  1. Personally NO. lol! I would just apply for clinical psychology or counseling psychology programs if this is important to u!
  2. Licensing gets dicey.... unless there's an internship/practicum in your PhD program you would not receive a license from APA to practice. However, you would still be a Psychologist just not have the license to practice and further bill as a psychologist. The most important aspect about being licensed is billing
  3. Do you happen to have a masters in clinical counseling? I have a masters in counseling (and licensure) and will be attending a PhD program in a non-clinical area. So if push comes to shove or I find myself wanting to balance academic/clinical I can always do private practice/still be in the clinical realm. However, without a masters and subsequent license, its something to think about. Do you want spend your career diagnosing, doing therapy, writing treatment plans... or not? Without a license/accrediting body to answer to you cant to any of that work, period. I would do some self reflection and figure out what it is that you want to do, what would bring you joy, and a route/path should illuminate itself to you
  4. Thank you for replying! And thanks for your perspective, it's great to hear, and comforting. I'll be my POI's first doc student
  5. Is it better for your POI to be at the beginning or at the end?
  6. Hey! So I recently left an interview and I made sure to ask career trajectories and what current grad students hope to do with their PhD. Many of them said academia/tenure track professor route. While others are involved in consultation, research firm, corporate, program development... it seems rather limitless! My background is clinical counseling so if push comes to shove for me, being involved in practice or applied is always an option .. the field appears open!
  7. Developmental folks, What is your plan career wise with a Ph.D in Developmental Psychology? The field is wide/vast and I know there's no formal licensure like clinical/counseling folks (depending on program) I've always leaned towards academia and applied settings, but im curious to know what others plan to do!
  8. I'm a literal ball of nerves at this point. Every time my phone buzzes my stomach drops. This cant be healthy!
  9. I feel the exact same way!!
  10. Im interviewing at CUNY that same day but for Developmental Psych! Good luck all!
  11. I really hate this whole waiting thing...
  12. left hand
  13. Its common to an extent. The POI is probably trying to assess/clarify fit before extending a formal offer to you.
  14. This must be extremely difficult/frustrating, and I hate that you are encountering these emotions simultaneously. Sometimes we enter seasons in life that we just don't understand, when all is said and done, I hope you receive some clarity in all of this. I wish you the best, and please don't call it quits forever. You have a lot to offer the field. Take some time, take care of you, get clarity, and if it feels right, get back in the game. Thanks for all you have attributed to the grad cafe community!
  15. Happy Friday! has anyone heard anything back from DePaul Clinical programs?
  16. I feel this 100%, This is my second time applying, as my first time was unsuccessful. The first time I made this mistake of letting a bunch of people know what my intentions and plans were, mostly because I was so confident that I was going to get in...somewhere! When those rejections started to roll in, all the questions were unbearable. I had to deal with my own disappointment and the disappointment of others, it was a lot to manage. If at all possible have a frank conversation with your mom, that you prefer to keep this part of your life on the low/private for now until you know what the outcomes will be, hopefully she respects that. Best of luck to you!
  17. Yes! If you don't mind me asking, what are the initials of your POI?
  18. WOW, that sounds like an amazing opportunity. If I was you, and that was offered in a city near me I would definitely take advantage, especially if being a professor is something you see yourself doing. To answer your questions, in short I'm not sure. Some PhD programs really focus on training scholars to be professors and offer opportunities for students to learn their teaching philosophy, TA, teach undergrad courses, etc. However, not all. If the microprogram is feasible, I say do it! It seems like it would be a niche and information-filled experience. If teaching is what you want to do in the long run having this microprogram on your CV will help with getting potential assistantships, teaching experiences, etc in grad school and the culmination of all of that would be amazing when you are in the field applying to tenure track positions. Hope that made sense!
  19. Can I just say, I love this thread! Feels like therapy for hopeful doctoral candidates, and im so here for it!
  20. Oh cool! Do you remember when you roughly heard back last year?
  21. Has anyone in this thread applied to NYU for their Developmental Psych program?
  22. Hello everyone! I applied to an assortment of clinical and developmental programs but I am patiently waiting to hear back from my top choice, DePaul (clinical-child) program! Thankfully the holidays are a good excuse to stay off email, and spend time with family, lol!
  23. I wouldn't be too hard on yourself, whats for you is for you. And for what its worth, it is still extremely early in the season
