  1. Just declined LIU Brooklyn, Francis Marion University and Iona college. I’ll be going to SUNY Plattsburgh!!
  2. I’m just looking through different forums and posts, but you can email them. They understand we are all anxious for our decisions. I’ve contacted different programs asking when decisions would be out. I start off with saying I understand about the virus and I hope them and their family are in good health then I ask my question or anything else.
  3. Do you know if only those who received an interview are accepted?
  4. I am glad you started this topic because i am between schools too. one is more expensive than the other but i prefer the location of the second school. I will most likely choose the cheaper school because i have grown up with a family who does not have much and i want to be able to pay off my loans quickly and enjoy life after school. I went to a good undergrad for my area so i know sometimes a "name" can help get jobs, but i also know the way you interview matters a lot too. you should see if any companies near Northwestern have an association with them so you get discounted tuition or get a job that pays for some of your tuition. when i was going to do ABA i found a company that had a partnership with a college in boston (can't remember which one) and the tuition was very discounted and admissions was a bit easier because of that partnership. I've been looking for scholarships too and you should see if your state has any. I',m reading through studentaid.gov right now and they have scholarship information. I'm looking to work while in school and live off campus after my first semester to save money. after school i'll probably live with roommates since i'm not looking to stay in my old town with my parents.
  5. I wish my parents had learned Spanish from their parents but sadly they did not. I’ve always wanted to be competent in Spanish but besides school and what little my parents know, I’m not where I’d like to be. I’m going to see if I can find any books that explicitly talk about grammar since that’s my weakest point. Vocabulary I’m good with but when I’m speaking to friends and they start conjugating those verbs.....I’m done for haha. If I find any good books that are nice and simple but effective I’ll let you know! And I’ll be trying Duolingo. Thanks for all the suggestions! I really want to take these next two years to become bilingual and help bilingual children. I was looking to get into a master’s program that had a bilingual extension so I could kind of poke my head in and ask questions and what not but so far none of the schools I was accepted into has one.
  6. I applied to 13! If I could go back I’d do maybe 6-7 but I wanted to make sure I spread my wings wide and got in my first try. I’ve heard too many stories of people waiting years to get into a specific school and while I had a top 5, I would’ve gone anywhere. I think you have a good amount picked out. Good luck!!

    Stony Brook, NY

I went to stony brook for undergrad (As a bio and psychology major) and I live close to the area so I commuted. The train is about $28ish to get to penn there and back. You can look on lirr42.mta.info for more information. Undergrad wise I wasn’t a fan of the school because I had to teach myself a lot of the material. That’s not to say the professors weren’t good some were. The TAs were amazing and always willing to help (I learned majority from them for my bio major). My friends who decided to continue on to their masters like it better with the smaller classes. It’s more personal. There’s not much to do around stony brook but that’s Long Island in general. It’s not an up and coming town it’s very quiet and so are the surrounding areas. Most people went to NYC or had parties in their dorms. I hope this helped some!
  8. I wanted to complete a bilingual extension but I know I’m not ready to do so. I still struggle a lot with conversational Spanish and I’d feel more comfortable waiting. So, I’ve been practicing with friends and family so I am ready to complete an extension after I become a monolingual SLP. What are some programs you guys chose? Are any of them online? Also, if any of you aren’t native speakers what helped you in learning conversational Spanish? Thank You!!
  9. I’m still waiting to hear back from 4 schools. 3 NYC schools and 1 PA school.
  10. For me the stress has been getting to me. I’m concerned about family but also about school. I have money saved so I can pay to secure my spot but one school wanted $500 and that’s a lot since I am not working. I’ve had a clear idea of how I wanted grad school to play out and now that won’t happen. I’m a planner so I’ve just had to say whatever happens happens. It has already taken me 3yrs post BA to figure out what I really wanted to do and work for it. I’d like to start my program in the fall but I also don’t want to be at risk or put people at risk.
  11. This is something I’ve been worried about since I know I do better with in person learning. Right now I live with family who have compromised immune systems so it’s been so stressful along with being out of work. Stay safe everyone.
  12. I should’ve guessed it would be lol I need to fill out mine too. Maybe after that we’ll see if we get aid from the school.
  13. Oh really??!! Wow I always thought it was low. I see so many people with higher GPAs that I always figured I was on the lower side. Even people I’ve talked to ,that I know , they have such higher GPAs that I didn’t think I’d get into a program. I wish I had known this before because I was a complete mess already planning on retaking classes. Seeing so many people post their results with almost perfect GPAs was daunting. And congrats on your acceptances!!
  14. I was an out of field applicant with a lower major GPA of 3.4ish and didn’t do that well on my GRE either but I got into 2 schools so far. To say I’m shocked is an understatement but I think what really helped was my work experience and recommendation letters. I got one from a social worker, special needs preschool teacher and speech pathologist. I worked in special needs preschools, special needs after school programs, and became a registered behavior tech in training. Tbh everything I’ve done career wise has been in preparation for grad school. I did want to learn some ABA but I knew it’d set me apart from others. Working at a preschool for almost 3yrs was amazing. It’s where I discovered my love for speech my final year of college and where I saw the application of everything I learned. One school I got into I know I did well on the interview and just poured my heart out in my essays. This whole process has taught me sometimes it’s just the luck of the draw. I didn’t get into my safety school that was more relaxed with the grades. I also didn’t get into my top schools. Make sure you apply all over and just go for it! I’m sure you’ll get in next time!
  15. No I didn’t! I was wondering if it was like undergrad and we were supposed to get our acceptance and possible funding all in one email. It would make the decision so much easier. For me I don’t need to stay close to home but it would be nicer and it’s closer to NYC which I wanted to be. Have you looked into any apartments near campus? I’m hoping they are a bit cheap.
  16. I’m from Long Island so I was thinking about commuting but I know I don’t have it in me to do so. If I end up accepting their offer I’m going to try and stay as close to campus as possible. Did you get an aid offer with your acceptance? Location wise it’s where I want to be but cost wise I’m struggling.
  17. Took myself off the waitlist for Western Carolina university, university of Redlands and Edinboro University. I might be declining Iona college or SUNY Plattsburgh but I’m waiting on a few more schools first and aid.
  18. I just got in and I’m interested in learning more too. I wanted to visit when they had their open house but now that’s not possible. I need to know about aid too.
  19. I did my post BA at longwood university and I got into a master’s program. No one looked at my courses as though they were less than because it was online. I say look into Eastern New Mexico university because I know they are cheap and offer a lot of courses. When I applied for them they kept saying they didn’t get my transcripts in the mail so I gave up and just did longwood. I like longwood (I’m still doing one class) because they explain everything well and the professors are always willing to help and even do phone calls. They aren’t the most challenging but set the foundation and I actually like the discussion questions because I’m big on real world application plus I like reading scientific papers so. I say pick a nice cheap program and get your courses done and apply to grad school.
  20. I’ve taken all my courses at longwood university. I honestly like the professors and the courses. They are really helpful. I struggle with online classes because I’m more of a face to face learner but all my professors have no problem emailing me back or even talking on the phone.
  21. Hi! I was considering applying there. I started the application but didn’t finish it. Of course location-wise I wanted to go there, but What do you like about the program?
  22. Congrats!! I did too and I’m interested in knowing also!
