What up people.  I was accepted to the University of Maryland's MFA program last go around and have been there for the better part of 1 semester. 
Pros:
$18,000 total stipend with fellowship, TUITION IS FREE!!! Cool folks in the cohort right now, 10 total for all three years.
 
Cons:
this part of the united states sucks ass, but also that could just be my perspective.  You need a car if u wanna hit up Baltimore...DC seems hella stiff. Rent is about 650-1000 a month out here
As a brown dude from Texas I'm real disappointed with the lack of diversity in the program, it's just me n another grad out of 10 who are POC.  Also I've had some wack interactions with 2 faculty, that said there are some dope ass faculty and humans here.  
That said...if youre committed to ur studio practice and have a good self care routine, you'll do good out here.  Feel free to reach out if u have any questions

I wrote a poem for you all after a year of applications to grants/ open calls/ 2 interviews at VCU and RISD that resulted in a rejection and waitlisted status.     —————————————————————     We regretfully encourage you to apply to our online print institution with a cv, slideroom sacrifice, numbered explanations of your sense of criticality, and a brief statement explaining the origins of your rigor in contemporary practice.    Due to the volume of applicants we will be unable to tell you wether you were selected or not. Damn, just got rejected by UCI and I am starting to realize how much a blessing rejection is.  Getting comfortable with that seems like it'll be a super power.  Shout out to all those with rejection in their emails, gonna get bulletproof

I didn't have much dough for apps, so I just applied to 4, but it has been a waaaay different and much more stressful experience than I anticipated.
So far:
Outright rejection from CMU (not a surprise, I guess, as it is a long-shot, but one of my recs has close ties there  and a lot of confidence in my work) An early interview with UARK (I then totally fell in love with their department, I thought the interview went really well and I was a bit excited)--followed by a rejection. No word yet from UCONN or Sam Fox...but I must say, my confidence for an acceptence has dwindled... But that article is helping me keep my confidence in my work up!! 
And, yes, I cried at the UARK rejection. Went for a hike. Took a bubble bath. Etc. Etc.
Today, I'm trying to focus on current projects and future steps...

Well put, and yes, this process sucks. I really underestimated how stressful it would be. Hang in there! 
I just went for a walk in a nearby nature preserve and made a bunch of photos. It felt great to make a lot of new work and be alone in the tranquilty of those woods. I might try to keep making work to distract me from the waiting.

I am not sure if they'd have separate committees for different concentrations.. it wouldn't hurt to call/email and ask them!!
