Just got an expected rejection from BU! Fit wasn’t great.
I'm sorry!
Just curious: how do you determine not great fit? For me, it's how much shoe-horning I had to do with my statement of purpose in order for my candidacy to make sense for the department.

I tried to call the department last week with no answer. Maybe try the graduate school?
It doesn't hurt to try. My guess is they will just tell you to call the department.

Literally a jump-scare for me.
Wow! Congrats on a third acceptance!

which region?
Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard. At Columbia, they have one master's program for Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies.

Hi! I see in your signature that you listed Harvard and Columbia as back up masters programs. Which courses exactly?
Regional/Area Studies.

And I concur, @animal_whisperer. I'm not taking any of these decisions personally. There are many paths to a meaningful life and a Ph.D is only of them.

you think today?
I think within the next week. I have no evidence for this - just my foreboding!

Where all did y'all apply?
Princeton, Yale, Georgetown, Cornell, NYU, and Rochester for Ph.D in Political Science.
I also applied to Master's programs at Harvard and Columbia in case I'm totally shut out in Ph.D admissions.
Re: the Master's program. If any of you have 100K+ in student loans, I would love to chat via private message about your experience.

Because it's just clutter. We're here to read valuable information about the admission process.
Tell me if this is wrong.
I don't think it's clutter. It helps with my anxiety, and a reminder that there are other things to life than just graduate admissions.

If past years are an indication, Princeton acceptances should be coming this week and rejections sometime next.

I think this is going to be a bad year for me. I expected the number of applications to jump, but if departments are also substantially reducing the number of places....

claiming a rice rejection as well,, welp
all of this discussion about northwestern not being done sending out acceptances gives me some hope.. but the wisconsin decisions cancel that out i guess lol
0a/1r/11pThis is my first year, but I believe it's generally a mistake to infer from a rejection anything about your chances at other programs. It's totally idiosyncratic.

I believe the Princeton results are fake, certainly the rejections. I applied and there is simply no way I will be admitted. Since there is no decision on ApplyWeb for me, I am inclined to believe these are trolls.

I don't mean to contribute negativity and fatalism, but I just wanted to briefly bid farewell to the thread. Although I haven't received any decisions yet, the consistent reports of Ph.D programs receiving twice (sometimes more) the number of applicants they ordinarily do has me feeling quite down and resigned to striking out this year, especially considering that some departments have also cut their intake. My profile is good but by no means the crème de la crème or anything close to that. If I'm going to do this again, I will need to apply to many more programs than I did this time.
In the meantime, I need put myself in the proper head space to really think about alternative options for next year. If I get a surprise admit, I will be sure to pop back in. But I suspect I won't!
Best of luck to everyone!
