  1. Ah, yes, "Psych" reference! The waiting process also "makes me want to weep and then die!!"
  2. For "funny," read "horrifying."
  3. Yeesh, apparently!
  4. Hard to believe people would do something so rude...but you're right. Trying to keep things in perspective, but it's hard not to keep checking the results pages!
  5. Another Northwestern admit - congratulations, whoever you are!
  6. Congrats, annieca! Here's hoping the funding package will be everything you want!
  7. Abso-bloody-lutely. I wish my parents, friends, and professors would realize that their unflagging confidence in me is NOT making me feel better. If anything, it's adding to the pressure. I feel ya...I swear I'll go crazy if I don't hear something by the end of the week. Well, crazy-er!
  8. Happy birthday, kyjin! Wishing you many acceptances today (and in the coming weeks)!
  9. I'm not complaining, either! Desperately hoping that decisions really will be accelerated this season - I'd love to hear something this week...instead of 2-3 weeks from now! Ha ha! Reading more would be an excellent distraction from all the "Waiting it Out" forum threads...as supportive as everyone is there, it feeds my nervous, anxious obsession! Good luck to you, as well, annieca!
  10. I think my reaction would be a combination of both of yours...initially, the most excited person in the whole, entire world! Then supremely relaxed/relieved at having gotten an admittance, and (finally) able to focus on writing my dang thesis. Word. If I could just know that I'll be going somewhere (anywhere!) this fall, I would feel so much better. The time difference must be terrible! Best of luck with South Carolina and all your other apps!
  11. Please, please, please don't let this be another week without admissions news!

  12. Thanks for keeping things in perspective, Safferz! I'll try to remain calm over the next 3 weeks. That's proving much easier said than done, however...especially when the answers are slowly beginning to trickle in for other folks! Congrats to everyone accepted so far, and best of luck to all of us still waiting on decisions!
  13. Congratulations! Here's hoping the good news keeps on coming!
  14. So true. I love how supportive the people are here...but this website has become a terrible addiction in recent weeks!
  15. Here's hoping! I think it happens fairly frequently that the various fields (Americanists, Europeanists, etc.) will split up their applications and make decisions somewhat indepedently. It would be great if their European and Asian/World History committees would get back to us this week!
  16. Exactly. Hopefully, it's just been Americanists so far...trying to keep my hopes alive!
  17. Thanks, kyjin! We'll have to hang tough together! Did you see that said school had another admit posted tonight? Hope it was yours!
  18. Me too... A big, seriously ENORMOUS congratulations to the two that have gotten in! While I'm now beginning to despair of my chances of getting in, I'm so happy for you - such a great program! I know the first admit was for American History, but what is the second admitted person studying? Please reveal yourself! (Pretty please? In a PM? I'll keep your secrets, I swear!)
  19. Absolutely true. I saw the first acceptance from one of my programs posted in the results on TGC last night...so now I'm obsessively refreshing my email inbox and glaring at my phone, willing it to ring with an offer of admission. It's such a reach school, though, that I'll probably be rejected from it. It would be kinder of them to put their "no" decisions out of their misery before sending out the happy news to their admits!
  20. Ha ha! Same here...I can barely work up the will to read for class or work on my thesis. Once I get just one acceptance, I'll feel so relieved and happy, I'm sure the rest of the semester will be no problem! Thanks for the prayer - I will say one, as well. This has really turned out to be the most nerve-wracking part of the process. Hope everyone is hanging in there, absolutely killing it on their interviews, and hearing nothing but good news!
  21. I have a feeling this is what I'll be doing when/if I get admissions offers. Rejections might be posted a bit sooner - less information to wait on...though more crying to do... What's everyone's take on filling out your stats, the "red diamond" information? I'm planning to post mine, but I noticed lots of people haven't been doing so.
  22. Congrats to the UCI, OSU, and Duke admits! Ahhhhh! Exciting and nerve-wracking all at once! Looks like it! Here's hoping we all hear back soon... Congrats on York - how exciting! Such a beautiful city and a great university.
  23. Congrats to the UC Irvine acceptees! So glad some of us are finally starting to receive answers! Welcome, akacentimetre! Good luck waiting out the next couple of weeks...and best of luck with Princeton! I believe NewEnglandNat attends that program - you may want to PM her.
  24. Heh - that was the only workable strategy I could figure out, as well. My MA program (University of Houston) is one of the most diverse schools in the country, so I mainly talked about working with people from a variety of non-traditional backgrounds, etc. Any attempt to talk about my own "barriers" would have been completely contrived (and false!).
  25. Five essays?! That's insanity...maybe some crazy method they have for weeding out applicants that don't absolutely want to get into the program? And seriously, I feel you on the diversity statement. Had to do one for Berkeley and was just like, "er, I'm a white, upper-middle-class girl. Never had any obstacles put in the way of my personal/educational/professional goals...but I realize other people do!" *derp* Felt like such an idiot writing it, since I really didn't have much to say. But maybe the diversity statement will mostly be used for funding information and not for admissions? *hopes and prays*
