  1. Anyone heard about interviews for CyberCoprs at Gtown SSP?
  2. It’s about $72k for the 40 credits degree
  3. Congratulations on your acceptance! However, I feel your pain on the lack of funding. Even if I get off the waitlist, chances are there won’t be any funding available neither.
  4. Waitlisted, which is surprising... Let's hope a spot opens up. Worse comes to worst, I still got admitted to GWU with 40% funding.
  5. Apparently we’re supposed to hear back today.
  6. I believe OPM has to “give approval” when you send them your job offer. Cyber security is so vague that you can be doing anything from SOC threat analysis to policy. I would guess as long as you don’t have to bend the job duties to make your point, you should be good. What do you do in cyber? PM if you want to discuss more...
  7. I did for Georgetown. I am currently working in cyber with some other Cyberfellows from other schools and they really like it. Seems to be an amazing program.
  8. Congratulations! What specialization are you interested in? I am still waiting, hopefully I'll hear from her soon... Did you apply to external fellowships?
  9. Congratulations! Good for you! I’m still waiting to hear from Jessica. Have you received any fellowship $$? When did you apply to the program? Regarding the two programs, it really depends what you are interested in. I’m in the Army with desire to work for the gov in security related fields so SSP is the best option for me. MSFS, seems to be more “generalist” in terms of curriculum.
  10. Wait, did you receive an offer of admission to SSP..?
  11. Do you have any background in the military/IC? What are you interested in? Do you have a clearance?
  12. I called Jessica last week, she didn't mention anything about people that have already received a decision.
  13. That’s a nice April fool lol. Last year decisions were released on March 15th. Hopefully, they will follow the same pattern this year!
  14. I had a relatively good experience with the school, although I was expecting more “challenging” classes. Some professors were only teaching to add a bullet point on their resume and the class content had no relationship to the class title. The school has been notorious for “formatting” the political elite despite tremendous efforts to increase diversity. Thus why people in France call it “the school of BS”. Although I personally called BS when there were less than 2 working outlets per classroom. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a really good school. Prospective students just need to understand it will not have the same notoriety as US schools.
  15. I studied abroad at Sciences Po (a.k.a Sciences Pipo, i.e. “Sciences bullsh*t”) for one semester and I have a lot of friends that go/graduated from the school. It really depends on the MA and your career goals. Be careful though, really few people (even in the field, how surprising?) know about it in the US and would assume it to be a tier 3 school, which it is definitely not.
  16. I don’t want to be harsh but joining to benefit from future perks in the decision admission / job market is not, to my mind, the most adequate motivation. Some of my soldiers did, and that’s up to them, but I still want to believe serving in the military is not about perks. Yes, it will probably help me in the future, so does diversity affirmative actions, quotas, finances etc...
  17. Hello everyone! Any applicants for GU SSP program for the Fall 2018?
  18. Nope, I'll finish undergrad next May. Those programs were two two-weeks seminars (one a the French National Defense University, the other at the French Reserve CGSC) that never had any U.S. military students. I worked with the U.S. Embassy in Paris to make it happen. I should have better explained myself: while those are defense related partnerships, they are probably irrelevant to the bigger strategic picture.
  19. Program: MIA-type programs with a security focus Schools Applying To: Georgetown MSFS & SSP, American SIS, GWU Elliot, SAIS, Tufts Fletcher, Yale Jackson Interests: Security studies, military partnerships and defense cooperation Undergrad Institution: Top 50 university Undergraduate GPA: 3.995, best academics from program Undergraduate Majors: IT with Cyber focus, Political Science (semester abroad at Sciences Po w/ focus on Security Studies) GRE: Not taken yet Quantitative Courses: Microeco (A-), calc(A), data science(A) Years of Work Experience: 0, but couple years in the Army Reserve (Civil Affairs) Age: 23 Languages: French (native), English (fluent), Hebrew (notions) Work Experience: Multiple internships with Defense contractors and across the U.S. Intelligence Community. I am also about to commission as a Military Intelligence Officer in the Army Reserve. About to co-publish with renown Professor on Blockchain. Previously co-published through the French National Defense University on Russia/Europe. Lots of research sponsored by DoD (I even presented at the Pentagon during a DoD Lab Day). Initiated bilateral defense partnerships between France and the U.S. and graduated from prestigious programs. About to spend my last semester in D.C. for an internship on Security Policy at the Pentagon. LORs: 1 from my research professor, very respected across DoD and cyber security, 1 from Professor of Military Science at my ROTC department, 1 from Political Science/ IoT/Blockchain renown professor, SAIS graduate and current MIT lecturer. I have been working with the Chancellor at my University and he is a Georgetown graduate. He said he would call Georgetown President to recommend me (not sure if joking or not though). SOPs: Why I dropped out of French law school and left my family to join the U.S. Army to eventually serve as a liaison and close the cultural gap between the two countries. After grad school, I would like to join a Federal Agency for a 1811 serie or go back to the IC. Concerns: I know for a fact that I will trash my GRE. I am taking 23 credits this semester so I don't have the time to study. However, I am hoping they will put more value on a 23 credits semester with a 4.0 than good GRE scores.
