For those of you who have their last update in February, did you all get that second email post submission? And for those of you who have their last update the day of submission, did you get two emails post submission? I hope that makes sense haha. I'm curious if the half of applicants that were sent two emails have more recent updates.

Honorable mention here. Congrats to all that were awarded or got an honorable mention! To those who weren't, you're going to be amazing scientists and this doesn't negate that.

I did computer and computational sciences in ARO BAA and my application was last updated 12/06!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!!

I would imagine (hope) the fellowship numbers per group are proportional to the number of those who apply per group! However, they made it seem like individuals among subgroups are compared with each other to ensure fairness. I'd love to know if any of that's true though haha

I went to an NSF panel prior to applying and they said that senior undergrads are compared with senior undergrads, first years with first years, and second years with second years

Would you rather get a rejected on a Friday or a Monday? (poll!)
ScienceGeek replied to AnxiousNerd's topic in The Lobby
DEFINITELY A FRIDAY. If I got rejected on a Friday (hopefully not putting that out in the universe), I could spend the weekend out with friends/ destressing/ getting over all my fears and anxieties. Then I could go back to work on Monday and everything would be fine. If I was rejected on a Monday, then I have to deal with it all week .. with no outlet!! hahaha -

I am first generation student, both at the undergraduate level and hopefully now at the graduate. My dad was a factory worker until he got sick with MS nearly a decade ago and my mom stayed at home to watch after my sisters and I. Education was important in my family, but never pushed. I remember telling my mom that I wanted to attend university (through merit based scholarships, loans, and financial aid) and her words were, "If you want to go to college, go for it. You'll have to figure it out on your own though because I can't help you." Now let me tell you, financial information is super complicated to a 16 year old, and I was fairly certain I did everything wrong, but fast forward 7+ years and here I am with a bachelors degree in biophysics and applications out for PhD programs. Education has always been my focus and I feel impostor syndrome ALL the time, but I think what's important is tenacity. Whether you're a first generation student or you come from a long line of PhDs, your motives and your love for discovery must outshine everything else.

@javajunkie95 if you're excited about the program and the university you've been accepted to, especially if you received sufficient funding, I don't think it's necessary for you to apply to your safety! Congratulations on your acceptance by the way

From my understanding, it takes a few weeks for your scores to come in and then be sent to your respected departments. You may be okay to retake it if you've already started studying at the time you submitted this question, but less than a month's worth of studying won't likely significantly improve your scores. I would opt not to retake it since it is a lot of money and effort. If I were you, I'd spend my time writing a killer and focused SOP. You have plenty of experience and a good GPA

Hi friends, I just posted this in the engineering forum, but I figured it would work nicely here too. I thought I'd start a thread where we could post our research interests and perspective fields, maybe inciting cool discussions. I'm currently applying to a few different departments (biophysics, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, chemistry etc) with the hope of doing computational disease modeling. Right now, the goal is to focus on a system of autoimmunity, incorporating quantum mechanics as well as bench science. If you couldn't already tell, I super love multidisciplinary research :). What are you all interested in?

What to do if a professor does not reply?
ScienceGeek replied to EngiNerd-12's topic in Waiting it Out
@EngiNerd-12 I'm curious to know what programs you applied to and what your research interests are, if you don't mind sharing :). I see your program says biomedical physics and that's very similar to what I plan to go into! -
I think it would be neat to work on a national park and be some sort of ranger/biologist. Spending a year or two appreciating the beauty of the outdoors couldn't be all that bad
