In support of the #GRExit initiative, I would love to hear about your experience applying to programs: https://t.co/jEJWxBQZH4?amp=1

Now that we're getting closer to applications, how many programs are y'all applying to? My expectation is in the 10-12 range, although could go as high as 15. I'm worried about applying to fewer because of competitiveness. I would love to walk out of this cycle with an offer (who doesn't???), but if not, at least a few interviews.

I totally agree - the idea of going through the process again is so daunting, even without the added craziness of covid

Faculty from UC Irvine have announced a brand new clinical psychology program, accepting students for Fall 2021!

Hi everyone, I have a question.
I plan on reapplying to a few labs this year, one at which I was an alternate, one where I was waitlisted, and one where I was told I barely missed the cut (and to come back with more national/international posters). I had a decent amount of contact with them last year, so I'm just not sure how to reopen the conversation with them. Do I tell them what I've been up to this year to increase my competitiveness? Do I give them a heads up I'm reapplying and am still super interested in their labs? I am confident in my PI emails normally but these three are throwing me for a loop. Any advice is appreciated!

PSA to all program websites: make it easier to find faculty research interests and streamline your content! I am tired of having to scour sites for information about research interests, having to open a million tabs to sort through faculty, and finding faculty webpages with minimal to no information about their current research. It seems like it would be super easy to have one central webpage that has a brief research bio for each faculty member, right? Right?? Ugh. Anyways, end rant lol.

What's the best way to get you updates for this? CUNY/John Jay just announced all GREs are optional

I actually spoke with a faculty about the GRE situation - they said while many schools are starting to remove the requirement, the faculty still like to see the scores. They told me that a sneaky way to still report your scores is to add them to your CV under schools/GPA. Just a tip I thought I'd share!

Okay, I'm back to shamelessly self-promote, but only because I created something that I hope some of you could use! Last cycle I started to organize myself by using a spreadsheet for all application related materials. I put quite a bit of time into it, and thought it would be best if other people were able to get some use out of it as well. If you want to see my reasoning for including the tabs and columns you can read that here: https://www.thedailypsych.com/blog/organizing-yourself
If you prefer to skip the post and just make yourself a copy to see if you want to use it, you can go here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Tf77N8CTAS_S1VufvL5DqtZnOEqngJHyYid_QVPM6yc/copy?usp=sharing
Also let me know if you have a different way of organizing - I'm always looking for more tips on how to store program info!

What are everyone's thoughts on reaching out to PI's whose labs you had previously applied for, either as a grad student or a RA, but were ultimately rejected (not for any discernibly terrible reason)? Come fall it will be anywhere from .5 - 1.5 years since I had any contact with them/their lab. Kind of awkward, but I'd hate to remove some otherwise great fits from my list, and I'd like to start dropping some email feelers in a few months...any good ways to rebuild a connection? Or have I just inadvertently shot myself in the foot? ?

Not sure if it's frowned upon to shamelessly self-promote here, but I ended up starting a blog focused mainly on clinical psychology PhD admissions. I'm using it to organize helpful information I've been given and have stumbled upon, while also sharing resources I've created over the past few years. I'm by no means an expert, but I have some unique insight because I've been through this process a few times, and have grown exponentially each cycle. I've also been fortunate to have exceptional mentorship along the way, which I know not everyone has. I'm hoping what I post is helpful for at least one other person. First timers, it might be especially relevant for you!

As April 15th gets closer and closer, I'm feeling anxious but also sort of relieved. It's been such a long waiting game that no matter the outcome, I'm sure I'll feel better having an actual answer. I still have the tiniest glimmer of hope that some good news might come my way but it's unlikely. Ready to focus on next cycle and kick some butt!
Hope everyone is hanging in there!

I think that's it for this cycle for me. There's not really a point to this post other than maybe some kind of closure? I've checked this site countless times a day for so many months, but there's no need anymore, not right now anyway. But, I did want to say thank you to everyone who responded to my questions and everyone who has been so inspirational and kind. You all made my first process a little bit easier, so thank you. Might I even dare to say that I'll miss checking this site for awhile. Thank you all, please keep pushing, I am sincerely SO proud of all of you on this site. Go get those degrees!

Cross-posting from the waitlist thread:
When would you guys say it's appropriate to contact a school post-interview to see if you're on a waitlist (if at all)? If so, would you recommend contacting the DCT, your POI, or both?
It's been a little over 2 weeks after a few of the interviews I had and I've seen some offers extended from those programs, but have not been rejected either. Am wondering if I could be on the waitlist at at least one of those few, but none of the programs have contacted me about it. Should I reach out, or wait more?

Have people been hearing from UMASS Boston? I know someone posted but doesn’t seem like much activity - wondering whether tomorrow is the main day... hopefully

Right! It is so frustrating..... I wish I had the courage to say something! I could really use that $100 (or whatever it was) right about now for interview travel expenses!
