Accepted to Arizona PhD program w/ funding and UCSD PhD program w/ funding.

Just notified that I am accepted with full funding at Arizona. Nice email from Michael Mckenna with the news. I am waitlisted at several other programs, so this was a big relief. Woohoo!

Hi everyone,
After a steady stream of rejections, my one ray of hope (relatively) is that I just got notified that the admissions committee at one of the schools wants to interview me as they enter their final round of 'deliberations'. They mentioned wanting to talk about my work and interest in their program. I know why I like their program of course, and why I would want to attend. Does anyone have any tips for things I should or shouldn't do/mention/talk about? What are some questions they might ask (if there is a general set of questions typically asked) or things I should be ready to answer/address? And ultimately, I guess I'm wondering what they intend to gauge from these interviews apart from what is already apparent from my application? Any help is appreciated!

Not strictly a philosophy program, but I have been accepted to Western's Theory and Criticism program!

Arizona State HPS has made their offer official. I had it grouped about equally with MSU and Calgary. I have no idea what I'll do. If anyone is on a waitlist for one of these, please PM me and I will be completely transparent and offer you updates.

I'm interested to see what happens this year with "over accepting" while expecting a certain number to decline. I know one place did this last year and almost everyone accepted (whoops) which contributed to a closed admissions cycle this year.
 
The extension of the spreadsheet is putting together a 1 page summary outline that departments can use/adapt that captures this type of information along with pertinent application information (e.g., what does "official" transcript mean for your application, what is the application fee, are there fee waivers available, deadlines since a few too many departments ended up having 2 different ones listed this past cycle across pages on their websites, etc.). At this point transparency in the process will make everyone happier I imagine and in a digital age having folks update their information (e.g., Stanford may no longer want 2 official hard copies of transcripts but still had that one their website until this year) would be kinda nice.

Accepted to Simon Fraser, including full funding, travel funds, and the special graduate entrance scholarship. I am surprised: my writing sample was extremely niche, disallowing me to gauge how the committee would view it. Whatever the case, I am glad they found my research outline appealing, as I was nervous about this a month ago.

I wonder how much my referees have to do with where I have gotten in so far. MSU has close relations with two of my four referees and it has been relayed that one of my referees and someone at Calgary are close personal friends. It makes me wonder if I am actually doing this on my own merits. I also wouldn't have applied to so many places if I could better gauge myself in the applicant pool given the pandemic. I think December/January broke me, mentally. Now I check my email four times an hour - check here, the results page, and Facebook about twice a day - and open all of the portals once or twice a day. My partner cannot stand it.

Admissions are, and always have been, a chaotic shot in the dark for everyone applying with a ton of variables including arbitrary ones like who read the sample, who remembered to show up to the faculty meeting, who is on the admissions committee, etc. in addition to the application itself.

Folks are invited and encouraged to take a look at the conversations from years past on this matter and to take the conversation either to DMs or the venting thread. This isn't the place for it.

Accepted at Calgary.

Accepted to the MA at UofT w/ full funding. Extremely comforting as I grew up in TO. ?

Accepted at NIU for their MA! Funding decisions pending. 

No worries! I 100% get it. I feel p lucky that this season is over as soon as it's begun for me, but I was a wreck last year. Try to not spend too much time here (but I get that it's tough!) and keep in mind that results aren't a reflection on you and your value in the field. 

I get the stress but it's not necessarily a bad thing! Lots of schools won't start releasing decisions until mid-Feb or March. Hang in there!

Accepted to the University of Toronto PhD Philosophy via email ?

Admitted to DePaul for Fall 2021!!! So excited about this!
