  1. Thanks @silenus_thescribe, this is all really helpful--hoping more than ever to make it off the waitlist at UT!
  2. Hi all! I'm waitlisted at UT but it is currently my top choice. I'm really hoping the list moves but we will see. Does anyone have any insight into UT's placement rate? I've looked at the placement they publish on their website and it's somewhat disappointing although I recognize how difficult a time it is currently to find a tenure track job. Was just wondering if anyone had any additional info!
  3. One theory--in past years a few rejections came on the second day, (and it's possible that those were misreported because they weren't seen on the first day) so it's possible we are just at the end of the alphabet or something. My last name starts with "W" so it's possible. A more favorable theory--last year waitlist notifications went out after rejections. The ones I have read said that they were either waitlisted and invited to visit or "on a long waitlist" but admitted to the MA program (which I don't think is funded).
  4. I'm hoping this is the case--I have also heard nothing from Columbia and applied directly to the PhD, not the MA. I'm in the same boat with Boston College.
  5. @jr246 Last year they did right around this time, but some years a little later in the month. I'm also anxious to hear!
  6. This reminder actually gave me a little bit of peace at the end of a long day of grad admissions, especially since I'm spending about half of my time thinking of various backup plans. Thanks @emprof
  7. @kendalldinniene Happy Birthday!!!! Sucks to be worrying about admissions but I agree with @bardie, treat yourself! Wish we could all get together and celebrate and drink away just a few of our admissions sorrows. Time for good food and friends possibly an elevated BAC!
  8. Although it does say that the actual email came on the 11th, so it could still have been a rogue POI rather than the admissions committee. Am I delusional?
  9. @trytostay Congrats on NYU! I'm keeping my fingers crossed (probably in vain) to get the same kind of news. It's very thoughtful of you to let us know that more notifications are coming out later this week, thanks for saving us some anxiety--for now at least!
  10. Hi @Bopie5, thanks for the encouragement! Yes I have--I thought it was really good, but what else can you expect from Barry Jenkins. The movie's interpretation of the end of the novel was interesting. I liked Baldwin's as a reader but Jenkins' version is timely and probably speaks more personally to a lot of families who have similar stories. What'd you think of the movie?
  11. Posting a little late, but I heard a little while ago that I'm waitlisted at UT Austin for the English PhD. Really wish I knew where I am on the list (and would love to hear from anyone who has info about the UT list!) but I think I probably shouldn't ask about that so early. I'm getting worried that it may be the best news I'm receiving this spring after this first week or so of rejections and implied rejections. Still, plenty of time to go! And I would be absolutely thrilled to be at UT. 12. Hi all, just starting to post on the forum instead of just obsessively refreshing the results page. So I assume I'm rejected by Illinois U-C since I haven't heard. Same for Vanderbilt and Emory, but who knows. Really hoping for some good news soon, this is tough. (I did get waitlisted by UT, but I have no idea where I am on the list.) 13. First time posting on here, maybe a little late in the game. I graduated from UNC in May 2018 with a double major in English and Classics. I didn't know I wanted to do a PhD in English until I started my senior thesis on James Baldwin and so I'm giving it my best shot--I went a little overboard and applied to 17 schools. Not sure how attractive a white guy studying James Baldwin is to admissions committees, but we'll see! I think I have pretty strong numbers but I have no idea how to evaluate the strength of my writing sample and SOP. I'm definitely starting to get pretty worried about getting shut out across the board. Anyway, gradcafe is helping me to stay sane and also drive myself crazy so I thought I should introduce myself to everyone going through the same process!
