Registered Behavior Technician- the 411
speech97 replied to speech97's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
That's awesome! Thank you so much for your post! -
Hi! I see a lot of people on forums talk about RBT’s so I was wondering if anyone can talk about their experience working as one. How do you get this kind of job? Does it give you any insight on speech pathology in any way? Is it good to have on your resume for grad school? Any information is appreciated! I haven’t heard of it prior and I’m intrigued.

Different jobs for grad students
speech97 replied to aaaslp's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
That’s a pretty decent rate to receive and the flexibility is a huge plus. I would stick with it if I were you but you shouldn’t be miserable doing one thing just for the money! Definitely look for something around the same pay and flexibility and if you can’t then at least you can say that you tried! Good luck! Additionally- I work at a Sunday respite program for children with developmental disabilities and that’s all I do. (Not in grad school yet) It’s the same pay. If it isn’t about the money for you I’d maybe look for something similar like that! -
Unprofessional to call schools about decisions?
speech97 replied to speech97's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I think I might notify them the day before the 15th deadline. Thanks guys! -
I know I’m anxious to know the decision already. I wasn’t sure if calling would maybe hurt me in any way but I think I might give them a call a few days before the 15th and see. Thanks!

Help!! Online Prereq Courses??
speech97 replied to peachie_speechie10's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I am not sure about the fluency course- but Lehman College (NY) offers a few speech courses online and over the summer as well. Hope that helps! -
Congrats on getting into the programs! Do you mind sharing your stats? I am interested in NYU but not sure if my stats are good enough! ?
-
I would also like to know! Do you know how long their clinical is? I live in NYC so I'm wondering if I would have to move or how often I would need to go to attend the clinical portion?

Like @speech72 said, for the most part they will place you in the Bronx or wherever they decide to change it to. I was considering applying until I saw that they will be placing you rather than giving you a few options to choose from. 4 years isn't a short commitment but if you're willing to do it, their page offers a lot of information. Definitely check it out!

ONLINE SUMMER PREREQUISITES
speech97 replied to Anna Wang's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Lehman College (NY) offers online courses in the summer. -
Hi! I see that you applied to Touro- did you happen to hear anything from them yet?
-
I've spoken to two people who said they literally had to quit their jobs because they had no time for work and the programs are too intense. One of them I know from work- which is just at a Sunday respite program that runs every other Sunday (so not really that much of a job). This other girl that attends Lehman told me many people in her program can not even work part-time because it was too intense. However, adding on to what others are saying- there are online tutoring jobs that are flexible and a means of earning extra cash. At the end of the day it depends on the person and how they juggle everything. Hopefully you are able to figure it out! Good luck!

Lehman College offers a bunch of pre-reqs online. Currently taking some- both online and in person in my last semester of undergrad. I would recommend!

St. John's University vs. Hofstra University
speech97 replied to LaLa22's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I know a girl who is currently at St. John's and although the program is intense and her days are long- she said she really loves it. My doctor also had only good things to say about St. John's as well (his wife is an SLP and they wanted her to teach at the university). However- I've heard that Hofstra is really hard to get into and that they have great professors. Both great options so congratulations! -

Unprofessional to call schools about decisions?

I am not sure what to do. Seems reasonable with April 15th coming up- but also I do not want to hurt myself by doing so. It's just frustrating! -
Has anyone heard back from Touro College?
speech97 posted a topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
It's April now and I have not heard back from Touro yet. Aside from one poster who has gotten accepted- I have not seen any other posts about whether people got accepted or not. Is there anyone out there who has heard back? -

Hi! When did you find out you got accepted to Touro? Did you have to do an interview? And how were you notified? Also congratulations on your acceptance! -
Touro College Interview

There are barely any forums on Touro College unfortunately. I would like to know this too! Did you have yours yet? How was it?
