  1. I feel this - the school that I've been favoring is in a college town and wouldn't be somewhere that I'd want to be long-term BUT the students all seemed like they loved the program and their mentors. The students made me want to be a part of the program and that culture.
  2. I've never heard anything about UMN-Duluth even having a program to be honest. However, I've heard pretty good things about MSU Mankato's program - I almost applied there myself.
  3. I haven't decided what school yet but I do know I will be attending a Ph.D. program this fall! I've been traveling as much as my full-time job allows. working on some passion projects (YouTube and blogging), and reading books for fun (I'm a sucker for YA fiction). As well, I just preordered the Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch, so I intend on wasting as much time as possible playing that and Stardew Valley. Basically, I'm going to do very little to prepare myself for grad school besides my duties in my research lab that I volunteer/work in part-time. I just want to enjoy my time off and live as much as possible.
  4. I'm not sure of any official rankings but I have heard good things about University of Waterloo, University of Western Ontario, University of Guelph, and University of Calgary.
  5. O Out of my top 3, I was accepted to 1, am waiting on funding decisions (which will determine my acceptance) at 1, and waitlisted at 1 - so at this point, I've been declining and withdrawing my app for any other interviews. For example, my safety masters program reached out - so I declined so that they could offer someone else. I had a phone interview with one program and then they invited me to their visit weekend which I declined so their resources weren't wasted on me, since I know I wouldn't choose this program over one of my top 3. It's great to have options but also be respectful and realistic in this process. You (and they) only have so much time and resources. Be mindful of where you truly see yourself and if you would go to the program if you had other options.
  6. Hey! I just visited DePaul this past weekend when it was close to -20C/0F and I wore dress pants with a polka dot blouse. I chose to wear dress shoes but I didn't walk outside that much tbh. Definitely bring gloves and a heavy winter jacket - I would skip a hat until after your visit bc hat hair is a thing haha.
  7. it says the excel sheet is unavailable!
  8. Could you give more details about your current/past research experiences and some more of your stats? DM if you don't feel comfortable sharing on the forum
  9. yep !!! was told early last week that i was nominated for a fellowship and approved by the department. but now they have to get it approved by the university and that's going to take 3-4 weeks, so i won't hear until early march... the wait will kill me!
  10. hiiii this thread has been dead but as a potential aggie, i have some questions! how difficult is it to find a job in the area if you aren't a student? moving with my bf who has a BS in management information systems and am concerned he might have to move to austin or dallas to get a job. second, looking for *updated* apartment recommendations for one bedrooms! more specifically, close to campus, allows cats, washer & dryer inside are our priorities. price isn't that much of an issue, just looking for under $1000 a month
  11. loving the good vibes on here! wishing everyone luck.
  12. ok, so it sounds like *cautious* optimism is the best right now ?
  13. is it a good sign if a school i interviewed at hasn't accepted me yet but told me that they nominated me for a fellowship and are waiting to hear back?
  14. if i get any interviews, i plan on keeping my nose ring in. i've had it for 5 years at this point and have never taken it out. i wouldn't want to go to a program that would hold a nose piercing against me. it's 2020 and if any field should understand that tattoos and piercings aren't predictors of success / failure in grad school, it's psychology.
  15. Wow, crickets on here! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. Other threads are updating all the time but our's seems slower than normal this year.
  16. everyone please enjoy your holidays (if you celebrate) or your days off of work/school (if you have them!) - we can rest easy that it is unlikely we will hear anything for at least a couple of days, so no need to keep refreshing your inboxes! ❤️
  17. hiiiii i'm also SO stressed and no one is talking on my program's thread (IO) and there's only been a couple of updates about decisions on the results page (not from any schools i applied to) so all i'm hearing is crickets and i feel v v v alone right now. to distract myself i've been working on some hard skills like learning R (hard) and my side business (blog / youtube)! hope everyone has great plans for the holiday!
  18. Congrats! I applied to PSU too I'm also prepared for a second application cycle, so I feel your pain. Here's to hoping though!
  19. Finished all of my PhD applications - now I just need to basically rewrite my personal statement for the MS at SDSU. Trying to get it done today or tomorrow so I can get it off my plate before Thanksgiving!
  20. It definitely seems as if your background shows that you have a dedicated interest in and aptitude for research! What are your topics of interest?
  21. The full thing is in one of my first posts on this thread, but a quick blurb is Psych BA minors in leadership and sociology, 3.66 overall GPA, 3.94 jr/sr GPA, 3.98 psych GPA, 2.5 years of research assistant experience, 1 year departmental honors thesis that I received a grant for as well as presented and published (at my university), GRE Q 156 V 160 AW 5.0 (weak spot), 3-4 strong letters of recommendation However, I'm applying knowing that I have slim chances at Penn, Depaul, and Rice, medium chances at TAMU, Portland, and Baruch, and better chances at FIU, GWU, and SDSU - these assumptions are solely based off of GRE and GPA though.
  22. Officially applied to two schools - aiming to get the other two December 1st deadline applications done by Friday! I'll be trying to apply to about 3 a week 11/11 - 11/24 which is pretty nerve-wracking. It's pretty quiet in this thread but hoping others join in as applications start getting submitted. Good luck to whoever is reading out there!
