thejorts reacted to bubblebath in Am I too incompetent for research?
Thank you so much for your response! I really appreciate it. I wasn't sure if I am in a toxic environment or not because I technically am not a student anymore and should be held to a higher standard, but I really still feel very inexperienced because to me this is still a new lab environment. I have had multiple lab experiences before and was never in this kind of position before. If others are interested in giving me other feedback, please feel free!

God, it sounds like the lab you're working in is so toxic. As a current undergrad working in a lab, I promise you not all research labs are like this. The lab I'm in is so understanding and has never once made me feel not competent (even though I ask dumb questions sometimes and make mistakes, because humans make mistakes and we don't deserve to get yelled at for such minor things)-- I want to make it clear that I am not a research-y person by any means and while I personally don't believe I'm cut out for research, the lab I'm in has never contributed to this feeling in any way. My advice is to find a different lab (if possible) with a better, non-toxic work environment. If you still feel not cut out for research in this new environment without being yelled at or put down, I'd say it's just not for you and that's okay. But right now, any reasonable person would feel incompetent with the way that you're being treated-- it's not you, it's THEM.

SSHRC storytellers was released this week, and SSHRC post-doc was recently released, I think. PhD SSHRC has not been released, yet.

Pfewww. That makes sense. Of course there are multiple SSHRC awards that people are hearing about. At this stage my brain has frozen and can't make logical observations LOL. I just NEED April to be over already LMAO in tears & misery.

Yes, I've not received the extranet instructions email and I assume (hope?) others have not either. Based on reading last year's thread, we should receive another email, likely next week, giving us access to the extranet, followed by yet another email notifying us that our results have been posted. However, some people last year found their results posted on the extranet before they received the notification email.

The important thing to remember is that if you do get accepted, it's merit-based and you absolutely deserve it. If you're rejected, it's just luck, arbitrary, political, etc., so don't worry about it!

This has been the lesson throughout my PhD as well. Sometimes it ends well and sometimes you just get another shot at it. It's so hard to separate your self-worth from arbitrary accomplishments and merit scholarships though! lol

Thanks for sharing. I feel the same way. Glad to have this forum to commiserate. I'm a 4th year and going into my 5th, so either way I'm motoring along. Under promise and over deliver!

Yeah, that is the trap! It's so tempting to look for an easy fix on the inside because the internal work is much more painstaking and takes way longer! ? But what I've also learned from 6 years or so of grad school and grant apps is that pinning my self-worth on these apps is actually what is the most painstaking. Getting to a point of rather doing the internal work ?
Felt like sharing this here, sorry it's off the mark of getting our results. Been on the forum for a while and thought I would add this side-thought!

Mine was green too. I don't think it means anything. or could it? lol we are reading into this way too much hahaha overanalyzing everything. This is so totally normal tho :P
let's REALLY hope that doesn't happen. I read in previous year's forum that people had to wait well into May to find out about their results and I think that's just CRUEL. We're already waiting for MONTHS! We shouldn't have to wait any longer. Let's all be positive and hope we will ALL hear about our results by April 30, by 11:59 or latest May 1st. Fingers crossed for good news.
OMG, I do this too! Your sister is probably right. It's not like we could do anything about it at this point. Sometimes I feel good about it after I read it but often I find things that could be better in it, I guess it depends on my mood.
But honestly there is so many ways that the proposal could be different/better/whatever and at the end of the day, I feel like there is an element of luck involved in that it heavily depends on firstly who are the people who read your proposal and how they feel about it and secondly how you compare to the rest of the applicants in that subject. So we can never know until the results are out. I know of people who've won CGS & Vanier (which is the most competitive of them all) but were rejected from FRQSC (which is a Quebec based scholarship) and is supposed to be much less competitive than CGS and Vanier since those are federal AND applicants have to go through multiple rounds before they will be considered. There really isn't a logic....
Ugh...I just want this month to be over already. I want to wake up and the date to be April 30th. Fairy god mother, can you hear me?

thejorts reacted to Dannigart in OGS Results 2021-2022
Hi there! I believe that OGS results are provided through the school that you applied to. There may be an awards website for the school you applied to or just message the graduate studies office and they can give you more information. I know you said they aren't responding but maybe give them a call? At my school it is quite informal and they simply send you an email once they have the results! I do not know how this works for international students though.
Hope this helps!

FYI, it had the subject line "SSHRC Doctoral Awards Results" and was from "Z-Scholarships". It went to my "promotions" folder in Gmail for some reason.

I just received the email confirming what the tweet said - end of April, via extranet. Just receiving the email so unexpectedly almost gave me a heart attack though. I have been able to put this out of my mind for six months, but no the anxious time starts...

Better luck this year!
Speaking of fingers being crossed, I'm doing it. I'm getting friends, family to do it too. I'm grabbing strangers off the street and crossing their fingers. Got a good feeling about this group right here.

I'm an international student so I'm only eligible for SSHRC (fellowship not CGS-D) and Trudeau (which I haven't applied to yet). Wishing you all the best with OGS and SSHRC! I was waitlisted for OGS during my Master's and got it after a few months so you never know!
