This one was a wild ride from start to finish. Hope the OP is okay, but the "yeet" kills me.

"Second rejection... Acceptances will start coming soon, right?"
So depressing...

Same. Oh hey! I'm from the Bay Area too and also an Anthropology student! ? I moved to Arizona exactly a year ago though and have applied to ASU and UofA.
I've been going insane checking my e-mail, university portals, every time my phone rings my heart immediately starts to race, and it's all I think about. At least I'll know about one decision soon since ASU is supposed to send out admission decisions next week (per an e-mail last month from the graduate coordinator). Which is exciting, but at the same time, if I am rejected, I will be absolutely crushed.

I can't stop checking gradcafe and my email obsessively every few hours.
I don't know why I torture myself like this. Comparing myself with others getting decisions doesn't make my application get considered faster or anything...
I'm literally giving myself anxiety.
Ditto on the checking my email the first thing I wake up, crusty eyes and all...

Thank you @masthana, your tips helped a lot!
I also want to share some questions from the interview with UCSC anthro.
1. Why PhD in anthropology?
2. How did your research interest shift from your past research?
3. What are some big questions that can be drawn from your research?
4. Why UCSC?
Then I was asked about the scholarship I'm receiving and also to ask them questions.

Hi all,
Since January has started...interview season is about to commence! I thought it'd be nice to have an easy place to see interview tips for Anthropology students specifically (especially since there are so many threads about interview tips to read through on GradCafe).
Feel free to post questions/tips/your upcoming interviews!
Best of luck to all of us! ❤️

Here are the questions I got from my POI from UCSD Anthro. She asked a few questions I didn't anticipate so I thought this would make a great heads-up for folks!
1. Tell me about yourself and your work. How did you become interested in this topic?
2. I can see the continuities between your last research work and your current proposed research, but they're still different. Can you explain your shift and why?
3. Your work reminded me of X author. How does your work relate to them? How does it contribute to the broader __ studies?
4. Does this X current event happening in your region of interest change your project? (in my case, intense protests that suddenly erupted in my country of interest.)
5. Why Anthropology? (It seems like you could do well in different fields.)
6. What's the most inspiring piece of ethnography/anthropology you've ever read?

Congrats! Their program is top notch! I didn't apply to that program at UCSC but I know it's a great program. Good luck!

There are quite a lot of threads for sample questions but here are the ones I got from my POI for a Psychological/Medical Anthropology PhD from UCSD. She requested an interview 5 days after I submitted that school's application, which was CRAZY! Turned out that she liked to interview her "top candidates" (woot!) before the committee even meets in late Jan.
1. Tell me about yourself and your work. How did you became interested in this topic?
2. I can see the continuities between your last research work (in my case, she was talking about my undergraduate thesis which I got published) and your current proposed research, but they're still different. Can you explain your shift and why?
3. Your work reminded me of X author. How does your work relate to them? How does it contribute to the broader __ studies?
4. Does this X current event happening in your region of interest change your project? (in my case, intense protests that started up 2 months ago in my country of interest.)
5. Why Anthropology? (It seems like you could do well in different fields.)
6. What's the most inspiring piece of ethnography/anthropology you've ever read?
Cheers!

I am also losing my mind over these applications. I applied to nine schools, received one rejection today and can't help but obsess over what I might have been able to do better. Should I have been in more contact with POIs and current grad students? Should I have been more specific in my proposed areas of research? Am I waiting for something that is completely out of reach? Can't wait to hear back from all of them. What a grueling process this is!

Thank you for starting this thread!
I will check in because I have benefited so much from the threads made in previous years. First time PhD applicant. Applying to four PhD programs in social / socio-cultural anthropology, and one program in medical anthropology. Here to commiserate and offer support!
