Dealing with waiting
aelwood14 replied to soontobeslp2018's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I was accepted to Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR (right outside of Portland). I was told they really value applicants that are persistent and have over come adversities, which is was drew me to applying there. And I literally found out about 20 mins ago that I was put on the wait-list at Idaho State!- 20 replies

Dealing with waiting
aelwood14 replied to soontobeslp2018's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I worked an SLP-A for 5 years while I went back to school to retake some classes. I found out after I graduated the my undergrad that I had an undiagnosed learning disability. So I needed to make up for my lower GPA and work to bring up my grades! But do not ever give up! I can't tell you how many times I almost did. And finally getting an acceptance made it all worth it! You can do it!- 20 replies

I just saw on the results page someone was accepted to the online program... but I still haven’t heard anything! I’m just glad I was accepted somewhere else, it makes the waiting less stressful.- 439 replies

I seriously think they sent out that email way too prematurely. I think they gave a ton of people a sense of lost hope over the weekend. It even seems to be getting late today, but maybe we will finally hear tomorrow???- 439 replies

What Schools Are You Waiting On!?
aelwood14 replied to speechie2b's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
On the results page, people were accepted into NAU on 2/22 via postal service... I'm trying to stay hopeful that maybe it was such a first wave of admissions! Hopefully, we will start hearing back soon! Best of luck to you! -
What Schools Are You Waiting On!?
aelwood14 replied to speechie2b's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I am still waiting on almost all of the schools that I applied to. I found out I was accepted to Pacific U on 3/2 which I am beyond excited about. But I would still like hear back from the rest. Waiting on: Idaho State, University of MT, Northern Colorado University, Portland State, University of Wyoming, Northern Arizona University and Northern Colorado University. -
I am in the same boat as you! I have been working since I was 15 and I am having a very difficult time imagining not working during grad school while living completely off student loans (yikes). Josilyn from our Pacific U campus tour did tell me that some of the first grad students bartend or babysit for about 10-15 hours a week. Plus, at Pacific the first semester is set up that we will have classes Monday-Wednesday, then most Thursdays and Fridays we will have off to study with the exception of a few clinical observations here and there!

Dealing with waiting
aelwood14 replied to soontobeslp2018's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Hang in there, the entire process is completely nerve-racking, not to mention extremely expensive. I kept telling myself, "No news is still good news." I wouldn't give up hope just yet! Most schools typically notify applicants by mid-March. And I do not think you will be disappointing anyone that you are close to if you aren't accepted into a program. It took me 5 years of building experience, retaking courses, and two application rounds before I was accepted. When I was rejected from all of the schools I applied to during my first application, I choose to take it as a learning experience and figure out how I can make my application stronger. But, with that being said, it's still early so I wouldn't lose hope!- 20 replies

Yes, I was! I interviewed with Dr. Mandulak and her community partner Glen. I absolutely loved both them. Who did you interview with? I felt so welcome there and found that everyone I met was so nice and easy to talk to. It was a completely different environment than what I experienced during my undergrad. And I loved how personal their phone calls were, so much better than a standard email. After my interview, Pacific became my top choice, so I am sure I will be accepting the offer.
-
It seriously does! I over the weekend I had to double check my call log to make sure it was real hahaha. I am very anxious for the follow-up email. Do you think you will be accepting their offer? I have been trying to decide if I should make a FB group or if its too early still.

I am still waiting on U of MT and UNC too. I did my undergrad at U of MT and they are usually late in getting responses out. And they are currently trying to fill-in in a position for a new professor for the program, so I am sure we won't hear anything for awhile. Also, according to the admission results page, UM was at the end of March last year and UNC was around Mid-March... so hopefully we will hear soon! Best of luck!- 439 replies

Hi! I’m just curious as to when you heard from U of OR? I haven’t heard anything from them yet...
-
I agree! It based off the data admission results from last year, I am also guessing they will be trying to call people when they get a chance! I wouldn’t worry yet.
-
Same! I felt like I was just rambling ? but I guess it turned out okay! I’m anxious to see what the follow up email has to say.
-
I did!!! I loved her and Glen. They were both so easy to talk to! I left in complete shock about how nice and genuinely caring they both were.
-
Ok yes! I thought so.. for some reason I kind of think you may have been on my campus tour? It was with Josilyn and she was wearing red pants and black shirt. Maybe???
-
I didn't have my phone on me either I was just finishing up a workout and call them back. I was sitting on the gym floor shaking and crying because I was so happy. I'm sure it was quite the sight hahaha.

Yay! Congrats on the scholarship, that is awesome! Do you think you will be accepting the offer?

That is when I interviewed too!

It's awful and nothing but pure torture. I am hoping we will hear back on Monday! I was accepted into another program today though, which I wasn't expecting hear from until Mid-March! I was so focused on hearing from ISU I was thrown off when I heard back from Pacific U! Congrats on getting accepted into USC!- 439 replies

Awesome! I will make one tomorrow. when did you interview? Your profile pic looks familiar to me, and I was wondering if we were in the same interview group?
-
Yay!! Congrats! I will more than likely be accepting the offer as well. After my interview, Pacific immediately became my top choice. I am anxious to see what the follow-up email has to say. I was wonder if I should start a Facebook group for the class of 2020 cohort?!
