U of Montana also has an online Neuro Class this summer. I took it last year and loved the professor!

What Schools Are You Waiting On!?
aelwood14 replied to speechie2b's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
The University of Montana is the very last school I am waiting on. I heard through the grapevine it would be the first week of April until we are notified. The wait has been killing me. I have already been accepted elsewhere (my top choice), but I do not want to accept the offer until I have heard back from all schools. -
What Schools Are You Waiting On!?

Thanks! I just tried calling and was literally on their website looking for information. Their target was for early March... but I do know that they are short one staff right now and are in the process of hiring a new professor for the program. -

That is so strange! I haven't heard a peep out of them yet. Thankfully, I am accepted somewhere else but it would still be nice to at least know. -

I have a friend that applied there last year and literally never heard back from them. One would think if we are spending money on their application we should at least get a response. -

I am wondering if we have still not heard from NAU at this point if it is rejection? -
I agree, which is why I said that I agree with what rowboat47 said. I apologize I should have clarified that I was more so talking about during the CF year AFTER the degree is completed. I figured it was assumed because one can't complete a CF without having the degree completed first. Which should all be verified by human resources before someone is hired on to complete their CF.

I agree with Rowboat47. It was my understanding that you obtain your CCCs during your clinical fellowship (CF). I am currently working as an SLP-A in a school district (this is my fifth year) and when my supervisor was hired on 4 years ago, it was during her CF. She had to be supervised by another SLP from our district that already had her CCCs. From what I remember correctly, after so many hours of observation throughout the year and lots of paperwork later she eventually obtained her CCCs. I can ask her when I meet with her this week if that helps. You also do not have to have your CCCs, however, it is highly recommended. Another SLP in our district started over 50 years and does not have them because they weren't a "thing" when she first started. Also, to maintain your CCCs you do have the pay ASHA each year (I think my supervisor said it was like $250 a year), as well as, paying your state licensure fee each year. I hope this helps!

Is this Portland State University or another school? I was notified that I am on wait-list at Portland State via email on Friday.

I can personally say getting to graduate schools with a lower GPA is not impossible. I have a lower undergrad GPA (lower than 3.0) BUT I was accepted into graduate school this year. I found at age 24 that I had an undiagnosed learning disability which is why I have a lower GPA. I choose to go back to school and retake all of my CSD classes with the appropriate accommodations (even the ones I got Bs in). This raised my post-bach GPA to 3.98 and my last 60 credit GPA to 3.6. I also have experience working as an SLP-A for the past five years. I was accepted at Pacific U in Forest Grove, OR. They truly look at applicants holistically rather than just numbers on paper. If anyone tells you that it is impossible, ignore them! Because I am proof that it can happen if you work hard enough!

That does help thanks! I will more than likely be removing myself off of the of the wait-list because I have already been accepted somewhere else.
-
I am kind of thinking that everyone that was not accepted was put on the waitlist and that the waitlist will be narrowed down and rejections will be sent out via postal service. I could be wrong, but I know several people (at least six) on the waitlist, including myself and the email that was sent out stated on 2/28 stated: " All those applicants not receiving offer letters will be notified by email only (from our department, not the graduate school) that they have been placed on a wait list. Within the next couple weeks, the wait list will be shortened. Those denial letters will be sent by mail only. " To me, this is kind of send a sense of false hope to all those that weren't accepted. BUT at the same time, it is not a rejection yet! It seems like they have picked their top candidates then plan to go through once again to shorten the wait list.

I am a little overwhelmed the high cost of tuition, but like you, I have a feeling it will be worth it. While, it would be cheaper for me to go somewhere else I truly believe Pacific U program would be the best fit for me. I also agree that the graduate student's there do not seem stressed. Jocelyn actually told me that she has never felt stressed once because their program is set up to make you successful. This is huge for me and I truly feel it will be worth it!

First of all congrats! I do not know for sure how many are accepted off the waitlist each year but based off the ASHA Ed Find from last years data I would guess your chances are pretty good. There are 35 spots available and under their admission data, it says there were 66 acceptance offers!

I agree! Shoot me a personal message with your name and I will find ya on facebook.

I have never had that issue, but within the last ten minutes, I have been getting a "404 Error" Page Not Found. Is anyone else getting this?
-
Yes, I would love that! I haven't made Pacific U SLP Class of 2020 on fb yet because I was waiting until everyone heard back and made their final decisions. But yes let's be fb friends! I don't think it would be annoying, but I was going to wait until Friday or Monday then if nothing still I was going to consider emailing her. I bet she is busy sending out all of the decisions to everyone.

Oh my gosh, how nice is that?!

Haha I literally took a screenshot of my call history because so far its the only proof that I have haha. Mandulak was on my phone call as well, which I thought was super sweet that she made sure she was part of it. I loved her so much!
-
For those that were accepted, have you received the follow-up email from Diana yet? I thought I would have gotten it by now and honestly my acceptance doesn't quite feel real without the email haha.
-
They really do! I actually knew my graduate student mentor from undergrad! Total coincidence and not planned, I kind of forgot she was even going to school there! So it was super nice to see her and catch up! She told me it's a blessing to go there every day and she is never stressed out over school work because of the way they have the schedule set up. She also made me feel less nervous about my interview and told me all of the professors have an "open door" policy and you can walk down the hall and every one of them will say hi or ask if they can help you in any way! To me, this is huge because I felt like I had no support from my professors during my undergrad. Your interview outfit doesn't sound familiar to me, but I was little nervous and wasn't paying that much attention. Maybe you remember seeing me? I had on navy ankle cropped slacks, a light green cardigan, and a floral blouse.
