  1. Honestly I think about moving and working abroad more often than not. I haven't even tried the masters route yet (however this is my second phd cycle) but I've been working in a research lab for two years JUST secured a paid position there, but I'm not sure I can do another year of this lol (building up my cv for a third round of phd apps) At this point one of my back up plans is moving to Ios greece and working under the table as a bartender
  2. There are definitely benefits!!! I’m fortunate where I don’t have to worry about my GPA but I do know it could potentially mean more experience overall!! I’m definitely going to look into these programs! Thank you!!
  3. oh this put things into perspective for me ahahaha last year I skipped out on applying to masters because I wanted to save money and who wants to be in debt????, but this year i just feel so desperate to be back in school and I've been feeling like a masters is my only option to remove this feeling of being stuck in limbo if I don't get into a PhD program, however....that probably isn't the case and you reminded me of that!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Definitely do not cut your hair unless it’s a personal decision. I haven’t had long hair in years but I’m partial to low pony tails. They’re easy and I think they look very professional
  5. I understand ??? it’s my second round and I’m applying to 7 more than last cycle. best of luck to you ❤️❤️❤️
  6. Last year I got an interview at my undergrad uni that’s only 40 minutes away from my home town. I ended up being waitlisted but there’s hope for you!!
  7. SEVENTEEENNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. I agree with you! My original top choice fell out of my good graces because they changed who's accepting students 3 weeks before apps were due (I had been planning to submit since AUGUST, still applying but whatever), my POI never responded to any of my emails, however the DCT would reply but every interaction I had was just so.....off. I was fortunate to find out about another program (through this site actually!) and since then it's become my top choice and I've had wonderful conversations with my POI AND the DCT has been so extremely helpful.
  9. I applied to 9 schools....this mean I'll have to check the results page for 9 different schools........and I'll probably do that every single day....... ?
  10. PLS EMAIL ME WITH UPDATES EVEN THO I SUBMITTED MY APP THIRTY SECONDS AGO
  11. You can download a pdf report of your scores! I'm almost positive this is what they mean. When you're on ETS and you're looking at your scores it should be in the upper right hand corner. It's a blue button with white lettering! When you download it you may or may not run into a problem where it's a secure pdf. When that happened to me I just googled how to unlock it so that I could submit it!
  12. I had a few issues like this with various schools! I just emailed the graduate program and they always fixed it for me right away!
  13. I'm applying to a bunch of PhD programs in the US, but I also plan on applying to MA/MS programs in europe/Australia and I feel so lost in the process! Do you just apply normally as an international applicant, wait to hear back, AND THEN that's when you worry about Visa stuff?
  14. Last year I could drive to my one interview I didn’t even think about travel expenses! I always assumed they flew you out ??
  15. just casually complaining about all the money spent during this application season. ),: 27 dollars to send additional score reports????? 10 dollars to send transcripts from my undergraduate university????? Application fees??????????? I understand the 'reason' behind all of these, but it doesn't make it less sucky LMAO
  16. I didn’t apply either but I just checked and that’s a lot of interview updates?? Also MAYBE I’m paranoid but that seems suspicious so many commentless entries
  17. Has anyone ever successfully emailed back and forth with a POI? Is it actually a big deal? I've been speaking with my top choice on and off for a couple of days and I don't want to put too much stock into it lol.
  18. Here’s to us!!!!!
  19. Rowan university!
  20. You're right! I think I'm being pessimistic LOL. This tells me that I should be more worried about my horrible budgeting skills than requesting money from FAFSA HAHAHA
  21. What is the SHHRC? I KNOW if any of us get admitted we'll also be receiving stipends/free tuition, but honestly 15-20k a year (which honestly is a range I have no idea what actual grad students at specific schools make a year) is extremely hard to live on?????
  22. Last year my GRE scores were V: 148 Q: 142 and AW: 4 and I got one interview where they later on wait-listed me. And it was the only school I applied to. I also had less than a year of research experience. However my research matched the POI really well. This year only my V score is better and my AW score is literally a 2.5. I chose to send both scores to all the schools I'm applying. I've also gotten in touch with graduate coordinators and most of them have told me they look at applications holistically and GRE's are only one, less important piece of the app.
  23. I'm sure I could ask this question elsewhere, but I'm genuinely curious what you guys think. At what stage do you guys apply for fellowships/scholarships/grants/financial aid? I read somewhere online that you should apply for FAFSA as soon as you submit your application... honestly I'm lost on the money situation lol
  24. I'm cracking up! I also imagined what life would be like living there, what apartments I'd like to live in, how much it would cost to ship my stuff there LOL. We're all definitely living the same admissions process existence *cries* And your partner sounds wise, but why do they have to be right!!! It's hard not to get caught up! I'm ready to lead the life I day dreamed about LOL
  25. That's a good call! I honestly didn't think of reaching out to anyone currently in the lab. I'm going to do that right now!
