Shellacked again...
senorbrightside replied to FreakyFoucault's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I just had a dream that I got accepted into the one I'm pretty sure I'll be rejected from, but they gave my application a "B" for some reason. Needless to say, I didn't even wake up to an email. Ah well, I can still daydream about grad school. -
I think "enhorabuena" is used more in Spain than other places. The best profes always retire but always come back. One of my faves keeps postponing his retirement. It'll be us one day, right?

Enhorabuena @Flor de Liz Chicago is one of my top choices for my Ph.D (just doing the MA at the moment) so I may see you there in two years! So excited for you.

App as shorthand for application, not for an app...that I know of! Good luck to you too!

I'm an American and applied to do a M.A. in Spanish/Hispanic studies at Toronto and McGill (along with American unis). My Toronto app went from "all documents submitted" to "under review" this week which was exciting. Good luck to everyone!

Very cool. Thanks. I'm applying for Spanish and not sure if there are enough results to do that.

I have a Skype interview with Texas Tech on Monday! Anyone do an interview before? It was great news to wake up to.

@Chipmonk! ¡Enhorabuena! I did undergrad at UK(entucky) so, even though I couldn't care less about basketball, I didn't apply to Duke Good luck on that one and the others too!

I did that! Bye bye LinkedIn! Don't give up hope, even if it looks bleak. I'm hoping you get in. If you really want to be a lawyer then go for it, and if not, save for the next cycle. Keeping my fingers crossed you get in though.

Having flatmate problems distracting me from properly worrying about this! Jaja. Last week I had a few meltdowns about not knowing...this week, well outside the flatmate problems and trying to find a new place to live to keep me distracted, I'm a bit more "I'll find out when I'll find out" yet still check portals once a day and the results page various times a day, as it's fun to see commentary from other disciplines....quiero saber ya. Hope everyone finds out soon and gets the results that they want

Any Older (30+) applicants out there
senorbrightside replied to SarahBethSortino's topic in Waiting it Out
I'm 36...applying for a Master with a plan for eventual Ph.D. I applied to grad school when I went back to undergrad to make my Spanish minor a major, and I was rejected, so I ran away to Spain with the intention of always returning for grad school...but I just didn't want to leave Spain. I finally decided to grow up as things in Spain are not the best at the moment. I know Spain will always be there, especially since I want to do peninsular literature. Anyway, it's going to be a complete fresh start, having to reacclimate to the US (or acclimate to Canada, as I applied to two Canadian programs). I don't see 36 as too old at all, and I hope I'm not wrong about that! I just hope I get accepted! -
All of mine still say "submitted"...not even a change to "under review" or anything. I am nervous, but as long as I don't know, I still have my hopes and dreams alive. Trying to look at the positive. I can still hope and dream

What will you do if you get your first acceptance letter?
senorbrightside replied to littlemy's topic in Waiting it Out
I will probably scream of excitement, tell a few people about it and wait for the other decisions to be made if it isn't my top choice and cross my fingers the funding will come through so it can happen! Sorry to the poster above me who got rejected. I know what that feels like too well! I tried in 2008 and was rejected all around. Last year I was accepted to the one I had money to apply to, but the funding fell through. -
Don't lose hope! Two people have posted acceptances for my #2 program...and I haven't heard anything...so I understand exactly how stressful it is. Just keep the faith

GRE Twisting Experimental Sections Based On Intended Degrees
senorbrightside replied to skhann's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
Spanish/Journalism major applying for a master in Spanish literature chiming in. I was given three quant sections. I cursed. As an aside, none of my programs look at the scores but require it because the grad school requires it. I did pretty decent on it all things considered. Definitely an interesting hypothesis.- 48 replies

I guess I'll stay in Spain another year (I came to Spain after getting rejected to all the grad schools I applied for 2008 and never went back, but the job situation in Spain is so horrible for Americans so I went back to my MA/PH.D dream and applied to MA programs in Spanish/Hispanic Studies for next year) and reapply next year. Or substitute teach. Or figure out how to make a living off my travel blog.

UIUC is my second choice, and I haven't heard anything from them yet, but I'm American and they probably are letting international students know first. Are you Ph.D or Master? And where are you from? Are you doing linguistics or literature? I'm just anxious to know something from them jeje. If you're 100% certain, I wouldn't apply to any more personally, but if you're not, then apply to the others. They may offer more funding or it could be a better fit for you. I'd probably apply. Last year I only had money to apply for one, and I was accepted but the funding fell through...so this year saved so I could apply to six.

I finished all my apps in early December since I had two due then. I'm interested mostly in Peninsular Literature with a focus on 20th and 21st century lit and film and Spanish Nationalism (Catalan, Basque, Gallego, Andaluz etc)...I applied to Illinois, Colorado-Boulder, Washington, Texas Tech, Toronto and McGill. It looks like we all have varied research interests.
-
I'm going for peninsular literature (I've been living in Spain for the past 9 years). I'll say which programs I applied to when everyone else does jeje. I did see that an international applicant was accepted already into one of my top choices, but they were accepted for linguistics. Mucha suerte a todos y todas

¡Hola! I'm a nervous wreck too...I applied for six master programs, and I'm worried about not getting into any school as they're all pretty competitive. I'm also pretty stressed. Two deadlines have passed already so...very anxious to just know!
