  1. hello everyone!!! i'm a clinical psych grad student at university of miami. i was sharing this website with a friend who is applying and thought i'd poke around for the ~mems~ and maybe drop in with some info. i've seen a lot of the stuff on twitter about how competitive this years' applications are -- i can't imagine how that's making ya'll feel, so sorry if some of that messaging hasn't been super thoughtfully conveyed. BUT i wanted to say that, as a grad student, i know my PI and many of our faculty seem incredibly busy this year! our university, and i believe many others, pushed our semester up this year, meaning finals just wrapped for a lot of programs and many faculty are deep in the trenches of grading. that, on top of planning a virtual applicant weekend, on top of many programs reviewing faculty job apps for new diversity-geared positions, on TOP of the pandemic, might mean things are slower this year. i worked at another top 10 university prior to grad school and am still in touch with a clinical psych mentor there; they seem similarly swamped with new COVID-related studies, trying to get lab studies up and running again, etc. if anyone applied to the university of miami and wants to connect, feel free to message me! good luck to you all. my advice is to also try and get some rest now while you can, before interview invites start coming in and you have to hunker down again to prep for those. props to you all for applying in such crazy circumstances.
  2. OMG it's so funny you say that; I actually feel exactly the opposite -- it's so cheap in Miami compared to what I'm used to! I've lived in California for most of my life and am currently in the SF Bay Area so rent in Miami is pretty much half of what we pay on average here in California, yikes lol Obviously it's still not 'cheap' in Miami by any means, esp. considering the low stipends for most of these programs, but compared to other major cities with research universities (Bay Area and LA in CA, Boston, NY, Chicago, Austin, etc) I think it's not actually that bad! AND the airport is actually accessible/has some decently priced direct flights to the West Coast soooo that's also nice!
  3. I've just accepted an offer from University of Miami's Clinical Psych PhD Program (adult track). Feel free to message me if you'll also be attending Miami (or moving to Florida lol) and want to chat! And congrats to everyone -- yay, we're going to grad school!
  4. Hi all! I've been waitlisted at Pittsburgh (for pure Clinical). If anyone got an offer/is also waitlisted, I would love to touch base via DM!
  5. To the person who posted about a UMiami acceptance: first, congrats! Second, could you DM me? I was also accepted and would love to connect :)
  6. Yeah, same. I work with two mentors who have both said they're thrilled to be able to employ me for another year and have even alluded to helping me pay for apps next year since the cost of applying was/is a big limiting factor for me, which is soooo nice. But I'm still going through the silly "boohoo I'm just not smart enough" feelings. I'm hoping/trying to refocus that energy into gearing up to re-apply. Hope you manage to do the same (and that the February invite might still roll in!).
  7. If we haven't heard anything back yet, I'm thinking now is the time to start re-prioritizing for the year and focusing on re-applying next cycle -- anyone else have thoughts about this? This is my first time applying and I only applied to 7 schools, so I'm not necessarily expecting to even get interviews this round, but the not knowing if I should have heard yet is... stressful. Anyway, if anyone else is in the same boat, just offering ya'll some solidarity!
