When Schools Released Earlier Last Year
havemybloodchild replied to stressedugrad's topic in Waiting it Out
Ohio State notified me I was waitlisted last year on the 29th; this year the acceptances have gone out but nothing about waitlists/rejections yet. I know it's only a couple of days but uuugggghhhhhhhh just tell me already, OSU! -

A professor of mine recommended I check out conferencemonkey.org too, so I thought I'd leave that here in case anyone else finds it useful. -
It's weird but my anxiety basically went away as soon as I heard back from my first school- a rejection no less- and now I feel at peace with whatever happens. Who even am I??? Hope ya'll feel better soon too! I don't miss the sensation of an elephant sitting on my chest every waking moment.

What was your writing sample?

Ahhhh has anyone read the article “Sounding Gay: Pitch Properties in the Speech of Gay and Straight Men”? I read it for a class and now there’s a documentary on the subject called “Do I Sound Gay” which I so recommend for anyone interested in construction/articulation of gender and sexuality in relation to speech/code switching/dialect. So good! This has a ton to do with my capstone project/one of my WS about gay men trying to abate femininity because it’s a threat to their privilege, among other things. -

@Bopie5 have you read any Suzanne Bost? Her work on pain and motherhood I think would really interest you. I’ll see if I can find the last article of hers I used to send to you, if you’re interested. -

2019 Acceptances

From what I can tell expectations for MA grades are quite different than those for BA. Like a 3.0 for MA is pretty not great, whereas a 4.0 is fairly typical. (correct me if I’m wrong, this is just what I’ve inferred from posts on this site) -

I think it's interesting how much longer it's taking Ohio to get rejections and wait lists out after acceptances this year compared to last year. It's like 4 days vs. 9+. I wonder why... -

I did it last year once or twice. If the results are late in coming (compared to previous years), I don't see a problem with dropping an email asking for a progress update, essentially. That's just my two cents. -

Any recommendations would be amazing, actually. I have a book about publication opps for poetry but it's pretty outdated. Also any advice on conferences would be super helpful too, I'm just starting to learn about them (thanks to the lovely people of GC). -
