  1. Hi, is anyone on here currently at the MA program at UVA, or know someone who is / was going there in the past? I can't seem to find much information about where UVA MA students end up going after they graduate (whether that is a PhD program or a job) and would love to know, in addition to the size of the program (how many accepted / how many enroll per year). I am also curious about the benefits or disadvantages of attending this program, other than the obvious (no funding). How would PhD programs view this degree, including UVA's PhD program? Is it a plus for PhD admission because the candidate would have more depth & focus in their research interests? or potentially a minus because: it might signal that I couldn't gain entry into UVA's PhD program (or other PhD programs) initially for UVA specifically, they may not accept their MA students into their PhD program-- I know most PhD programs don't accept candidates who earned their BA there, so I wondered if this would be a similar case For context, I went to a top ten US university for undergrad (top five english department) so I wondered how much the MA would improve my potential for PhD admission, as opposed to just applying again next year with my BA. I would really appreciate any advice! Very lost :')
  2. johns hopkins, what about you? I don't think it's a mandatory thing at all, just something I chose to do. unless they directly asked you if you're still interested in which case you should respond!
  3. does anyone know what one should do when waitlisted (other than confirming that I'm still interested)? like is there any way to appeal to the department further?? any thoughts would be appreciated. desperate haha :')
  4. ahh okay thank you for your responses! my anxiety is killing me haha :')
  5. schools would normally only email results till around 6pm right? as in they wouldn't be emailing in the evening during non business hours? asking for a friend lol
  6. Thank you! and yeah same... let's hope for the best haha
  7. hi guys, does anyone know if stanford is interviewing every potentially accepted candidate or just some? I saw that a few people posted about receiving interview invites.
  8. does anyone have concrete info about whether any other ivy / ivy adjacent schools / berkeley & UCLA are reducing cohort sizes like UChicago? UChicago was one of my top choices so it's really disappointing to hear they're only accepting about 5 : ((( are people still hoping to apply this cycle? or am I better off waiting until next year?
  9. hi, just wondering, is anyone taking the literature subject test? unsure if I should use my time to study for it and take it or to work on my other app materials.
  10. Hi, first time poster, I was just wondering if anyone is taking the literature subject test this year... I know not a lot of schools ask for it these days but there are a few programs I want to apply to that require it. If you are, would you be taking it in September, or in October? (I'm worried that the October scores wouldn't reach my schools because it seems like the scores come out late november and the deadlines are in the first week of December)
