lurking here because you're so much more active over here...bonne chance and felicitacions (sp) to those of you who have been accepted already!
  24. @Caravaggista Mucha suerte con todas tus solicitudes I will definitely ask you all about Montreal (If I speak English, Spanish and Catalán fluently and know some Italian, is it easy to fake French? For example!) if I get into McGill and end up there. But we could both end up at Toronto too! The thing about not hearing back from any place yet is that we still have the hopes and dreams to keep us occupied! You could be at Columbia still! I just had my interview with Texas Tech. I think I would be happy in their department if I were to be accepted. They seem like great people. My fave profe from undergrad is now there.
