  1. fun fact: chloroform has a (slightly) sweet taste.
  2. Tufts University has an open house on March 10. So I guess that's March 10-11.
  3. I was admitted into a couple and I am soo stressed out! What if they discover that I'm just a stupid wannabe? D:
  4. just say yes and withdraw later if you want to attend other programs.
  5. If I weren't doing what I'm doing, I'd be studying medicine. It's just that I can't stand seeing blood. and dead people.
  6. I was in an "I just don't care anymore, F*** this s***" mode yesterday, then I received another acceptance, which kind of put me back into obsession-mode again.
  7. My plan B is to train to be a spy. (I did not just say that)
  8. Hah. I don't want to jinx it. But surprisingly, last year, I got into programs which I'm sure won't accept me and got waitlisted to two other programs which I'm sure I have a chance of being accepted. (What happened after that is a different story)
  9. I'm like in pre-gradschool limbo.

  10. HAH. I'm in a place where mail arrives from the US after *at least* a month. One school I'm applying to (U Chicago) only sends admission decision via post. Frustrating. Well, unless they send it via FedEx which takes at least a week (but I highly doubt it). Aaand there's always email! Except on weekends.
  11. when did you submit your application? I'm assuming international students would get their decisions much much later. Is U Chicago the only one who gives out admission decisions via post? Even if they make the decision about my admission today, it would still take at least a month for the mail to get here. freakingg out!
  12. Hey! good luck to the both of us. They told me that we should hear something by mid-January to early Feb.
  13. I now hate weekends because the probability of schools sending out acceptances goes lower.

I've found a higher chance of POIs getting back to me on Sunday than any other day. I found out about my waitlist last year on a Saturday. So who knows!

  14. I know money isn't the only basis for choosing a grad school, but I'm just curious to know how much is the *annual* TA stipend schools are offering this year. For example, from the results section, I found out the ff: U Florida - 22k USCalifornia - 25k USCarolina - 23k U Chicago - 28k UNC - Chapel Hill - 26k Princeton - 29k Miami U - 22k UIUC - 23k U Tennessee - 23k Anyone else who want to add?
  15. it looks like you have a very good chance of being admitted, just don't treat it as a "sure thing". anything can happen between your conversation with that prof and the release of acceptances.
  16. Ok, someone (international student?) was admitted to UChicago chem. *panic ensues*
  17. yep, what everybody said. Those people were admitted without a GRE subject score because it was just "recommended" or "not required". side note: In my case though, I've only applied mostly to schools that require the GRE subject test because I thought that not using that $160 test in my application is a bit wasteful. risky, I know.
  18. left the computer for a day. expectation: 3 new messages, from schools informing me of my acceptance. reality: 0 new messages. FML

Whenever I'm not on email for more than 2 hours I expect a full inbox. Waiting makes you insane.

  19. Awesome news! about U Chicago, I e-mailed Melinda Moore and she said that decisions will be announced no later than mid-February. I hope I'll also get in. argh. the wait is killing me.
  20. I contacted ALL the schools I applied to and they replied within 24 hrs.
  21. This one's even better: http://www.peteranswers.com/ I spent the whole afternoon asking about my life decisions.
  22. Isn't there a law/policy about that? Or does that depend on the school? I got this from a grad handbook from JHU: "The university admits students of any race, color, gender, religion, age, national or ethnic origin, disability, marital or veteran status to all of the rights, privileges, programs, benefits and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the university. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, disability, marital or veteran status in any program or activity, including the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other university administered programs or in employment..."
  23. His/her GPA and GRE scores are already in his post. Just hover on the red dot.
