I'll probably end up at the Travel Lodge. Thanks for the help, everyone.

If I don't get into 1 of my 8 programs I will blame balderdash.

For those of you attending MPSA in April, where are you staying? My program doesn't have money for me to go, but I'd like to be able to present my paper. Any thoughts on something cheaper within walking distance to the venue?

The trailer looked unbelievably beyond awful, but I feel like I should give it a chance. Can't find it anywhere, though.

I try to work out as much as possible and read non-academic books Working 8-5 helps, too.

It most likely is on their part. My Northwestern app took a week or two to reflect new changes.

What if I got a lower GRE score the second time
blaspheming replied to rogerfed's topic in Political Science Forum
Duke took my new verbal and quant scores, and my old 2008 AW score. So, some schools will mix and match, but I'm not sure how common this is. -
I always assumed my master's GPA would be unimportant in the application process. I was talking to a professor from a top-20 university who said, and I quote, "Your master's GPA is what matters for this application. The fact that you completed your master's program with a 4.0 means you are fully capable of doing graduate-level work, and I wouldn't give your undergrad grades much weight." I'm not sure if that's a common view among different institutions. Hope this helps a bit.

Depends on the program. Some just want things postmarked by that date, others have a specific time listed, others are not specific. I would email the programs in question just for verification.

Yes, they expect a certain percentage to decline their offer. It fluctuates year to year, but overall remains the same.

I have my BA and MS in environmental studies and I'm in the midst of applying to PhD programs. I'm also on the social science side of this field and had to make a decision about what types of programs to target. I've decided to apply to 6 political science programs and 2 interdisciplinary programs. Just to add to your list, here are a few more interdisciplinary programs (I applied to the first two): Duke - Environmental Policy PhD (political science or economics track) UC Davis - Graduate Group in Ecology (Environmental Policy and Human Ecology emphasis) UC Santa Cruz - Environmental Studies PhD University of Colorado Boulder - Environmental Studies PhD University of Oregon - Environmental Studies PhD SUNY-ESF - Several environmental graduate degrees

Application done, email to Professor in Science...
blaspheming replied to klkrey2's topic in Waiting it Out
My plan is to e-mail all of the professors that I've been in contact with and let them know that my application has been submitted, etc. One of them told me to do that so he could "put in an informal recommendation," so I figure it couldn't hurt with the others. -
Any third batch GRE takers out there? (Oct. 3 - Oct. 15)
blaspheming replied to Missy91's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
I took it in 2008 and got a 5.0, but I got a 4.5 this time around. Thought I did better, too. Bummer. -

Haha I don't know, but it's terrible. I got high hopes and applied to higher ranked programs based on my scores. -

Our scores are almost the same (with much different estimates). Verbal: 162, 90% --> 640 (estimate: 680-780) Quant: 156, 74% --> 720 (estimate: 670-770) AW: 4.5, 72% 1360 on the old scale, my predicted range was 1350-1550. -

I don't think any third batchers got scores yet, but I'm also hoping that they'll be up around 8 or 9 tonight. -
It was down from 7-8pm PST last night and tonight also, so I don't think it means much. If they're going to be a week early (like the others), then tomorrow night looks likely.

Someone said contradicting information? :-)
blaspheming replied to NoMoreABD's topic in Applications
It says pretty clearly that it's Lance Freeman. For the record, THIS is the worst academic website I've seen: http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~dss4/EnviroHome.htm -
Mine changed as well, good catch!

Interesting that you're in the third batch and already have your scores. What are you up to, ETS!
